Is "rice" maltodextrin less harmful to me than wheat or corn maltodextrin? NOW brand stevia has rice maltodextrin as an additive.  Is there a brand of stevia that is better?  Thanks in advance for your help.

malt in general has a sprouting process implied

so far, I have had little luck sprouting rice!!!

I d ask the company if maltodex derived from corn is added to the rice, or if it is pure and how it is processed

ask around or google a purer source of stevia best

malt per se is supposedly sprouted barley

Much easier to make matlodextrin by cooking starch rather than trying to sprout the grains.

SWAMI rating for maltodextrin is actually for "High Maltose Corn Syrup, Maltodextrin" so I take the rating to be only for corn derived maltodextrin.

I do horrible with corn derived products, so I always assumed I would do better with rice derived maltodextrin than corn derived maltodextrin. Have not done testing to verify this.

For stevia-I prefer to just clip a few leaves off the plant.  This only works well for tea.

The label specifically lists the additive as RICE Maltodextrin (not corn or wheat).  I just thought that it might be more preferable because it is derived from RICE.  

Sweet Leaf Stevia adds "inulin" for fiber.  I have not yet found a store brand stevia that is totally pure, no added ingredients.

I've found pure stevia (no additives whatsoever) in both Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. It's in a teeny tiny bottle, and a little goes a LONG way- a serving size (sweetness equivilent of 1 teaspoon) is 1/40th of a teaspoon, and it comes in a shaker bottle and usually has a teeny tiny serving spoon inside as well.

That said, if I still used stevia, and couldn't find the pure stuff, I'd feel comfortable using rice maltodextrin since all forms of rice are OK for me.

ruthiegirl...thanks.  This is what I'm thinking...that because the maltodextrin is derived from RICE it might be ok.

Perhaps, you might like to try making your own stevia liquid.  There are instructions online, but I can't say much about the results since I've never tried it myself.
