Hi all, it's been a while since I posted here but I am very active in the Facebook pages related to BTD :)
My son had an igG blood test for intolerances and the results we interesting ..he is severely intolerant to cows milk, oats and eggs...next most severe is gluten , wheat and some veg... However he  has not reacted to potatoes salmon lamb and a few other items ... He's a type O and I was surprised potatoes are ok .... Has anyone done an igG test before and found it useful? I doubt we can stick to the results as rice came out moderately intolerant yet he lives on rice becaue of his eosiniphilliac esophegitis and autism.

I had IgG testing and I am a very atypical O.  But I am also what would be considered a minor blood group because I have a rare blood antigen, so it is logical that I am not the typical O.  I did not react to any of the typical O avoids and actually reacted to some of the typical O super foods such as sardines and curry.  All in all, my food intolerance list was extremely small.

Our daughter had it as well and she is an O.  She is intolerant to wheat and coffee.  She does well when she follows these restrictions.  Now if she eats wheat unknowingly (such at restaurant food that is supposed to be gluten free or eating at someone else's house) the negative effects are much more intense.

Our daughter also has the rare blood antigen but she is a secretor and I am not.  Go figure  ??)

I found my IGg results useful and am rotating low reacting foods. The test may not yield the same results as BTD generally because BTD is not based specifically on IGg reactions. As people work through BTD and include variety, it is my understanding that these results change.

However, if you are having IGg results that are affecting you even if they are allowed on your plan (especially strong reactions) probably better to leave them out and/or rotate them. It depends...

Listening to the body is a good thing.

I just met a doc today who understands a lot about genetics and biochem and physiology (a gem!). He said from my SNP's and symptoms all of my low level reactions to a lot of the sulfur rich herbs were most likely due to a methylation issue. He whipped out a pathway drawing and showed me how we are going to fix it.  PRAISE THE LORD!

There is info in a book I read that gluten free diets that rely on rice often develop the same issue with it. http://www.amazon.com/Allergy-Cookbook-Gluten-free-Casein-free-Nut-free/dp/0979754208/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1350093129&sr=8-3&keywords=gluten+free+allergy+girl This is a good book just for some of the explanation and research she did (about 100+ pages of that). I would ignore the recipes, they use things that are definite avoids. 4 day rotation plans are often included with IGg results. I found relief with that concept.

Rebuilding the gut is the key to many issues. Poke around on the forum.

I agree with AKArtlover. I had the test, did the 3 month "washout" and began to rotate my foods on the 4 day plan. That was 2 years ago and I am still practicing it to a somewhat lesser degree. I totally believe in variety and rotation.....and I am one that tends to get comfy in a rut with the same foods! ;)

every system has its own results ;) ;D...thatswhy I trust almost bioresonance  ;D(smarty)(ok) here true prevention is possible and doable looooong time before something will popp up in any blood tests !!!!

Very well said, AKArtlover  :)  I didn't have any reactions to food and I still was following a very restrictive diet.  Once I got my IgG results, one of the superfoods I started eating on a regular basis (sardines 3 - 4 times a week) was one of the few foods to which I reacted.   Neither wheat nor dairy were reactive for me.  I still eat wheat only occasionally but I have incorporated more dairy (yogurt), mostly due to the fact that I need to boost the beneficial bacteria in my gut.

Humm.. that's very interesting about rotating the foods one has intolerance to.

butter, asparagus, eggs and bananas... all superfoods for me.  at one point i was eating them almost daily and i had a intolerance to all of these including some I don't eat on a regular basis.  when i stopped eating these foods back then, my tummy improved.  

but then i added them back in causiously.. and they haven't bothered until now.  humm... food for thought on all this.

however i did not have a reaction to wheat or gluten which are of course avoids.

I had mine done at a natural health care practitioner.  If you can find a naturopath, they usually have it available.  Not sure about an MD providing it or a mainstream nutritionist, but it might be worth a shot.

Remember that this test is just checking for allergens, not lectin response or other factors that Dr D studies. He's not allergic to potatoes, but potatoes are still a bad idea for an O to eat.

If he's reacting moderately to rice, it could be because he's been over-eating it. I know that some people with autism are very picky eaters and thrive on routine; often literally not eating if they're not happy with the taste or texture of the food being offered. I don't know if your son is like that or not. Is it at all practical to introduce quinoa or millet or some other grains? He'd benefit from eating less rice, even if he never stops eating it altogether.

I actually do the food intolerance testing as part of  natural nutrition consultations...I don´t live in the U.S. but in Ireland! I find it useful in determining foods to avoid or limit, or eliminate for a certain period of time...it is not entirely 100% though...but it is a good guideline I find.

Often it confirms the findings of BTD ..with O´s usually reacting to grains and dairy, even though it is the IgG antibodies being measured and not lectins as per Dr D...which is interesting!

Food intolerance tests, measuring levels  of IgG,are not allergy tests...there is a difference! Food intolerances can be a result of "over-exposure"... many people eat the same foods every day ...or as a result of a damaged gut due to use of medications or years of eating the wrong foods. So healing the gut as some of you suggested, is vitally important...but even then if a Blood type O shows reaction to wheat there would be no point in eating it again even when the gut has healed and undoing all the good!

Occasionally an O does not react to wheat or gluten or potatoes in the test but it is usually because they have been avoiding these foods...only when foods are in the system will they show up in the test.

If potatoes don´t show a reaction but I suspect there is gut damage,like in the case of BTypeAus´s son with autism, then I would usually suggest they avoid it ...
