Hi all,

I've been a fan of Dr. D for years but never really made the full transition. I've read the BTD and the Genotype and believe in the diet, just wasn't ready to focus on it. The times I have replaced my big avoids, I had great and immediate benefits.

Now here I am, 36, pregnant with my first child, married to an O+ who is suffering from insomnia and restless leg that medicine is not helping. (which means I don't sleep well either) He is now turning (finally!) to vitamins and herbs. He is also ready to change his diet, and let me type him (Hunter). I think it's time now to let food help heal what medicine isn't!

I want to start replacing the big avoids for both of us with better foods as we transition into healthier living. In the past he has severely restricted his diet to small amounts of lean meat and veggies, but I'm concerned he's not getting enough nutrition this way.

I will be rereading my ER4YT for A and O to get us started, but does anyone have suggestions on how to start? Wheat and dairy are the first to go for us. Curious if other mixed households have a good system.

I'll continue to look through the threads, too.

PS - from what I have read about Hunters, meat and veggies is a really good diet for them.  He may instinctively know what feels good and reverts back to that when he needs it.

When you go through the food lists, make a note of all the foods both of you have in common. You'll both be able to have rice, turkey, chicken, many kinds of fish, a few beans (black beans and great northern beans) and lots of veggies.

Base shared meals on foods both of you can have. Since your husband is an O, he NEEDS red meat a few times a week for maximum health- but you should avoid beef. So, two options: make beef for him and tofu for you, while sharing the other side dishes at the meal. Or, encourage him to pack beef for meals you eat apart (such as workday lunches). Maybe even a combination of the two: cook a large portion of  beef once a week, serve it one night while you eat something else for your protien, then he's got it to pack for the rest of the week.

I am an A+ with an O+ husband. We both try to avoid wheat, corn (for him) and cow dairy (for both)! ;D
In general we do pretty well by planning ahead and mainly avoiding wheat, dairy, corn.
I make meals with vegetables and just add a meat for him and beans/rice for me. We both love fish so many of our dinners are fish, veggies and salads.

If we eat lunch together its usually a tuna salad or turkey burgers/no bun.
Sometimes we eat breakfast together and enjoy scrambled eggs or yogurt and fruit.
His hardest avoid is shellfish ( he loves it but it causes inflammation..he has arthritis).
My hardest is black tea, sweet red peppers and black pepper. :-/

Forgot to add....
Neither of us need cow dairy but we both love manchegocheese (sheep cheese/ superfood on my swami) and snack on it sometimes with gluten free rice/flax crackers. Its yummy..sort of like parmesan.

Kateland, you will need to decide which of the diet plans you and your hubby are going to follow.  Don't try and mix the GTD with the BTD, except to study them and get a better understanding of your own particular body.

If you follow the BTD Baby book, that will be sufficient for you. (and it's great that you know your secretor status)

He should either follow the Hunter diet OR the BTD for O's (and get his secretor status checked too).  If he follows the BTD diet, get a copy of LR4YT.  It is a more recent book and details lifestyle, exercise and supplement recommendations very elegantly.

And congratulations on your pregnancy!  :)  Lucky baby to be born to a mom who is aware of the connection between the food we eat and the state of our health!

Once again I love the helpful spirit of this community!

Victoria, I agree with you - and I just got a secretor test for him and re-purchased his genotyping kit. I don't know where our original test got off to and the plan is to get him into SWAMI as well, so we both have as individualized diets as possible.

I also purchased the O and A cookbooks to start getting me more "instinctual" on what his general avoids and mine are. Once we're both on SWAMI, i'll be able to substitute ingredients for us much easier and ensure better compliance. The good news is, he loves meat and veggies. We have mozzarella as a staple for us when cheese needs hit, but I will check out the manchego, never heard of it and I'm sure we'll love it, LOL. (thanks Cajun!)

Just got the Baby book - a warm (not hot!) bath tonight, some dark chocolate covered almonds, and I'm cracking into that book.
