Hi everyone,

I am type A, aprox 40%Teacher, 40% Explorer and have 8 whorls on my fingertips.

Just read that the American Journal of Medical Genetics reported a study that found, “The positive predictive value of 6 or more digital whorls was comparable to that of mammography and that of breast biopsy".

Should I panic right now? What should I do?

Isa don't panic at all- be aware about the words*might be* etc...B U T ... it mustn't.... it also depends from your genetic makeup and the correspondence of epigenetic values ;)

How do I prevent it from becoming reality?
I've been on BTD for the past almost 3 years. And I've been trying to pass to swami for the past few months...

Not so good on the exercise part of it. To be honest very bad, I just don't exercise, except for running after the children... but my weight is ok. Nevertheless I know I should exercise, just keep finding excuses for not doing it... Too tired, too busy, tomorrow will be better...

Should I also take supplements? In particular the protocol for cancer prevention?

Change your genetic destiny-- and follow the SWAMI.

It will take care of things for you. Eat loads of veggies keep those volume controls silent.

I remember when my children were young and I needed to change them, believe me that is a lot of exercise.  I could tell the difference later when I no longer needed to do that.  Back then I would just try to incorporate in to my daily life what I could, going up and down stairs is great exercise. Parking further away from a shop so you have to walk, little things all count up.

And I agree with what the others have said, don't panic.  You have already done great in the past few years.  Being an A blood type like you, I know  how easy it is to get thrown by articles like what you read.  But before you know it another article will be out saying something very different.  
The main thing to focus on is how you take care of yourself.
You'll be fine.

ya know...it's all about fragmental thoughts ;).... :X

there are so many different approaches which leads to different results... but then... there are lots of those who are able to dismantle us... but there are rare
systems like BTD who's able to correct and compose us as it should be ;) ;D....(scared)(funny)(dizzy)(grin)(smarty)(whistle)

I am a 54%Teacher with 7 whorls and concern with breast cancer risk also.

I am trying get the nutrient from food rathan supplement but considering taking helix plus, methylcobalamin and L-histidine.

I appreciate any feed back.

If I may step in for a moment -- I don't have the whorls but do want to comment on the exercise. I use an App for it and keeping track of my foods -- its the next best thing to have if you don't have a live person to help motivate you; as long as you are willing to log in with brutal honesty each day, you WILL SEE RESULTS.....and.....come to see what works for you and what doesn't....choose an app like LOSE IT! which really takes into consideration actions like housecleaning, walking at a slow pace, raking the yard....all those little things we've been conditioned to think aren't "intense enough" in today's society ..... you will wake up with a smile on your face, continued curiosity and happiness over what each day will be like for you!

Finding out you have 8 whorls is little different from me finding out that I'm a non-secretor.

OK, so you have this genetic tendency towards disease; it just means that you need to make extra-sure you do the right things so you stay healthy. You "can't afford to" eat junk food and ignore your health the way many people today seem to do.

You are not both a Teacher and Explorer. With those whorls I'd certainly assume Teacher; especially if you don't like hard exercise. However SWAMIX would be better than I.

I recently realised that my vit D is quite low - about 20. What does it have to do with cancer risk?

In recent years there has been lots of info about getting enough vitamin D to prevent cancer. You get more D if you are in the noonday sun.  One dr. says that when your shadow is shorter than you are, you are getting vitamin D. Where I live, there are 4 months without it, according to this.

The 'darker' your nationality, the more sun you need. If you are Swedish & live in New York, you may need little sunlight. But if you are Mediterranean (like me) & live in Illinois(like me), you have to make a big effort to get than sunlight & take enough vitamin D3. I figured I need 5-10,000 units a day. In the summer, I try to get sunlight along with the supplement. I may take a little less in the summer & more in the winter. I'm still working this out. I'm older than most of you & may need more. If you are young, you can turn this around with diet & supplements.
At the end of 2008, when I had done a good amount of sunbathing the past summer, I tested myself by mail & my reading was only 25! In Chicago, it is usually too cold to sunbathe before May or June, so there were a lot more months to go to get my D.  Obviously, I wasn't absorbing or retaining it the 2,000 units a day I was taking then which seemed like a lot, but not for me!

Best wishes in your diet. You can do it!

PS  What the AMA may recommend as a good level is too low. Especially with a tendency for cancer, closer to 100 may be better, or at least 70.

Probably the Teacher diet, if one is a Teacher (most cancer prone).

There is another thread on here with magnesium deficiency you will want to read. Popping Vitamin D without concern about magnesium can pull your magnesium level down. D needs magnesium to be utilized. Most in US are deficient in both.

It's not all about what you came into the world with, it's what you do with it.  ;)
