About two weeks ago, my largest dog (of course), ran, full speed, into the outside of my right leg. I immediately felt intense pain on the inside of my knee, accompanied by quite a bit of swelling. I iced it, and bought a hinged knee support which works quite well at protecting my knee from twisting. I went to my regular doc, and he confirmed my suspicion that it was a torn Medial Cruciate Ligament.  He said rest and ice. Ya right, rest!  ;) My chiro  is treating it with e-stim. I am also applying DMSO ( borrowed from the horses) 1-2 times a day.

Are there any supplements that can hasten my recovery? I am very active with my dogs and horse, and this is cramping my style!  :)

I understand the "need" to be doing.  I also understand the body's need to rest while recuperating and rebuilding from an injury.  The ice and rest prescription is to keep aggravation and heat out of the knee so it can heal.  Qite often, the best plan is as little intervention as possible - but this works best when your diet is very good.

Bromelain is good to reduce inflammation.
Vitamin E is good for skin and soft tissue healing.

Thanks Chole and Joe, it looks like Bromelain is good for the inflammation. I'll make sure to get some, and I'll keep icing it. Sigh, I know ligaments take a long time to heal in animals, so I'll have to try to be patient!
