In my Original ER4YT Fenugreek was an Avoid. Now I can't even find it in the Database. Can anybody tell me what happened to it and if it still an avoid? I can't find in LR4YT as well.

Really need to know because I am thinking about ordering a preventative for the coming Flu and Cold Season and it has Fenugreek in it.

Fenugreek is listed in Swami reports ... It is a Black dot in mine.

It is also listed in the Cardiovascular Health protocol for Blood type B

I think it is also listed in the Genotype and ER4YT books

There are a few archived discussions in these forums about Fenugreek ...

Also, check the immune support protocol for your type to see what better alternatives to Fenugreek are available for you ...

I remember it was in the original ER4YT as an Avoid, but now I cannot find it in the up to date database. I want to know if it has changed its status.

Pecans used to an AVOID for AB now it is a NEUTRAL.
I just need to know because flu and allergy season gets here soon and I need to do some preventive maintenance

I just checked my copy of Live Right, and fenugreek isn't listed in either the spice or vegetable sections.

I would take that to mean it's "untested and therefor neutral- but watch your body for signs of intolerance."

In the Encyclopedia it is recommended for B's for cardiovascular, Liver support, Metabolic enhancement, and Immune enhancement.

I am researching as wondering re fenugreek? I got given some dried leaves, which for an Explorer is a black dot, but thought I'd try them as they are supposed to be great for weight loss as well as other things?!

First of all (to me) they are incredibly strong smelling & stunk out my car, then my pantry...& along the way - my breath & underarms as well ::) I don't usually have offensive underarm odour at all, even when I work hard & don't even wake up with morning breath normally, but this made my BO strong as & my breath stink all night (woke my husband up :o)!! ::)  (Now I have relegated the bags of herbs to our double garage - preparing to get rid of them - & they have even permeated that space!!)

Believe it or not I actually enjoyed the taste & ate them for several days with braised meats instead of salads etc... Just looking for feedback on whether they are doing their job of detoxing & I should persevere or ditch them??!!

The "fenugreek" referred to in most recipes and in supplement-related literature, is the seed. The above post from Possum is asking about the leaves (in India these are called "methi") and are generally not what is meant in the Western health literature. The extracts and caps you see at the health food store are most likely from the seed (e.g., to promote lactation or balance blood glucose).

Yeah san j - the leaves I presumed are what is listed in the live foods section (& are a black dot for Explorers)

There are two possibilities...  First is that it is causing grief (smell and BO) because it is toxic in some manner by you.  In this case, it shouldn't be used.  According to the following, it is not generally toxic, so that is good.
Do you cook with fenugreek?

Both the seeds and the leaves (fresh or dried) of the fenugreek plant are edible. The seeds are small, hard, and have a shrunken rectangular shape similar to dried beans or corn kernels. The leaves are flat and spear-shaped, and radiate out from a central stem. While both smell like caramel or maple syrup when heated, their taste is rather bitter, like burnt sugar.


Second, is that it is just a strong smell that permeates everything, including your sweat glands, but is not really beneficial in any manner.  In this case, I would either not use it at all or just reduce the amount to where it isn't as obvious.

Third, is that while the smell is strong, ingesting it is providing a beneficial detox flush to help the body rid itself of some other junk.  I don't know how to tell you to tell if this is really the case.

I'm an O, so can't help that uch.  I have sprouted fenegreek seeds, very easy, but taste very strong so just need to eat a few at a time.  The odour comes through my pores for about two or three days after I've eaten them. The powder is in my own spice blend which I use from time to time for cooking vegetables. I will still use it, as helpful for people low in enzymes and good for keep toxins low.  I also use basil more often now too, love basil - will make a pesto tomorrow with almonds and water cress, instead of walnuts as walnuts a bit heating for our present warm weather here and I am re-balancing my system after severe vata and pitta imbalnces (Ayurvedic terms)!

ABJoe nothing could describe this smell like maple at all ::) That I wouldn't mind smelling like... ;)

Since it's a black dot for you (not a beneficial or diamond) and they produce an unhealthy odor in you, I'd assume that these are not  good for you personally.

I also have to wonder if these strongly smelling leaves you have are even properly labeled, or if they might be spoiled. They're supposed to have a maple syrup kind of smell. They're often used to increase lactation, and there was lots of talk about it on the breastfeeding boards I used to frequent- I have no personal experience with it, though, as I suffered from over production and easily clogged ducts, so I stayed as far away from galactalogues as possible!
