Hi.

I have just started at the blood test diet. I'm an A- but I don't know if I'm a secretor or non secretor and I think it's not esasy to know that in my country (Spain). I've decided to follow the secretor food lists.

I've always had digestive problems, nothing serious, but I often feel bloated with just a chicken breast in my stomach! I try to have a balanced diet routine, but I think I've been abusing meat, and avoiding carbs. I don`t have problems with my weight but I want to give this diet a chance.

My main concern is that I'm afraid of gaining weight eating son much carbs. In my first weel my eatings went like this:

Breakfast: soy milk, oat, kiwi

Snack: a piece of fruit (pineapple, apple, strawberries...)

Lunch: letins, rice or gluten free pasta with vegetables + 1 yogur

Snack: a piece of fruit (pineapple, apple, strawberries...)

Dinner: fish and vegetables

Don't you think I will put on some weight if I eat grains for lunch most of the days? I'm trying to reduce my meat intake to 2 days a week.

What do you think of my diet routine?

Welcome Susana:

When I was in Spain, there were lots of opportunities to eat Fish. Fish to me is a type of meat. I would not try to drop it to just twice a week. (I may have interpreted this differently than you meant).

I eat almost no pasta and do not miss it. I presume letins actually were lentils. I would encourage those over pasta.

Thanks for your answer. I meant I decided to reduce just meat intake (chicken and turkey) but I'll have fish for dinners almost every day!

Welcome Susana. I cant give up my meat but I am still losing weight even though I eat meat on a daily basis. Beans just don't do the job for me. I like my chicken and fish. My favorite bean is the adzuki bean. It is so versatile. Love them in a rice pasta vegetable stir fry. The beans apparently make the rice pasta a complete protein. Do you like pink grapefruit? They are good to help burn fat. Just dont eat or drink grapefruit around the time you take meds or supplements. There could be an interaction. I am finding it easier and easier every day to let go of the foods I once loved. Good luck.

Eating a carb breakfast is very stressful for an A. So try and think dinner for breakfast. If you think about it you are starting your day so your body needs energy to function properly.

I am an A Warrior Secretor and start my day with tofu and vegetables.

I agree that your diet seems low in protein, very low actually.  Your dinner fish and vegetables would make a great breakfast

Hi,
What's is a "letins" ?   Oats is fine but you could add a whole egg to that to help with your protein needs.   Bye the way, it's the Blood Type Diet  :)

I don't really feel as bloated as I have expected... but after a week I feel my trousers tighter and my constipation is back...

I tried not to eat meat every day, not even the good ones but that makes my meals too rich with carbs.

I think I'll keep the fish and vegetables for dinners and add turkey at breakfast. That will increase my protein intake.

Exactly.  Make sure your meals are vegetable-based and have a good source of protein.  The bulk of the meal should definitely not be carbs.

I am supposed to have four 1/2 c serves of carbs per day, according to my SWAMIX.

I am underweight if anything, and would like to put on a few kilos, but this diet keeps me very thin, even though I eat a lot. I was slim to start with, but as soon as I started the BTD I lost a few kilos and altogether have lost about 6kgs since I have been eating this way. I feel much better and most of my original digestion problems have disappeared.

I was surprised by the amount of carbs SWAMI told me to eat, but if it says I should, then it must be ok?? My main point being, carbs don't necessarily make you gain weight.

Did u know that for every 1 g of carbs you consume, your body holds roughly 3 g of water & that breaking down 1 lb into grams is about 454 g? So, if someone consumes, say 200 g of carbs a day, that's about 600 g of water, which can explain the nearly 2 lbs of water weight you gain by the end of the day. This is why low carb diets were popular for a while but don't obsess! Complex carbs provide energy & brain food!!

Add more protein, like the others have recommended and small amounts of carbs at each meal. I do 1 or 2 TBS of Quinoa at each meal. I am supposed to have 4: 1/2 cup servings a day, but that much produces really bad cravings for me so I do small amounts at a time.....No worries, your trousers will fit fine in no time!  ;)

Are you saying that you think the carb portion is too high or too low?

I would say carbs are the macronutrient that make you gain weight.  If you need to gain weight, most likely the only way it's going to happen is if you up your carbs.

Pay attention to the swami portions, but don't feel that they are absolute.  They are good guidelines, and are probably best for those trying to lose weight.  I'm anything but trying to lose weight, and if I followed by swami portions I'd be dropping weight fast.

I find I need my carbs to keep my weight up.  But protein is important too.  I think you have to experiment a little to see what is satisfying to you.

I think with the carbs you are back to the individual and how their body works.  I also have 4 servings of carbs on swami, but if I ate them I would keep gaining weight.  

For me, if I ever can eat them, oats with pineapple/walnuts and an egg on the side for breakfast is perfect.  Right now, my digestion isn't handling the grains at all.  I do prefer the raw oat groats and just cook them for 40 minutes.  Very chewy and tasty.
