I'm new to Swami, before I tested as a Gatherer and black tea was a beneficial for me, now I am a Hunter and Black tea is an avoid for me, not even a black dot. I need more information on this. Is it the caffeine that is the problem in all black teas? (Because I know how to naturally de-caffeinate tea) Or is it the lectins in all Black teas that makes it an Avoid? I have so many different kinds of black teas that come from all over the world and are grown and made differently, so I am wondering about the lectins in black teas. Is there a difference in the lectins between the different kinds of black teas? I need more detailed information about Lectins.  :-/

Doesn't have to be either. Our bodies and food is much more complex than those two things.

It may be because black tea is fermented or oxidized more than green tea.  I'm not sure, in your specific incidence.

In ER4YT for Type O it says, "AVOID COFFEE AND BLACK TEA.  All forms of roasted coffee (decaffeinated or not) have been shown to increase gastrin production.  Black tea has been shown to increase stomach acid secretion."

Gastrin controls the amount of hydrochloric acid the stomach secretes which, in turn, activates the pepsin which digests protein.  If there is too much acid in the stomach, and Type Os already have enough to begin with, it can cause acid reflux and heartburn (and, presumably, ulcers).  At least, that's the way I understood it.

I suspect that the caffeine has nothing to do with it.

However, earlier in the book, it also states, "Caffeine can be particularly harmful because of its tendency to raise adrenaline and noradrenaline -- already high for type Os."

That's interesting, because I read in Victoria Boutenko's book: Green For Life, that most people are deficient in HCL and are not producing enough stomach acid, because if we are over 40 our bodies are no longer making enough. So she suggests that we take an HCL supplement with every meal, especially with a high protein meal. Once my family members started taking HCL supplements with each meal, their heart burn and acid reflux went away. These family members are mostly O types and some B types and all over 40. I've been on HCL supplements for a while and have had no stomach problems. Even though I am an O Hunter, I think the HCL supplements are helping me with my digestion. I eat a fairly high protein diet.

So, I assume if the black tea causes an increase in Gastrin production, that would be a good thing for those of us who are over 40 and deficient in HCL? What do you think?

I, too, have read that many people with heartburn and acid reflux are actually deficient in HCL and are helped by taking it in supplements.  

If it were me, I would stop the HCL supplements and see if coffee has the same effect.  Why take a drug if you can get the same results from food?
