I know loads of people have asked this before about why the blood type and genotype diets are so different, such as why certain foods are classified as beneficial for one diet but avoids for another.  However there's never been any actual specifics given about this other than a generalised "they are two different diets".

I understand about the blood type diet particularly taking into account lectins in foods and how bad they can be as they react with certain blood types, so best to avoid them, but what exactly is the genotype diet basing it's reasons to avoid or eat certain foods.  Why are these foods which were beneficial for the blood type diet with no lectin problems associated with them, suddenly become avoids for the genotype one and vice versa?

GTD is based on a mix of epigenetics and other things, some of which are in common with BTD. BTD does not use epigenetics.

The reason the ratings change between the diets is because of the weight assigned to the various factors. They are two different diets.

Thanks for the reply, but I already understand that, it's the specifics of it that I would like to know such as what exactly in the body is affected, how do these foods affect specific things in the body, like the blood type diet tells about the lectins and red blood cell effects.

Foods have more than one action in the  body. BTD mainly looked at lectin response. For example, dairy products contain lectins that are bad for type O bodies, so most of them are  given "avoid" status- even though some dairy products provide probiotics, contain nutrients that help heal the gut, etc.

In Genotype diet, more values are taken into account. Lectins are still factored in, but since it's only one of many factors, it's de-emphasized. Now, the healing benefits of some cheeses outweigh the negatives of the lectins found in those foods.

Meanwhile, other foods that have no negative lectin activity (so OK on BTD) are now "avoid" because of other factors; other things they do in the body. For example, sweet potatoes are fine for O's but "black dot" (avoid most of the time but OK in moderation) for Gatherers, probably because they're high in carbs.

SWAMI (computer program that calculates individual diets) combines the two systems, checking each food agains numerous factors and giving each food a unique rating just for you.

A variety approaches are used.

Note-- one is trying to accomplish different things in hunters, warriors, explorers, nomads, ....

But one of the primary  techniques is to alter the methylation on DNA and RNA strands.

To deal with aging histone acetylation is altered.

Also the diet is changed to better respond to health conditions(strokes, cancers, diabetes, allergies...) commonly occurring in specific genotypes.
The technique used will vary with the the health condition.

To get a little picture of what we are attempting to do with the GTD, look at one of the Quodlibet maps and see all of the genes with green connections.  The green node indicates how many natural substances have some proven effect...  If you read the articles, some of the substances have a beneficial effect, while others have a deleterious effect.  We want to eat the one that provide a positive effect matching our needs.
