BTD Forums  /  Supp Right For Your Type  /  Blood type O and low stomach acid?

I am blood type O+ (unknown secreter status) and have low stomach acid.  Without supplementing with Betaine HCl food sits in my stomach/small intestine and leaves me matter what it is.  I am hypothyroid which I have read can lead to low stomach acid.

Anyone else have a similar situation?  Will this start to reverse once I starting eating right for my blood type?

Also...does this change some of the foods in the Beneficial category for me since the reason some foods are beneficial is because of high stomach acid (ie. dark red/blue/purple fruits)?

That is interesting re stomach acid & dark fruits, Erica... I struggle with dark coloured fruits (& vegs) & wonder if I may have an underactive thyroid...although I don't get so much of the tired syndrome that seems to be the key symptom?! Have you also looked into salicylate sensitivity which affects what fruit & veg you can tolerate too?

I'm not aware of a salicylate sensitivity.  I haven't made any connections with my health and dark fruits specificially, but was just mentioning them as an example.  According to what I've read the reason they are beneficial for Os is they are alkaline so help neutralize the typically high stomach acid of an O...which would not be a good thing in my case since I have to supplement with acid.

Thyroid disease does not present the same in all people, but, yes, I do believe being tired and hypothyroid go hand in hand.

What I'm really curious about is if any other Os have had low stomach acid also and have been able to reverse that?  Will my body start producing more acid if I continue to eat meats, etc. that require high stomach acid...???

This seems to also be a possible reaction to having a toxic system with something you are allergic too, as well.

Sprouted wheat is a thyroid stimulator, maybe worth a try. I really wish I knew why it works. I would love to find out, maybe get it from another source.
