Watermelon Seeds came up as a diamond on my SWAMI so I researched them and found a ground version on Amazon with instructions on how to make it into tea.

I bought some and is it really good!  Slightly creamy, slightly sweet, and plays will with others (mixes well into other teas or smoothies).

I've been drinking it every day, 2-3 cups full.

The instructions I received told me to steep for 30 minutes, cool to room temp, and then strain.  This meant I had to wait quite a while for breakfast in the morning so I did some additional research and found several websites describing how to use the tea to cure kidney problems and recommending two days on one day off.

I don't have kidney problems, that I know of.

Should I be drinking this tea???

If I should, how should I prepare it?  One website recommended using only fresh seeds; another recommended the white seeds (the ones I have are white, dried).  One said steep for 15 minutes, another said steep until cool.  

I would really like to steep this and then drink it warm but found nothing on the health benefits/problems associated with doing so.  Must I use fresh seeds or are the dried ones OK?

The tea is delicious but I'm not willing to risk my kidney health for it.

I simply dump my watermelon with seeds when preparing my smoothie

gritty consistency doesn t bother me one bit

I can't get fresh watermelon year-round.  Are the dried seeds an acceptable alternative?

Should I be drinking this tea at all, given that I don't have kidney problems?

I would think they would be fine dried. Most seeds we eat are dried.

If the seeds are a diamond I would tend to think the tea would be okay. You don't have to have a specific problem to eat a specific food.

If it's a diamond for you, then it's fine for you to drink- but I'm not sure if you'd do better having one cup a day rather than 2-3 cups per day.

If you want it for breakfast, you could brew it overnight and then strain in the morning. If you like drinking it hot, you could brew it extra-strong and then dilute it with hot water before drinking.
