Hi,

any ideas of something economical  that'll be good for a bloodtype B immune booster.

For ex. Garlic is known to be good for the immune system, and very economical.

What would be something like that that's known good for B's I can buy that would keep my immune system in check.

The most important thing for your immune system is to be compliant. No herbs or supplements will compensate for the presence of toxins that tax your immune system. You also need a healthy gut, which means healthy gut flora. If your gut needs a lot of work, you may need supplements to heal it. But if you're overall fairly healthy, you can maintain gut health  by eating probiotic foods, such as yogurt, kefir, and/or lacto-fermented pickles. The kinds of fermented vegetables that contain probiotics are always sold in the refrigerated case; shelf-stable packages have had the "good germs" pasturized right out of it. Bubbie's brand is a good one that's available near me, but they don't sell to Australia. You'll have to contact local companies to find out about their products, or learn how to make your own.

There are two supplements I give to my type B son daily: cod liver oil (a source of vitamins A and D plus omega-3 fats) and elderberry syrup. I try to get him to eat at least a quart of yogurt per week. I'm especially concerned about his immune system now, since he tends to  be healthy over the spring and summer but get sick in the winter and fall. Since it's springtime for you, the elderberry may not be too important right now.

Why would anyone one to "boost" the immune system? Rather to quiet it-- heal the gut lining will go a long way to helping your immune response.

Astragalus root and zinc are fairly inexpensive and effective for helping the B immune system rev up.  Compliant mushrooms and cheeses should also help.

If an inadequate immune response is to blame for illness, wouldn't it be wise to promote a stronger response?

Good point. However I'm not sure where I stand.

On one hand I get sick often.
On the other hand I am intolerant to gluten and am sensitive to some things.

First, What type of pickles are good. I love pickles, but they are a black dot for me. I'm not so familiar with the fermented food situation. Could you tell me more. How does it effect my gut for the better?

I take Omega 3 fish oil daily, but I always wondered how good it was for me. Salmon oil is a black dot for me, so I was wondering if its better to take flaxseed oil  or cod liver oil to get my omega 3 which are diamonds?

I'm also not sure about eating yogurt... cuz its dairy and I don't want to agrevate my sinuses...

I am also gluten-intolerant and have other food sensitivities.  I've worked under the "Reactive Explorer" and the "Receptive Nomad" GTs on my SWAMI, and for me, the Nomad plan works better even though I have problems with inflammation, and muscle and joint pain (fibromyalgia-type symptoms).  I'm not sure why, but I'll take it.  I guess that it's pointing my immune system toward attacking the right things instead of going all autoimmune on me.  I don't know which will suit you better, but this has been my experience.

There was a huge thread about culturing vegetables that I can't seem to find.  Anybody want to help out with that?

Boiled Cat's Claw bark tea seems to be a good daily tonic and I enjoy the  bitter taste, especially chilled. An herbalist I met in Peru recommended taking a small amount(around 4oz.) daily for 2 months, then take 1 month off. Eleuthero root is another inexpensive type b herb which I like to take in capsule form particularly on heavy activity days.

1 tablespoon daily of mint or orange flavored liquid cod liver oil is amazing, whenever I stop taking it for any length of time, I tend to get depression.

Lately I've been making my own fermented sauerkraut. It's simple...just shred some white cabbage, give it a toss in some salt and keep it covered in a cool dark place. If you have yogurt, pour off the whey into the cabbage to jump start the ferment. Regular small amounts of yogurt and fermented foods seem to be key for me.

I think it is old thinking the idea of " boosting" the immune system. Or maybe  you would do it for a short time (sort of like what a fever does) but not over the long term. Wouldn't a fever for an extended period of time.


Your immune system starts in the flora of the bowel so the focus should be on the intestines and the rest will follow.

Look at the profiles of the proberry and the Genoma I think you will find what you are looking for.

I like the term 'modulating the immune system'.  This means that if the immune system is overreactive, it will be toned down.  If it is unresponsive, it will be perked up.  That's one reason I enjoy certain musrooms - both to eat and take as supplements.

I cook a hearty lamb stew on a regular basis with bone stock and a dozen different diamond and superfood vegetables, including shitake and maitake mushrooms.  I also take reishi as a supplement.

I agree that the gut is key to a healthy immune system. I've been taking ARA6 for a decade - anywhere from 1/2 tsp/day to 1 Tb/day, depending on the current need and my finances at the time.  I also like a daily dose of ProBerry Liquid, or if I don't have that - some pure elderberry liquid (no sugar).

And as far as sugar goes, I avoid it like the plague.  Among other things, it suppresses the immune response.

Steady, daily intake of a food-based vitamin C.  I like the ones from Camu powder, Amla berries or Acerola.  Ascorbic acid hurts my digestion, so I don't take that kind.

Cultured dairy helps our immune systems but as you mentioned, avoiding mucous producing foods is important.  I use only goat yogurt (which I make) and keep within my SWAMI guidelines, which for me is 1/4 C daily.

I am currently on a budget so I only use Deflect and eat as compliantly as possible. Prior to packing and preparing for my move, I was 100% compliant with diamonds, only. I found that after my vitamin D deficiency resolved, I was not getting sick as much as I used to (especially with the candida under control).

I really am witnessing the fact that the gut needs to be healthy for the rest of the body to function properly.

I have elderberry syrup in the fridge but did not end up taking it as much as I thought I would. I really really love Deflect. If others are on a budget and can only purchase one item, I highly recommend Deflect.

My lamb stew is my excuse for putting 10 to 20 different Superfoods and Diamonds into a pot at the same time!!  So substitute with your own compliant items if some of these won't work for you.

The day before, I make a bone broth by low cooking a grass-fed knuckle bone all day or all night.  Chill, then remove and discard the solid fat that rises to the top.

In a really big heavy-bottom soup pot, melt 2 TB ghee and saute until fragrant and transparent:
1 chopped red onion and a handful of peeled, chopped garlic cloves.

Add and saute until wilted:
2 to 4 C chopped beneficial mushrooms (I use shitake and maitake)

Add to the pot, 8 C total: chopped celery with tops, one large fennel bulb with some of the tops, chopped; 3 or 4 chopped zucchini, 1/2 red bell pepper, peeled and chopped, 3 large carrots, chopped;

Mix well into vegetables: 1 heaping tsp. (or more) spices of your choice. I like eastern ones.

Pour in 1 quart bone stock and stir well.  Bring up to simmer and cover. Cook until vegetables are 1/2 done.

Clean and chop 8 cups compliant fresh greens, such as Rainbow Chard, Spinach, Kale, whatever suits your type.
Add to stew, along with one small bunch of fresh Basil, leaves and smaller stems.
2 Tb Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1 Tb dry Parsley or more fresh
Start with 2 level tsp sea salt.  You can add more later if needed.
1/2 cup strong ginger tea, made ahead by simmering two fingers of fresh gingerroot, minced and cooked in water for 1 hour.

Sometimes at this point, I'll add a bag of frozen or fresh cubed butternut squash.  Frozen is faster and by this time, I'm tired of cooking!  ;)

Add 1 1/2 to 2 pounds chopped lamb.  I use the leg, which my butcher de-bones for me.

Cover and simmer for another 1/2 hour.

You could buy some of your veggies as frozen and ready to cook.  I do that when I make my turkey stew.

I think that does the trick for me as well. I love yoghurt, kefir, kambucha...

Sauerkraut is also a good one.

They are so cleansing for Nomads, who need that fermentation going on in that gut - all about the good guys prevailing. It is a balance.

You could use a food processor.  I gave mine to my daughter because she is a full-time student and doesn't have much time to devote to cooking.  I actually enjoy the meditation of making my super stew once a week.  After the first day or so, I blend it all until it's creamy.  It tastes better as time goes on.

i just made this today (well, started yesterday with the broth)...OMG! awesome!

i had to sub out/in a few things of course but it turned out amazing!

and in case anyone is curious... romaine lettuce actually cooks up pretty well (I'm in rural canada right now, there isn't much in the the way of fresh greens - just spinach and some lettuces)
