BTD Forums  /  Testimonials  /  O Got My health back. How do I make amends to my B

Type O:
A friend bought eat for your type book some years ago. I had some health problems namely depression. I was getting arthritis in one of my wrists. I had lower back pain for some years. I did feel much better. My arthritis went away my back and depression improved.

History
When growing up I was given Shredded Wheat with milk and sugar for breakfast. I had this for many years, I had sinus and very bad catarrh problems. Week muscles and tiredness. I eventually had my tonsils and Adoniods out when I was about 7 years old. Just made some new break through with my Blood group diet. If only I had known about this diet when I was young. I've been on the BTD for a quite a while now.

New Improvements
I was having Wheat free muesli for breakfast or Puffed rice. But I didn't feel that great. I was always craving cake, chocolate. I thought it was just my own neurosis/addictive behaviour. I had put on some weight after undergoing Spinal Surgery. A friend recently told me about the Palaeolithic diet. This looked very similar to the O BTD. My friend suggested having Protein in the morning. I had some Mackerel with fresh Spinach. I felt completely different, all my CRAVINGS have gone ! I feel great, my head is no longer fussy.  I've lost nearly one stone (14 pounds) in just 3 weeks. Other minor health issues have cleared up from sweat rashes, dandruff and a irritating itchy anus at night. So I've recommitted to the BTD. It's the best thing ever. I'm back in the gym and have bags more energy. It's a miracle I'm telling every one about it.

But I do need some help/advise
I'm yet to find my Secretor status as yet. I'm in the UK so it's really awkward getting one of these kits from the US and you have to send it off back to the US. I have so much more energy, I can’t sleep at might. What do I do ?
I feel really sad what my body went through all these years. Apart from sticking with the BTD, how can I make amends to my body ? What supplements could I buy to repair the damage ? There are many on the  BTD website, it’s a bit confusing what to buy if any. Any suggestion gratefully received.

Good job with the BTD!

If you can't sleep try exercising more.
Practice stomach breathing when you get into bed.  You may just fall asleep by concentrating on your breathing instead of extraneous things.

Keep up the good work!

Why not check into your MEMBER CENTER (link at the top) and pick a Blood Type shield to display on your posts.  This will go a long way towards helping the other members to more specifically answer your questions about the program.

I believe Tom Greenfield is in England and can get you secretor typed.

Welcome JP glad you made your way here. Recently my A daughter was told to take two cortiguard at bedtime to help with difficulty falling asleep. It has helped.. she has tons of stress from school.

Wonder if catechol would do the same for an O?

I am a Type O Non-secretor and over the years I developed similar symptoms to those you describe.  I developed leaky gut syndrome and it was like the floodgates opened as soon as bad lectins began leaking into my bloodstream.  I developed rheumatoid arthritis, acid reflux, severe hemorrhoids, and fibromyalgia from gluten; fibromyalgia, tendonitis, and skin rashes from corn; sinusitis, gastritis, and irritable bowel syndrome from dairy; and a whole host of other symptoms that I have not yet isolated to any particular allergen, including headaches, heart arrhythmias, peptic ulcers, autoimmune disorder (positive ANA test and very high titer), high C-Reactive Protein blood test (indicates inflammation), night terrors, dental problems, etc.

So while all of these health conditions did not seem related, they actually were related to the holes that had formed in my small intestines.  Leaky Gut Syndrome (or permable gut) is caused by bacterial adhesion to and destruction of some tissue in the small intestine, thus creating holes through which undigested food, including damaging lectins, enter the bloodstream.  Once they're in the bloodstream, the immune system attacks the tissue where they land--joints, muscles, tendons, organs (including skin).  There are different theories, and maybe not mutually exclusive, about whether the damaging bacteria is H. pylori or Candida.  H. pylori is most common in Type O Non-secretors.  Either way, the bad bacteria must be eliminated (in the case of H. pylori) or reduced (in the case of Candida), and the same techniques generally will achieve both.  Also, the individual must stop eating the foods that are not digested well because the gut will not heal if the offending foods enter the gut and cause inflammation, immune system attacks, and continue to leak through the holes you're trying to heal.  Also, the individual should avoid foods that feed the bacteria--primarily sugars, yeast, and fermented foods such as vinegar.

You are definitely on the right track with the Blood Type Diet.  I'm following BTD and I've greatly reduced the flare-ups of autoimmune attacks and inflammatory responses by cutting out gluten, corn, dairy, and refined sugars.  I've also started taking supplements to heal the gut.  My research indicates that some of the most important natural supplements include L-glutamine, Mastic Gum, Slippery Elm, Bismuth Citrate, Berberine, Deglycyrtthizinated licorice root (DGL), and Bentonite clay.  There are others but these seem to be the ones that stand out.  I have found that Dr. D's GASTRO-D COMPLEX has Mastic Gum, Slippery Elm, Bismuth, DGL, and Bentonite.  I found L-glutamine at my local Whole Foods Market and I understand that it is one of the most important supplements to promote healing of the gut.  I wonder why Dr. D has not put it in any of his products.

Also, Dr. D's GENOMA EQ product has Stinging Nettle Root (Urtica dioica), which contains a lectin that agglutinates the Candida yeast (note that according to Dr D, Stinging Nettle Root should be avoided by blood types B and AB because it may agglutinate to red blood cells carrying the B antigen).  In addition, Dr. D’s INTRINSA product supports stomach, intestine, and colon health with Butyric acid (short-chain fatty acid that heals intestinal cells); and Caprytic acid (medium-chain fatty acid with anti-fungal, anti-microbial, and anti-parasitic properties).  Also, Larch arabinogalactan increases gut microflora, increases short-chain fatty acid production, and offers immune-enhancing properties.  Larch arabinogalactan is found in the following products from Dr. D:  Intrinsa, Deflect O, ARA6, ARA Plus, ProBerry Caps, Helix Plus, and Fucus Plus.

In addition to INTRINSA, GASTRO-D, and GENOMA EQ, I take (and recommend) DEFLECT O (to reduce the harm done by lectins that do sneak in) and POLYFLORA O (to re-populate the good flora in your gut and move out the bad bacteria).  Also, don't forget the L-GLUTAMINE from a health food store.

Eliminating wheat and gluten as you have done was the most important improvement I made for my health.  In addition, however, I found that corn was a close second to gluten in making me feel miserable.  I had to completely eliminate corn as well as gluten before I really started healing my gut and before I noticed a significant and persistent drop in inflammation.  The problem is that corn is in EVERYTHING, even more so than gluten.  There is corn in most artificial sweeteners, maltodextrin, sorbitol, potassium citrate, sodium citrate, ethylene, cellulose, mono and di glycerides, vanilla, glycerol, gluconic acid, xanthan gum, lecithin, iodized salt, baking powder, acetic acid, ascorbic acid and of course the obvious ones like corn starch, corn syrup, corn oil, margarine, corn syrup, etc.  Here is a really good web site that discusses corn allergens:
http://www.cornallergens.com/list/corn-allergen-list.php

I have also read that soy and casein (in cows milk) have the same destructive effects on the gut as gluten and corn do.  These four foods--gluten, corn, casein, and soy--have the same glue-like properties that stick to the gut lining and promote bacteria growth, which destroys the gut and creates permeability (leaky gut).  I personally never have soy so that is easy for me to stay away from but I do have to be careful with soy sneaking into processed foods--even organic foods.  The only dairy I have is butter and I'm trying to switch to ghee, but it has been hard for me to get and I haven't taken the time to make it yet.  I don't have butter much, anyway.

So what's working for me is:
(1) Avoiding the glue-foods: gluten, corn, casein (cow dairy), and soy
(2) Taking natural supplements to heal the gut
(3) Adhering to BTD to get the beneficial foods that my body needs to heal and get healthy
(4) Avoid all NSAIDs (over-the-counter non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs--pain killers such as Advil, Motrin).

This is not a quick process and taking any of the above steps will help.  Doing all of them at once, I hope, will speed up the healing.  I've read that it takes Celiac patients anywhere from 6 months to 2 years to heal their gut but I've also read that most Celiac patients only cut out gluten and still eat corn, soy, and dairy, and that they might heal quicker without those other gut-damaging foods.

Good luck.

Parasites?

Not likely parasites.  This is similar to a reaction I have to eating corn and gluten--corn and gluten often cause skin irritation for Type O's, especially on the scalp, extremeties like the hands, and near the end of the gastrointestinal tract.  It's probably related to the hemmorhoids.

o+ I've got my Health back but how do make Amends to my Body

Thanks every one for your reply's. Most appreciated.  :)

I think eating out is the problem.  :-/

I just steam all the highly beneficial foods or have fresh spinach and have either tinned fish or grill steak. :D

All the health issues I had have cleared up :D The only thing I need to work on is weight still. I'm about 17 pounds or so overweight, although I have lost some. I can easily overdose on the Highly Beneficial's: Walnuts dried Figs and Pineapple juice.

Eye Site
I have been wearing glasses for a few years now and my eyes are starting to go. Would appreciate any advice on how to improve eye site.

Thanks, Lola.  I had been looking but had not found any reference from Dr. D about L-Glutamine.  It's good to know that it is good for carb cravings and good for Type O's; he did say that it is NOT good for Type A's or Type B's (and presumably Type ABs as well).  Perhaps that's why he does not put it in his supplements--because it only benefits one blood type.
