I struggle with eating or skipping breakfast and sometimes feel better with more energy by not eating.
But I cannot dismiss the years of hearing "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day".
Dr. Julian Whitaker advocates a Minifast: No breakfast with exercise which is supposed to burn fat because you have not eaten.
Looking for others experience which I hope will motivate me.....I really need to lose 15-20 lbs.

I used to be that person who didn't eat breakfast, but I can tell you from my experience that it did nothing to help me lose weight. The best thing I can do for my body is to eat breakfast, though it is light, with some form of protein. I either eat a couple of eggs, or some yogurt with chia seeds, or oats with rice protein powder. If I don't have protein in the morning, I don't have enough energy to last until lunch. When I was skipping breakfast (and sometimes skipping lunch), I would binge on dinner, then the cycle would continue the next day because I wasn't hungry in the morning.

I'm happy to say that I've eaten breakfast every day since April, and my weight is slowly creeping down...if I am compliantly eating the foods on my SWAMI.

I'm a Warrior and I NEVER skip breakfast. Since you are trying to lose weight you really don't want to skip breakfast, or any other meal for that matter. The Warrior is a "thrifty" genotype and though we may not all be overweight (I'm not), the metabolism will inevitably slow down when you go long periods of time without eating. Your body will think it's "starving" if you're not frequently eating or drinking caloric beverages during the day. You don't need to consume much, just something small and compliant.

Yes been there with coffee and biscuit before college ::)

Now eat breakfast even if a bit late and amlosing weight at last.... almost cut out gluten, say almost as I was tempted by some barley malt extract last night!

Off to eat an egg in a mo :)

I eat breakfast everyday tofu and vegetables scrambled together.

Think about how many hours you go without fuel for your body-- maybe you eat a 9pm the latest ( most people don't eat that late). Then you sleep 8 hours in which you are fasting-- then you wait till noon to eat for some people it is later . That is over 12 hours-- :-/ I don't think many people think about sleeping as a fasting state but it is.

That is a long time for your body to be without fuel. How can you think clearly. I do suspect your insulin receptors go nuts at some point.

Definitely not anything heavy for breakfast.

That used to be me, eating nothing until after morning exercise. Breakfast used to be lunch. And rather large. The idea being that it would need to hold me until dinnertime. A bad habit for me at least.

Since swami, and losing a lot of weight, that no longer seems possible-- there is little energy in storage in the AM. It may be a glucose issue, but the advice to "eat smaller, more frequent meals" really works for me. Granted, my idea of breakfast has always been several hours after rising.

Awake between 5-6 AM, Lemon water cleansing. Yoga.

7-8 AM, a little bit of cereal, light exercise.
9-10 AM, rice cake w/vegemite, almond butter, oat bran. A slice of dried papaya, Ultimate Meal (greens, spirulina, etc.) w/nutritional yeast in pineapple cranberry juice.
2-3 PM, sardines w/rice crackers & broccoli slaw. Maybe a hard boiled egg instead of the sardines.

Dinner is the FUN meal of the day. Always varied and interesting, to keep the doldrums in check.

This routine seems to keep my hunger at bay quite well, but any sugar-- even from fruit-- must be carefully monitored or the downward spiral begins. What I call "the hunger spins".

Very recognizable!

I suppose it is in the warrior genes to be easily tempted to overeat but then also be able to easily go without food for a long period of time.

I know for myself that I actually tend to get more hungry once I start eating, and I rarely have a hard time fasting for a while.

I agree with that 100%.  I'd be lousy yogi..  ;D  I never skip breakfast. I was brought up having my breakfast on the table every morning by my mom so I'm a breakfast eater. My sister however, another A and I suspect a Warrior too, refused to eat breakfast and wouldn't eat until lunch had a weight problem her whole life. In menopause she went up to 280 lbs at 5'8". She had a gastric bypass and is gaining the weight back because she can't exercise.

That could depend on what you start eating... If you eat protein first..you shouldn't trigger more hunger. If you have carbs, you'll be hungry the whole day.   That's why I always have protein in the morning. Eggs, or tofu.

Are you suggesting to have only protein for breakfast? (plus some vegetables?)
Or: start your breakfast with protein, then have some carbs/fat.

Start with protein, add you know oatmeal and or toast, juice, coffee/tea, fruit.. :)

Wow, thanks to all of you for your input....I think deep down I knew not eating breakfast wasn't for me.
I am vowing today to get back on track with Warrior and Swami foods....not just avoiding the "Avoids", but fueling my body with my Superfoods.
I re-read the Warrior section of my book and zeroed in on the problem most Warriors have with wheat (which I have been having way too much).

Glad to help.  :) I have problem with wheat myself now. Dr. D years ago said that wheat tended to make A's gain weight.  Today I haven't had any grains.. My stomach is thanking me.

This A Warrior has always eaten breakfast-- I wake up hungry. If I skip a meal it us usually lunch, or I eat a late lunch.

My mom always got up early to make sure we ate before we went out the door to school.

I do not have a weight problem and I eat tons of food-- my co workers get freaked out by the size of my lunch, mind you most is vegetables. They often have a discussion about how much food I eat, while I am in the room. ::) :)

I wake up starving, I have to have breakfast or I actually feel sick then get desparate and reach for anything.
I usually start the day by sipping freshly squeezed grapefruit, lemon and lime (pulp stirred back in) with water & trehalose first while preparing my food which at the moment is organic oat toast with avocardo, squeeze of lemon and herbamare or peanut butter, vegemite or a poached egg on toast. Delicious diamonds (except avo is a neutral) I go to bed thinking what i will have in the morning, maybe because i usually only have salad with fish or veggies& tofu for dinner at 6pm then nothing else :P   I also have never had a weight problem but I know I have to walk and exercise everyday or I may do.....

I ate a jaw-dropping amount of food up until my 40's. Always trying to gain weight as a young man (6'  140 lbs). More reasonable now since BTD/GT.

Since vegetables were alway more of a side dish to me, I'm curious as to what kind of lunch you eat. Stir fry?
I've always wondered how I'd fare with eating a pile of raw fresh vegetable as a meal. Even a HUGE spring greens salad every night is merely a lead-up to the protein event. It just doesn't satisfy me in and of itself.

Any advice, thoughts? My weight continues to go down (under 200 this morning- yes!), but to get to my goal of 180, I know I'll need to start eating less than I am now. I really have trouble with feeling hungry, which is why I'm constantly singing the praises of this diet to anyone who'll listen. No starvation!!!
