A rather grim and informative article. Interesting that only export markets seem to be concerned wit what is going on here. Hard to say if the resistance is political (i.e. protecting their own industries) or a genuine concern about health effects.

Given that the drug leaves the body quickly and leaves only residues it may be impossible to determine so called "safe" levels. Since the producer is doing the research it looks like a dead end.

I've read that shrimp and pigs are scavengers, which is why it is not healthy food for people to eat.

You know, I wonder how much of the "red meat is bad for you" studies lumped beef and pork together.

I'm sorry, what was the problem with the rabbit. We raised rabbits and want to again. It is the only meat where you can't add chemicals to their feed because they just don't do well with additives. (well, at that time, have things changed?)

How would you rate the rabbit meat? I am assuming the rabbits are held in a cage...

The beef of grassfeeding ranging animals is rated as being much better (leaner, organic) than the meat of stabled animals.

Keeping rabbits is a very interesting option if I one can make it work- I like the whole sound of it!

rabbit is somewhat like the white meat of chicken. rabbit legs are somewhat between breast meat, and the dark (legs) of chicken. You don't need much space, our cages we made ourselves and were somewhat larger than commercial ones.  There are those who raise the in den fashion. So research is useful. The rabbits do better in cooler weather, our summers are hard for them. My WH just got tired of butchering them. BD and our A/B friend seem to have no problems with that. WH loved raising them. This is a food that is bene or super for all of us but one that we have a hard time finding.

Good question. I think they would be classed in together much as Poultry and Ocean fish are. You generally hear of red meat rather than either Beef or Pork separately so they are likely lumped in.

I am not sure what sales volume would be Beef vs. Pork but lumping as compared to separation is going to make a big difference. Though, on the other hand, people who eat beef are likely to eat Pork as well.

Indicates how useless a lot of research actually is.

There are a lot of people who eat beef who won't eat pork- Jews, Muslims, and some Christians avoid pork for religious reasons, and I know I read at least one book that reccomends everybody avoid pork ({u]The Maker's Diet[/u] by Jordin Rubin- overall a natural, whole-foods diet, but not individualized.)

Pork tends to give me instant acid reflux symptoms.  There has got to be something in it that isn't good.  I don't think its as lean for one.  It is definately not good for A's!

Pork is eaten much more now (here in this country, and my area) It is much cheaper, and has been popularized as the "other white meat" and somehow that makes it better for you.   ::) >:(

I think this would be a factor in some areas though in the food mainstream there are popular meat products (steak, Pork chops. Hot dogs, sausages, processed meat etc.) that are either Beef or Pork or possibly a mixture. I think the large majority of people eat both so there are likely lumped together as "Red meat". Trying to untangle them from each other would be next to impossible as many people don't even know what they are eating among other factors.

While on the topic does anyone know why almost all sausage is made from Pork? I see Beef once in a while, marked as such, but the vast majority seem to be Pork.

Edit. I dropped into another store and checked the Beef/Pork prices. The ground Pork was 80 cents/lb. cheaper. (~40%) Looks like price may be a moving force for Pork.

Wild guess,  pork was traditionally a fatter meat, most sausage has a lot of fat.. Also pork intestines where used for the cases, so butcher a pig and use his intestines for the casings. Somethings change some don't

About the rabbit stuff.

I remember when I was buying a pet in a pet store then suddenly a little girl came and said do you have rabbits?

The store seller said yes, what color do you want? Gray , black, white and etc.
The little girl said don't bother for the color, our pet python won`t mind it.
I just poker face that time. :)

Rabbit is one of the highest sources of glutamate and aspartate. So where as the odd portion would possible do little harm, if you concentrate on it and have other foods in your diet that are also high and you have a glutamate and aspartate intolerance, then it would perhaps be worth keeping an eye on.

symptoms like hyper actively, (ADD, ADHD, etc etc) restless leg, easily excitable, gazing, easily upset, inability to focus or concentrate......

often linked to other intolerances and allergies perhaps, certainly casein - perhaps due to it and wheat rating for glutamate and aspartate.

history of epilepsy as a child perhaps, or history of epilepsy in the family.

It is so hard to convince people not to eat pork products.  Too bad more of the general public will never hear of dangerous additive.

Pork has been forbidden by all major religions since Atlantean times because pork is based on genetic manipulation and is wrong.  People who refuse to admit this truly live in ignorance.

Sounds good to me. If the meat is naturally somewhat fatty feeding and/or breeding over many centuries would develop the desired product. Now both tradition and price will allow it to maintain its position as the prefered sausage meat.
