BTD Forums  /  Nonnie Clubhouse  /  I am a SEE food addict - when to eat what?
Posted by: Goldie, Monday, April 25, 2011, 3:29pm
I am looking to drop some pounds, but the more I strive for it, the more I wish to eat..

I am terrible.. I know all about the diets here, yet when I go shoping and buy lets say a MANGO, then I am able to leave it on the window sill for as long as I don't cut it - BUT once I cut it and wish to only eat half, (to accomodate my 'sugar/diabetes issues,_ I am NOT able to put the other half away.. I keep eating until it is all gone and then I feel guilty.

I feel terrible, insofar also that I can not get it through my head that I need to eat certain things at specific times in combo with other foods.

I drink hot cocoa first thing in the morning in place of coffee

I eat ghee with 1 egg for breakfast..

for a snack on hour later.  I try to make it a salad or a cup of broth, (I AM afraid to eat fruit for fear that it will make me crave more)..

At lunch I eat olive oil vegetables and meat, no problem, BUT I AM WONDERING IF I SHOULD eat 1 fruit with it or not?????????? what is the better wisdom here for acid reflux and diabetes ?????
I appreciate feedback..

For on afternoon snack I am looking for a 'something' and have either a glass of pineapple juice diluted with water, or some fruit ( and used to eat nuts - but not right now)   I AM AFRAID TO EAT SWEETS alone (should I be?) I am afraid that it will cause sugar issues?? what else should I do ..
I need help here to get it through my thick skull... help,,

At dinner olive oil, protein and vegetables and I am ok.

but for later 'something' often cold..I look for something --I eat some frozen blue berries ( I am looking for elderberries but cant seem to find them in my neighborhood). I like frozen fruit since it's out of sight in the freezer and not bothering me to look at all day.

But I still feel terribly .. I seem to not UNDERSTAND, as I am still looking for food or snacks (and I feel GUILTY) ..

so I signed up to be hypnotized today to stop this endless mess.

What saves me is that small portions are generally enough.. with the protein powder I learened to stuff myself less and less- in the attempt to give my stomach a chance to empty faster. I WONDER if I should keep DrD's O Protein powder going for breakfast or just eat the allowed egg???????

-- the last few days I have a desire for lemon water.. any idea why my stomach seems to feel a liking for it?  I am still taking many supps for indigestion / but when I eat off diet then my insides act up quickly.. so I still have healing to do.-- I used to say I have a cast iron stomach.. I wonder what happened that I have acid reflux now??? ..

I am at a loss of figuring this out...

What do other addicts do?  mind over matter has limitations, since when I use my mind then I will actually look for foods more often - it's like kicking me in my own shins..   :-/

I am looking forward to have the hypno work..  I had success before..  ;D

Quoted from Goldie
- BUT once I cut it and wish to only eat half, (to accomodate my 'sugar/diabetes issues,_ I am NOT able to put the other half away.. I keep eating until it is all gone and then I feel guilty.

It may help to put 1 half of the item away as soon as it is split, prior to starting to eat the desired portion.  If it is to be refrigerated, put it away right away.  If it is to remain at room temperature, put it in a box or cupboard so it is out of sight.

If you want to eat fruit with lunch, the best way is to start with the fruit, then after about 15 minutes, follow on with the rest of lunch...

Are you eating enough vegetables (live foods in SWAMI)?  I find I start "hunting" when I am short on vegetables...  Even grabbing a couple lettuce leaves will often satisfy the immediate need...

Are you getting adequate exercise?  I've heard other Gatherers talk about the importance of exercise for them to be able to lose weight.

The mind over matter thing seems to also be a Gatherer trait, until they find the balance, then it drops away as long as they maintain the balance...  hopefully, you will find your balance soon! ;)

THANKS.. yes this will work.

YOU HAVE HELPED me GRATELY before my hypno appointment.>>  I wish to go into the hypno session with positive emotions and to make it easier for my subconcious to 'absorb' ... thanks for 'balance'.. the above will make it easier.. 8)

Hey Goldie - Love the joke "See Food Addict" Used to be a standing line/joke when we were teenagers...;)
It is hard re fruit for some of us... Can you avoid fruit altogether for  a while & see if it makes a difference? & don't forget the power of those vegs & meat

I like Joe's suggestion about putting the other half of the food/s away before eating what you had planned to eat.

Are you eating all of the suggested quantities of foods on your SWAMI?

I find that if I don't eat my suggested amounts of everything, I will crave food that I shouldn't be eating.

After being so compliant for so long, I recently went on an ice cream binge.  I must have needed the dairy.  Anyway, I am back on track (something else I love about BTD, GTD, SWAMI, you can just jump right back on so easily; the price I will pay remains to be seen) and I find that I can easily resist the things I shouldn't have when I eat all of the quantities of the various groups of foods that I should have in a day.

I am pretty much eating what I typed above.. (done so for 15 years or more) ..

when I get really crazy then I give in and eat maybe pineapple slices, or peas, or some other beneficial food.  I am easy able to do it as long as I have nothing else in the house > and it is ok with me.. what I don't see I don't crave.. !

IF I must have icecream.. which I more or less gave up last October and am doing well without it.. then, I go OUT and will have one soop on a cone.. at least that way I am not eating a pint until it is all gone..

I see the dairy in cream as a neutral, even though it's not listed that way.. I also like parmesan cheese > because it is easy and a little goes a long way.. (I had given up all dairy for so long that I can hardly think of going back.. so no I do NOT eat all the things I am allowed.. but I feel less guilty about the sometimes icecream or parmesan..and less guilt is a good thing.)

I also believe that sometimes the body knows what it might need even when it is not on our list.. and not more then 5%.

Since I only eat Super/Diamond or Beneficials (at home) I am less concerned with the occasional neutral.. I do try to stay away from avoids and since I know that the items above are avoids > I am working on 'exchanging' them by eating frozen fruits and maybe some day soon making my own Quark cheese that is like yogurt.. so there is hope.

but today : I ate a cup of peas because nothing else would do to fill my empty stomach.. but peas are on my Swami..

PUTTING the rest of the PORTION of any fruit or extra food in the fridge will make a big difference.. !!WHY does it make sense when someone else comes up with the OBVIOUS solution..  ;D ;D thanks all ...

This morning at 7 ..I got up and went walking 2 miles .. I was so ready that I forgot even to have a drink first.. haha but I did it.. then I had to rest fro on hour... haha but then I did some thing interesting,

Somewhere I had read that white beans before eating will help curb the hungry feelings.. well I bought some white beans in a can.. That is not what was suggested, but I had a memory laps..(they where supposed to be raw and put in the coffee grinder as a powder) but I took a few like a lg tablespoon of the canned ones and cooked them with my single egg, hoping that the two things together might at least hold me for a while.. it is 11am and I am not hungry.. a good thing..

BEANS are a big deal for me as I have not eaten any 30 years.. but the tablespoon full seems to not have triggered the sugar issues and still filled me up just enough.. All the rest is in the frdge hidden from eye sight until tomorrow. 8)

Later I will have a few aparagus as they are suposed to be so good for us.. life is good when it's good..

I did not do the food hypno, but some other interesting curative thing (email me for more info) ... I think it motivated me to walk today.. a good thing.. and I feel better.. all good.

Goldie, in my opinion I think it would be best to just try and eat healthfully, good quality food and make sure all your hormones etc. are at their optimum - I was thinking you may be low on chromium ... that really helped me in the past!!!

And perhaps also try berries (raspberries etc)  when you are looking for a sweet treat (organic though, because they are otherwise soaked in pesticides) - they should be less insulinemic

hope this helps
