This weekend I had my younger brothers over to spend the night. They do not follow the BTD so there were many avoids eaten in my presence. Pork sausage, pancakes, cheese, potatoes, etc. I stayed away from it all. Until it was time to take them back and I treated them to dairy queen which they don't have at home. I caved and got the shrimp basket with fries and toast. I did take deflect with the meal. Then of course we had to have ice cream. Small hot fudge sundae for me. My stomach felt bad after. Now I have had diarrhea for the last 3 days. And today I have a sore throat. One of my brothers has been sick but I think its just been coughing and mucus mostly. I wonder what's caused my problems, ice cream or germs.

I have to wonder if the problem was the ice cream, the fries, or the toast- or some combination of the three.

At least your body is working hard at clearing out all those toxins- constipation worries me more than diarhea. I hope you feel better soon!

Dairy Queen is even beyond ice cream.  I would not call their frozen desserts ice cream, but rather an all artificial frozen concoction.  ;)

I wonder if a rare treat of real ice cream (milk, cream, sugar and fruit or cocoa) would have made you as sick.  I'm not promoting ice cream for you, just to be clear, but prepared "foods" like that are a different breed than the foods they are pretending to be.

Rachel D - About three years ago I got a mushroom-swiss burger from Dairy Queen. By evening I was really sick. I know it was from that because it was all I had eaten. Two big doses of Pepto Bismol helped a lot. Haven't done that again!

I don't have overt symptoms to ice cream other than constipation but I hear you- it's really not such a great food.  I have eaten some past few summers and regretted it yet it is such a hard food to avoid.   :-/

Ruthie, I wondered that as well, but my stomach started hurting right after the ice cream so I figured that was the cause.

Victoria, as soon as I got sick I thought "What kind of crazy mutant ice cream did they give me?!" Haha. I can't believe restaurants can give us such things.

My brother confirmed that he didn't have diarrhea. So it had to be the food. Just as I thought. That just goes to show how bad these foods really are when we don't have a built up tolerance to them

Well, you live and learn.  Did you eat least enjoy it while it was going down?  Hehhehehe.

I'm sorry that you had such a bad reaction.  I think that's about how I'd react if I ate Dairy Queen also.  I just don't eat at those kinds of places any longer.  I'd like to someday without it messing with me, but.....  But I'm not sure if that day will ever come.  hehehe

The breaded shrimp, toast, and fried taters in non dedicated fryer would have started the intestinal express train for me and then adding the lactose and milk protein from the ice cream on already attacked digestive system would have just greased the rails.  I used to get digestive system distress and strep throat often and noticed it was after eating milk products so I quit eating them....then a few years down the line I was getting the digestive system problem without eating milk and detective work made me question wheat products.  I finally found out I had celiac disease and quit eating all gluten.  Now I can have ice cream on occasion with no problems but I can't over do it or I get expunged digestion and a stuffy nose.  So gluten destroyed my villa and set me up for problems with milk and other foods.

The combination of cow's milk and sugar used to keep me in swollen tonsils all the time.   :(

Today I have a really bad throat. Its so sore and I can't hardly talk. Coughing a little bit. I've been drinking grapefruit juice thinking it would help but wondering if it made it worse. I'm tempted to go eat a bunch of garlic or try to make a concoction. Anyone have any remedies I can try? I really want some cough drops right now.

" Anyone have any remedies I can try?"

Gargling with warm salt water seems to help me.  Last fall we had swine flu in the house and I started feeling icky so I began eating garlic....I think I overdid it and really irritated my intestines and now I seem to be super sensitive to eating any garlic almost like I'm allergic to it now, but my flu symptoms did go away.  :)

Hot green tea seems to help soothe my throat and eating beef seems to strenghten my immune system.

This spring I've had the worst pollen allergies I can remember.  I made a soup with beef and lots of benneficial vegetables (broccoli, onions, carrots for me) and it was very, very soothing.

I hope you feel better soon.

I think the battered fried foods would have bothered me more than the ice cream.  I have ice cream occasionally but when I do I try and make it the Hagen Daaz 5 which only contains cream milk, natural flavors like chocolate or coffee (I know, it's an avoid), sugar and eggs I think.  Breyers also has an all natural type.  Avoid the low calorie or fat free because they are full or avoid gums and will really mess with your digestive tract.    It's a once in while treat and doesn't bother me too much.

It's not as bad as wheat for an O!!!

It's possible you picked up a virus from one of the cooks also.  Possibly.

Take a slice of fresh ginger and set it on your tongue for as long as you can stand it.  Not too much.  Just a little.  It will burn, taste good and it's anti-inflammatory.  It will drain your sinuses also.  I've gargled with salt water before also, like someone mentioned.  I would make sure you're getting a good amount of vitamin C from berries and fruits and possibly supplement.  Drink lots of water.  Water will drain away all sins eventually.  I think. Lemon water is really good too.  Warm.  Yeah, green tea will help the cells I think.  And your guts.  And if you do rice, I'd eat some rice.  It will slow things down I would imagine, if you're stools are still loose.  Blueberries also help bind, I think.  And fight infection.

That's what comes to mind right away for me.  Eldeberry syrup too.  To me it sounds like you're fighting a bug.  But I'm sure bad food can make you feel pretty lousy too.  It's been so long since I've had anything like that, I don't know what I'd feel like.

Thanks for that information!  I will try that next time I get congested.

I make lots of fresh-ginger tea, as strong as I can handle it, with a little honey to take a little of the edge off, and sip on it all day every day until I feel better.  I used to chant to my kids when they were sick, "Vitamin C and ginger tea!"  That has been my go-to remedy.  If I'm sick enough I also add echinacea (sp?) to the mix; I think there are cough drops with echinacea and 'legal' ingredients.  Hope you feel better soon!

Another thumbs up for ginger, this is good to know!  I tried echinacea once and it made me sneeze  :D found out it is a member of the same botanical family as ragweed which also makes me sneeze in the fall so it doesn't work for me along with chamomile which is another cousin or something.

Garlic mixed with honey and lemon juice will help the sore throat and the cough works great.

You know also I have recently read on a paleo blog that milk is *filtered cow's blood-, eh, not a big deal but added incentive for us Os to avoid.

I saw a great show on amazing discoveries that had a Dr. explaining why cows milk is so bad for all humans and how we have been brainwashed to believe it is good. There are 2 types of people those who are lactose intolerant like myself which causes diaherea or you simply can not digest it and it causes constipation. He brought out graph after graph and countless studies showing the evils of milk but the one that impacted me the most was he told of the africans starving and the americans wanting to help by sending powdered milk for decades. Well the africans are almost all type O and are 95% lactose intolerant and they have come to call this milk "The White Death" because when they feed this to there starving children they die in hours so they now use it to stucco there huts with. I love Ice cream too but it is evil  I am trying to cut out all milk too!

Yesterday night I believe I developed a fever. I ended up sleeping 16 hours to feel better. Today is a little better. I'm sneezing like crazy and tired but I think I will be over it by Monday. If ice cream at least played a part in this, weakening my immune system, I'm pretty sure I will think twice about having it again. I am hearing that illnesses similar to mine are going around.

explorer thanks for sharing about the white death. I found that really interesting. Sahara, filtered cow's blood? Really?

I really don't think what you are dealing with is from ice cream alone.  It may be you picked up the bug while you were there.  Or there are times when I think our bodies start reacting when we eat, because our immune system is in our guts.  But there may be other factors at play.

I could be wrong though.  The food at Dairy Queen is probably not that good for much.  hehehehhe.  But this just seems like more.

As an older explorer I have come to understand how important it is to follow the diet out of necessity. As soon as I stray or I am even finding diamond cheeses cause me to get phlegum ( oh however you spell that) the curse of being an explorer. I maintain a 4 to 1 ratio of good to bad foods staying away from never foods and this has kept me happy beyond my wildest dreams. I used to catch a cold and the flu every year b4 I understood this. Since the diet I have not caught either and I live with step children that do not comply and they pay the price. When I do feel weak I always eat my power meal which is all diamond foods and that is always the answer just like lola says. A couple of weeks ago I was not copliant as I was visiting friends . I started out witha good breakfast went and played golf then spent the evening playing ping pong witha friend thinking we would go get something to eat. Well he didn't want to go out so all he had was sodas in the fridge so I drank 4 thinking oh i used to do this all the time. well it was ahour and a half drive home and i felt fine when i left but by the time I got home i could barely breathe as my lungs were filling with fluid. I pulled into a ralphs and headed for the onions I had to stop as i started to see stars. Made it there popped a pearl onion in my mouth and it gave some relief so I could drive home and eat good. Which I did swearing I will never do that again.I wish I knew this along time ago it is a gift I try to share but I find so many people have a hard time being honest with themselves and there is so much misinformation I'm sure they all think I'm nuts!
