BTD Forums  /  Eat Right 4 Your Type  /  My Daughter Noticed...

My 11 year old daughter recently returned from a long stay at her grandma's.  When she got back she told me she was relieved to be getting back home to gluten-free, nutritious food because eating at her grandparent's house made her feel really bad.  I think its cool that she noticed, and its encouragement for me that I'm doing a good thing by my family to be feeding them more healthy food!   ;D

WOW....for an 11 year old to notice feeling better on a gluten free diet...that says a lot!  :)  Good
job making such healthy food choices for your family! :)

That's great!

Grandmas are wonderful, but they can make things challenging when it comes to staying on target with eating.

I wish I had been your daughters age when I was suffering --eating food supposedly good for me.. I was 32 when I found out what it was..

"Grandmas are wonderful but "some" can make things challenging..."?? Speaking for this Grandmother, if I had control over what my grandaughter ate she'd be way healthier in my care...::)

Wonderful!

There's something to be said for kids (or adults, for that matter) learning for themselves how food makes them feel. They can read all the nutrition information they want, but until you can really feel the effects in your own body, it never quite sinks in the same way.

I remember my middle child's observations after a few months on the Feingold diet (avoiding artificial colors and additives to help control ADD.) She was 8 or 9 at the time, and noticed "people are nicer to me when I follow the diet." She could see the difference diet made, but wasn't quite ready to see how it influenced her own behavior (people were "nicer to her" because she wasn't acting out and provoking everybody!)

Then again, 11 is a lot more mature than 9, and it's easier to notice your own physical reactions than behavioral ones.

I hope it is that easy if I ever have a kid.
