I just got the CR4YT and it had only "White Vinegar" in there as an Avoid. When did they outlaw all vinegars? I got a load of Flavored vinegars that I now have to dump. It makes me feel bad, because after 25% Self-employment and Federal he only clears $5.50 an hour. Any chance the NEW SWAMI would have vinegars? Balsamic Vinegar is as close to wine as you can get. So why is Wine a Neutral but Balsamic Vinegar is an avoid? Whenever I have some balsamic vinegar, it seems to settle my stomach and helps me to digest foods better.

Maybe Doctor D has something about this quirk of mine to write? Just like I am getting a burning tongue and red tongue when I eat KIWI, a beneficial for AB's

I'm also preparing BTD foods on a strict budget. I didn't throw out any foods that I'd bought pre-BTD; I used them up and then replaced them with more compliant options. In many cases, I let my kids finish up stuff and cleaned up my own diet fairly quickly, but it sounds like it's just two of you in your household?

Personally, if I found that a supposed "avoid" food had a beneficial effect on my body, I'd keep using it.

I was about to ask about vinegar, too! I use lemon juice for making dressings and such, but it is quite difficult to find mustard without vinegar in it   :'( I like apple cider vinegar anyways and am wondering, can some bloodtypes/genotypes still have it? Or does vinegar under certain circumstances become neutral or a black dot??? Or is it a no for everybody?   ??)

I would really like to have at least one vinegar available to use... :-/

Blood type B can have vinegar, but my husband really doesn't care one way or the other if I use it in cooking. Type O secretors can have it, too.

Lola, this sounds rather scary, my mind went right to sickle cell anemia. Is it that serious? I ask only because it appears so many of us sneak a little into our diets from time to time. Should we be more vigilant?   :-/

Plum vinegar works for some teachers (It is neutral for those following the book), check your swami to see if it will work for you.

C_sharp, thanks. But could somebody please tell me what Sickles means and what it does? I am NOT anemic, I just had my lab work done. My doctor wants me to get off the Calcium he told me to take for osteopenia back in February. My Calcium count was too high. Should I cut back on dairy as well? Any suggestions would be highly appreciated

I always thought vinegar was an avoid for O's I see some are listed as neutral in the eat right book, all vinegars are a black dot for me by swami.

So maybe you would get some of your vinegars back if you swamied.  Didn't I read you were using the cancer book? That will be the diet to follow right now then. I'd do the best I could. What do you use your vinegars for?  I used mostly for salad dressings and just sub with lemon, or lime.

I have a lot of different sauce like Tikka and Curry sauces who have some Vinegar in them and I sprinkle it on veggies or the few salads I eat. I do not eat a lot of salads because I have an underactive thyroid and they are part of the Brassica family which interferes with my underactive thyroid.

I have an underactive thyroid and I eat quite a bit of salad. No one ever explained that to me. Also, my Swami says I can only have umebashi plum vinegar, but I don't know what that is or where to buy it. I can only have wheat/vinegar-free mustard. Here again, I don't know where to find any.

Deblynn3 - I just checked out the previous post you just mentioned. The problem is, though, that most of the foods on the list are either avoids on my Swami or my IgG food intolerance test. But I did see a few things I can eat. Thanks.

You can buy mustard powder to use in cooked foods or to make a mustard substitute using lemon juice, etc...
Put "mustard recipe" in a google search window and find a recipe that you want to use as a base and make it yours...

I am blessed to live in a Metropolitan area that has many oriental Supermarkets
So I can go about a mile down the road to the Hongkong Market and buy just about anything Oriental there. And they of course have Umeboshi.

ArwenLegolas - Thank you. Very enlightening articles. My mother also had underactive thyroid and had to take meds. Her mother's sister had a large goiter and died on the operating table when she was a young woman.

It took me a long time to give up foods with vinegar, even though I can taste it when it's added, but I get ume plum vinegar as a neutral on my swami, and I use that daily.

Seeing vinegar listed as an avoid is one of the biggest things I have struggled with, simply because I had always heard it was so good for you.
Ancient Roman soldiers (B.C.) would not leave on a military campaign without taking their vinegar flask with them.

Another German Speaker.I was born and raised im Harz Gebirge. Then to hannover fuer Haushalts Schule/ Home Economics, Nursing and COoking, and then to where my mother had moved to while I was in school, Zeven near Bremervoerde and Bremen.
