Had an ultrasound recently and the sonographer commented that I had a lot of gas, making it difficult to see certain areas, including the kidneys.

I drink a lot of plain mineral water which I thought was helping my stomach acid/bloating.  I would be 90%+ compliant (please don't tell me to be 100% compliant - I'm working on that) and was wondering if anyone could suggest other reasons for so much gas.

What else are you eating?
Posted by: Narc, Sunday, December 12, 2010, 9:57pm; Reply: 2
On my SWAMI, I am not allowed beans, milk, cabbage, brusell sprouts and coca-cola.

If I am 90% compliant and the other 10% consists of beans, milk, cabbage, brusell sprouts and coca-cola... do you think I would have gas?

Every single one of those items would make me big time and I'm a secretor....

and 's milk are the WORST for you.... let them go and concentrate on what you can eat. There are good beans you can eat; soak them first before cooking.

;)  I did pick up on it Narc. :P

In answer to your feedback though, I don't eat any of those products you suggested (beans, cabbage, milk, brussell sprouts, coca-cola).  That's why it has me quite stumped.

My 10% of non - compliant food would be rice milk from the super market. This has two e numbers Emulsifier (471) and Acidity Regulator (501) though I am not quite sure what Acidity Regulator actually means.

I also drink white wine on weekends and I am partial to getting myself a Muffin Break gluten free muffin which would probably have milk in it (yes I know I am contradicting my earlier statement).  This is only once a month though so how could that keep my stomach  bloated??????

If your stomach has a lot of gas does that give you additional weight?  I could not see why I weigh so much when I really don't eat all that much - and this is honest to god, not a "kidding myself" statement!!!! ;D

Obviously that acidity regulator is not doing its job ::) ;D

Oh & re the drinking wine... you might be reacting to the sulphites? Also, have you tried red wine instead? Not suggesting they have less sulphites; just red suits some O's better...

Yes I keep saying that I will change to red - perhaps a Rosae as this can be cooled.  The thought of wine at room temp. just doesn't appeal.

Big step but if I can stop having coffee I'm sure I can change to red wine as well.  ;D !!!

Well just to let you know from a ultrasound tech/sonographer stand point, you may not have any excessive gas, it may be the normal amount everyone has from the digestion process we cannot avoid. Just that alone can make ultrasound viewing difficult in the abdomen...so it's possible if you are not feeling particularly gassy then it just may have been the usual amount seen during ultrasounds of the abdomen.

Thanks Possum!  I also pat myself on the back for that one as it did take me quite a while and a lot of willpower to get that monkey off my back!

Thankyou so much for this feedback, though I have to say I am sitting on the fence as to whether I like the reality of this comment of not.

I was kinda hoping it was excess gas, and that someone would come up with a brilliant explanation, I would then take their advice, and suddenly my stomach would be half the size it currently is!!!!.

Wishful thinking?????/!!!!!

Gas is quite often from not digesting properly...  Bad digestion can be from incorrect flora in the gut, damage in the gut (from previous or current foods), stored toxins being removed from the body, etc...

Most of my flatulence has been eliminated by healing the gut and eating per plan, but once in a while, I still deal with a bout during major detox...

Good thought ABJoe.  I can definately relate to this as it has really only been over the last three months or so that I have been able to get to this level of compliance and I am now starting to see the benefits of changing my diet.

I purchased on the weekend the O type probiotics as I didn't think "Inner Health Plus" (Aussie brand) was doing much good.  So now you have got me thinking that once I start the O type probiotics this may help in releiving the bloating/gas.

Ohhhhhhhh  ;)hh

Yes I agree with that Lola.  You would have thought I would have asked her straight away - but noooooo drama queen Aussie is just thinking about the fact they will find something shockingly bad (absolutely nothing wrong with me!) that I didn't even think about asking her.

But I will give them a call.  Good thinking 99!!!  (as in Maxwell Smart)

OMG what a drama!!!  I rang to see if I could speak to the sonographer & was told that I had to go through my GP.  Forget that!!!

Anyway did lots of Googling and it kept on coming up to take bicarbonate of soda and I can assure you that this gets rid of gas!!!  Also great for my dry mouth (due to medication).

I think I have found the answer.

Do you know your genotype? Perhaps you are a gatherer and need to eat more often to keep your metabolism burning rather than storing?  ::) ??)

Where do I find out about my Genotype?  I have purchased Swamiexpress but it hasn't arrived yet.

Gas that is consistent is probably from carbohydrate intolerance and maybe a hint of dairy indigestion. Insulin resistance can create the carbohydrate intolerance. Aside from that the only likely scenario for gas is a shift in gut flora but you would probably notice the symptoms if it was off balance based on what you ate, not just gas.

If you want to cheat I would rather it be with wine and almond milk. However this "gas" well unless you express it via flatulence (farts, not because I assume you are unacquainted with the word flatulence but because I wanted to type fart and this sentence explaining that choice) it can not be that bad.

Keep up the red meat too. Very important for digestive balance as it triggers IAP which keeps a lot of bacteria in check. Ghee or Intrinsa are nice for gut healing and deflect. They are all good but honestly I would just try to get some bladderwack in you and take your 10% out of things other than carbohydrates.

Wow thanks for reminding me about that.  As a person who had it drummed into my head that red meat was bad for me I have to keep reminding myself to eat red meat.  Now that I think about it I haven't had any for a couple of days.

get the GTD book at your library or buy it.....
to run swami express, measurements and all data you will be needing is illustrated in the GTD book......so it would be wise to read it and follow instructions given in the book...
swami and the book go together....
also watch the videos for GTD....very illustrative!
