Does anyone know if any atheletes are following BTD or SWAMI ? I know a few are following a vegan diet. Just curious if anyone knows since the olympic fever is all around us.  :)

Being a vegan warrior among  us Os at least takes the warrior out of the equation, we at least understand the reasons and advantages for you!.  I wonder how many would have the same kind of HEALTH building understanding and advantage in sports where one does not work for longevity, but rather for the short haul win.  

I would love the see a real competition among those who do BTD or not.. Then again how much can those people eat?  eat food and what we would consider junk for their blood types..  

How disconcerting that Coka Cola is shown to be used by one athlete while in training.. sort of stings..

Yet the opening was fab.. the retelling of 100 years of progress was done fab.. The heli ride.. ohh just so much fun..  well done Britts.. and her Royal Highness.  What a triumph for Nations going through austerity, politically.  

Well done and good luck to all... .. as for the Swiss bikerider who saved all the riders behind him by going into the wall instead of sliding out on-to the path of all the others.. to bad..   tomorrow is another day.. loved the win by the retiring rider.. nice!

There are quite a few athletes who follow the BTD, just can't remember their names right now.  I know a handful of winter athletes who follow the diet.  There was a thread on it in 2010 (winter Olympics).

It seems that a lot are on a drugs regime that is hardly healthy.

Most of the Olympic athletes I know are clean.  The silver medalist at 2010 winter olympics for snowboard cross coaches my kids.  He eats extremely healthy and doesn't dope.  The athletes who train at the same center as my kids are clean as far as I can tell.  They are the healthiest looking people I have ever seen.  Now, some of the athletes I know from the 70's and 80's are different than the kids today.  

If you finish in the top 3 of any event, you are urine tested immediately, most of the athletes are cautious about taking over the counter products.  My kids have been randomly urine tested at events.

There are athletes who dope, but I think that is a minority of super elite.

I hate to say it, but most of the athletically talented people I know eat like c**p & just have great genes.  We are talking younger kids though, and we seem to be less resilient as we get older...

well I have seen quite a few athlets lately fall face down ......gone forever..... :'(

Completely agree. And great brains. Rafael Nadal; tennis, had an eating disorder in his early champ years. He stuffed himself with ice cream and bakery and still won Roland Garros and was among top 3 world wide. Interesting to note he suffers frequent injuries.

Armstrong, cycling, ate loads of pasta. And so does Michael Phelps, swimming.

I wonder where they would be if they ate "correctly"

Intersting that mostly O's made comments. I wonder what blood type or genotype most of the atheletes are ???  :)

I just read online about the diets of some of the athletes. Two of them stand out to me as typical/good blood type A diets; Susan Francia, a rower, and Gwen Jorgensen, a triathlete. Their food/meals were worthy of my swami! ;D

I think most athletes get terible advice from their nutritionists, peddling the mainstream one size fits all, whole grain, low fat dogma. I read the food diary of a British Olympic swimmer a while back-can't remember her name now, and it was wheat 3 times a day, cornflakes, sandwich and pasta dinner. That's not healthy for anyone, even if she was A blood type, and there was barely any fruit or veg in there.

I think when it comes to athletic performance nature or your genetic potential outweighs environmental factors like diet. Usain Bolt said in an interview his pre- race meal before his world record breaking time in Bejing, was chicken nuggets from macdonalds. :o But like someone else commented, who knows how much less injuries and bad performances athletes would be having, if they were eating optimally.
