Hello there :)
I'd like to ask if using skin products with aloe and oatmeal(example:Aveeno lotion) is harmful for people with O blood type a s they are on avoid list as a food.I have a skin condition called Vitiligo(white patches of skin) so I don't want to worsen it.
I also would like to ask if there is anybody who has this desease and following BTD helped him/her to get better?Thank you so much for any information.

Hi vilemo76 - I have not had success using aloe or oatmeal or Aveeno lotion... I think :-/ it has soy in it too which burns my skin??!! Does it have aloe in it as well?

Those white patches, I think (from what I recall) could be from a lack of molybdenum ??) :-/ I have fainter patches om my jaw & one cheek from healed up scarring (caused by soy ::)) & they seemed to get better when I was eating buckwheat (which has high level of molybdenum) but unfortunately the grains did not suit me & I did put on weight from getting hooked on buckwheat pancakes & being too full to eat much meat... ::)

In general, it's OK to use "avoid" foods topically. Somewhere there's an article by Dr D about coconut oil- after explaining why most of us shouldn't eat it, he ends with "use the coconut oil in your skin instead" or something to that effect.

There are exceptions, however. If you're allergic to something, you may react to topical use as well as through ingesting. I can get systemic reactions to wheat if it's wet and gets into a cut in my skin (though these reactions are milder and shorter-lived than if I ingest wheat.) There are also plenty of nasty chemicals in a lot of commercial products.

Your skin is porous and can absorb things- but only if those molecules are small enough to fit through the membrane of the skin. Magnesium ions are better absorbed from the skin than from the GI tract. Lots of drugs can be given via "patches" put on the skin. Chemical additives in shampoos, body lotions, soaps, etc, can often be absorbed through the skin.

But the surface of your skin can't digest anything. If it's not already broken down, it will just sit on the top of your skin. Aloe vera gel, while irritating to the GI tract, is very soothing and harmless on the skin surface. Oatmeal is also fine when used topically, unless you have an oat allergy.

I'd be more worried about parabens or other additives in Aveeno lotion. However, if you have a skin condition, now is not a good time to change your skin care routine. Change your diet, see if your skin heals, and then look for healthier skin lotions.

Obviously there are exceptions to this ??) even without severe allergies to the food??!! So I have to disagree to some extent...
2 things - if you stick a clove of garlic in your shoe, why then does your breath smell of garlic soon after? & also if I use a cloth with lemon oil to clean, without me even directly touching the oil myself, I will burp lemon later...
2ndly; I can put pure aloe vera (& tea tree oil) on my skin & it will be red raw in not too long a time... ::)

Thank you so much for all informations.I mostly use natural,organic products for skin without parabens and other bad stuff,but most of them have aloe vera so  I think I'd better just stay away from those ones, just in case :)

Yeah - I find most natural products have aloe vera so limits what I can even consider...so I never say aloe to vera :D

A lot also have essential oils or Vit E derived from soybean for preservative ::) both of which effect me like crazy :o & sometimes products simply have too much/many oils in them for my skin - despite the fact that it is on the dry side, so I am way better getting my hydration from water & other oils/fats I eat ;)

The smelly part of the garlic must be in very small molecules that pass through the skin easily. Lemon oil must similarly be in very small molecules that can be absorbed through the skin.

You must have a topical allergy to aloe vera. Topical allergies aren't always to the same things we have trouble eating. Maybe there's some substance that irritates your skin that would otherwise be neutralized by stomach acid and not cause trouble.

As for the tea tree oil, either you have a topical allergy or sensitivity to the oil, or it's simply too irritating on your skin when undiluted.
