I would like to hear from B types Nomads who eat coconut oil. I just have this mental block since I have being following BTD for so many years thinking coconut oil is not good for me. I understand the genotype/SWAMI is entirely different approach but I am still kind of "scared" to try coconut oil.
Please my fellow Bs- report your experience--good or bad. Thank you.

The research Dr. D. did for The Genotype diet showed that some of us have a prevalence to a sluggish liver and that the coconut oil assisted our liver function.  This is why the change in the CO rating for us.

I have found that it is really helpful for me to include a couple teaspoons of CO per week in my intake.

When I didn't know about the blood type/genotype diets, I used coconut oil religiously in our household. We would buy the big gallon size extra virgin coconut oil because I did almost all my frying/sauteing with it. That is, until I discovered it isn't particularly good for certain blood types/genotypes/secretors.

I have a 16 year old Nomad son who gets coconut oil as a diamond superfood. However, since I don't corporately cook with it anymore he doesn't get it as much as he used to. I believe, in the right individual, it has numerous health benefits. It is a medium-chain fatty acid which means it digests quickly and doesn't get stored as fat. It has excellent anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal properties which is mainly why we used it. I also understand it has a long shelf life (about 2 years) and does not get rancid quickly. But, as Dr. D often says, one size does not fit all. I think you, Monika, would seriously benefit from incorporating it into your diet. I wouldn't be at all reluctant to use it if I were a Nomad. However, always listen to your body in case it doesn't particularly agree with you.

Hi, Monika.

I actually ingested tons of coconut oil around this time last summer and "blogged" about it on threads in this forum. As a nomad, coconut oil is a superfood and was helpful in bringing more balance to my gut and helping to keep my candida issue under control.

I am in much better health and have less of a need for coconut oil's antibacterial properties but I keep it in my pantry and have some weekly. I rotate between coconut oil and ghee when I want a spread for my rice breads.

I eat a lot of it -it is superfood for me and I find it adds a lot to my health
However I do eat a lot of ghee and butter as well -since they are dimonds and I prefer them in most food.
I use Cocnut If I fry thing asian or sweet. I use it in smoothies or en nutballs( dry fruit and nuts)

Thanks for the replies. I just checked my SWAMI report again and coconut oil is only neutral for me. For some reason I thought it was beneficial. I will give it a try in small quanity to see how my body responds to it.

More is known about the effects of coconut oil now than was known when the BTD was created.  The GTD reflects that new information.  I use CO. "Too much" can be inflammatory for me, but it balances with the digestive system benefit.
