Hi Folks,

I haven't posted for awhile but am still faithfully eating right for my Type-0 nonnie body : )
I've known that I'm an EXPLORER for several months now, and have been considering the LIVER-detox issue quite a bit lately.
The Explorer supplements Activator & Catalyst are of special interest to me, inasmuch as my liver does dictate just about everything I do in my personal universe.
QUESTION: I have been on psych meds for 6 years now. Is there any DANGER in taking Genotype supps, inasmuch as they detox the liver? My liver is no doubt pickled with all sorts of c**p due to the drugs--will it muck with my head?
I've been trying to get off these drugs for just as long as I've been on them; not because I'm a purist, but because they've done more harm than good, and suppressed a lot of trauma that needs to be healed.

first detox, then think of adding, but why not ask DPN customer service for advice?

taper off as quick as possible from SSRI's those do held you in your situation instead of a certain release- better to go for aminoacids insted of chemical bombs, for us ;)
I'd go for or dl-phenylalanine or l'tyrosine or sam-e and other herbal aids, but if possible really go off those meds.... :o(pray)....
load up with red meats, go for toughy exercisings, take B-vits and mg as well and become aware what might be the culprit for you and depression... better to come along while understood instead of getting poisoned ;) :D....

How many drugs are you on and which ones? Some of them cause nasty side effects when you go off them, while others are safer/easier to stop taking. There are physical responses to stopping the drugs, and you may need to taper off of them to avoid a medical crisis when you stop.

You also need to be able to deal with the emotional stuff that pops up when you go off the drugs- all that stuff you've been repressing DOES need to come to the surface and be dealt with, but it may be too much to process all at once and still function. Tapering off slowly can make this "un-supressing" process slower and more tolerable.

Ideally, you should have medical supervision in getting off the meds- a doctor who supports you in going off all meds, reccomends lowered doses (and prescribes the necessary smaller-dosed pills) and monitors you during this process. If you don't have a doctor willing to do this for you, you need to either stay on the drugs longer or taper off on your own.

I ended up going off most of my meds on my own because I didn't have medical insurance and the doc at the mental health clinic was incredibly unhelpful. So I tapered off the meds on my own and informed him about it after the fact. It's not the way I would have liked to do it, but I'm  glad I took my health in my own hands and got off those meds I didn't need. I'm especially glad I got off lithium before I conceived my son!

I suggest you start on the liver-supporting supplements first, and then start tapering off meds after you've been on the supplements for a while.

Amazone, I've taken so many chemical "bombs"--prescribed by well-intentioned doctors--that even a drug-dealer on the streets would say it's time to "clean up" :)
Ruthie, I'm currently on Prozac (20mg) and Oxazepam (45mg). I cross-titrated from Zoloft to Prozac just 1.5 months ago, since Prozac has a very long half-life--and is thereby easier to get off, since it has the least side effect profile. I cross-titrated from Klonapin to Oxazepam one year ago, also with the goal of getting off the benzos--once again, Oxazepam has a longer half-life than Klonapin, so it is easier and safer to withdraw from.
SUPPORT: I think Ruthiegirl is right, provided there are no contraindications, that I should start taking the supps first, reach a safe level of stability, then SLOWLY lower the Prozac.
In the past, for SUPPORT I had great results with both Acupuncture and Homeopathy--but this was before my BTD "conversion".
Lately I'm becoming more "liver" conscious, rather than merely "lectin" conscious. After 1 year of BTD, as well as the hypersensitive realization/reaction of being a nonnie, it's time to pay more attention to my GT.
WHAT THINKEST THOU? The BTD, even for nonnies, seems a lot less restrictive than the GT for Explorers. So I think I'll stick to the BTD for food, and experiment with the GT supps for liver detox.
I know SWAMI is praised over and over again on this forum, but I'm not quite ready for that commitment. My first BTD "birthday"is in 1 month, which means I'm quite young. It's been one of the most radical and unequivocal "secular" conversion experiences in my entire life, and I have no regrets.

Ruthie has given you some very sound advice can't just drop some of these psych meds, particularly benzos.
I'm not even sure that taking many supplements while you're on benzos is a good idea (the reason I know is that I've been  there)...they can rev up withdrawal symptoms.

Ruthie:  a question for you,  as a nonnie, what do you use for sweetening things, because sugar and honey are avoids?  I'm beginning to doubt the accuracy of my secretor test and am getting another, but in the meantime want to try nonnie diet...but I do have a sweet tooth.

instead of soupression with medication;  I'd go for a healthier "oh wow..what's that... might be my true self* ;)......(smarty)(clap)(ok)(dance) while becoming more aware why you're re-acting likewise... I assume better to stay away from all chemicals for us the explorers.... not only for detox issues of your liver ;) and this is truly meant to sustain you quickest recovery from all that junk... I'm always more then stunned while reading about such a behaviour from medical trained people who still think that this is the right therapy.....(scared)(scared)(hand)(mad)

Agave, molasses, and blackstrap molasses. I keep all 3 on hand because they're each good in different things. I use the blacktrap molasses the most (1/2 -1 teaspoon every single day) because it's the most nutritious. It's far less sweet than the other sweeteners so it's not good as the only sweetener in a cookie or cake, but I like it in yerba mate. 1/2 tsp or so of blackstrap is usually the only added sweetener I have the whole day. But regular molasses works well in some baking recipes, and we use agave in salad dressing and in other baking as well.

Sugars aren't so good for us O nonnies. You need to cut back on sweets overall, and then you'll start to appreciate the natural sweetness of many foods, like onions and carrots. But you may need some compliant sweeteners to help with the transition.
