A very old friend sent me an email on Alzheimer's and coconut oil, not easy for him as both his parents recently died of this. He knows I am interested in food etc so he sent me a link which was really thoughtful.

My first thought is yes but what is the Blood type Link? perhaps Lola will link me ;)

Oils don't really influence the progression of Alzheimers Disease.

Phophatidyl compounds do, to some extent.

NAP/DPN will be releasing a trehalose compound that does seem to block the progression of AD:

Would it be a good idea to take it by people with diabetes, or Lyme, to avoid as best as can be done.. would one take it every day for the rest of ones life?

FYI....trehalose is a sugar.  It appears to be good for diabetics.

Wish it had been around to help my mother.  It's so so sad to watch a bright person dimmed by the ravages of Alz's.

Source: American Friends of Tel Aviv University, February 15, 2011: Prof Daniel Michaelson of Tel Aviv University, who has identified the APOE gene as a major cause of Alzheimer’s.  One variation of the gene, APOE4, kills brain neurons, and is found in half of all Alzheimer’s patients.  Around 15 per cent of healthy individuals also have the bad gene, and they are at far greater risk of developing the disease themselves as they age.  But Michaelson and his team has discovered that omega-3 fish oils counteract the worst effects of APOE4, rendering them harmless.

Dr. D, what's your take on the APOE gene being rendered harmless by omega-3 fish oils?
