I am looking for a way to thicken my home made almond milk. I tried putting Agar in the blender but it didn't dissolve... I probably should have boiled in some warm water first. I love the consistency of Trader Joe's new Almond Milk, however, I am not sure about the avoids it contains...

It has:
Gellangum
Xanthan Gum (which is an avoid for sure)
etc...

If anyone has an idea of a thickening agent which can make protein shakes thicker I would love to hear ideas! I have been making a lot of protein shakes with pumpkin:
- 1/2 cup pumpkin + egg white protein powder. + almond milk + cocoa..
It is simply yummy. I also made one with zucchini in order to make it less glycemic and it turned out quite pallatable too!
However, when I do it with the TJ almond milk it comes out much better...because it adds a thicker consistency...
Any ideas?

If you make your own almond milk, you can make it thicker by using more almonds/less water.

Bananas (especially frozen) are great for thickening shakes if you can tolerate them. You don't need a lot: slice a banana and freeze, then use 1 or 2 slices per smoothie.

You can also try adding ice to the blender- that alone may do the trick.

chia and linseed help thicken nicely......also lecithin to emulsify

are you soaking your almonds overnight before grinding?

that also helps, and the fine mesh bag or colander to extract all the pulp possible.....
some beneficial oil as well.....

what type of grinder are you using?

I use Flax or Chia seed to thicken.

Chia are probably more effective and alter the flavor less.

I soak the chia seeds for a while before blending.

The seeds will also thicken if not presoaked, but you will need to let the beverage rest before drinking and perhaps reblend.

Soy lecithin might be a nice addition if it is beneficial on your SWAMI. It thickens things when it sits a little bit and it has a slight vanilla flavor (subtle). Dr. D says it's just lecithin, not a soy issue for BT O's.

I use ground flax and ground chia seeds.  They thicken smoothies nicely and also add protein and healthy fats.

I've been using liquid lecithin to thicken; it works nicely, and adds a creamy/foamy consistency to soy milk (that's the only "milk" I've tried it with, though).
