So lowering our fat intake is better for our gut and cancer susceptibility, but how do we feed our brains?  Fish oils?

(P.S.  Your picture on the n=1 blog is great.  Also, when I told Rob the name of the blog, he cracked up.  He chuckled, chortled, guffawed, and otherwise expressed amusement for an unreasonably long time. ;))

This is very interesting reading material for me as I try to understand what is best for my Type A husband. He repeatedly crave for fat food as he was brought up on steaks and french fries. It is extremely hard to make him eat a salad. But if you have a steak on the table he'd gobble it up in no time. Sometimes I'd offer him compliant meat (he being a nonnie can take more) such as goose, chicken, turkey and even NZ lamb. He also would eat sardines but only the Portuguese type in tomato sauce--alas, our supermarket seems to have stopped importing them totally. I wish he would eat more fatty fish like salmon and tuna, which are beneficial for him. But because of his upbringing (living some years in Greenland where it smelled of salmon all over the place), he's had enough of salmon and can't even stand the smell.

Anyhow, Dr D, I'd like to read more about Type A2--the cross between A and O. I have read that some Scandinavians belong to this type. Also, don't Scandinavians have more lactose, thus allowing them to digest milk/dairy products even if they are Type A's? My husband, being a Viking  ;D, *seems* to digest dairy and meat alright. If possible, I'd like to have him take a test to check if he is indeed an A2. If so, then we can end this struggle of me trying to make him follow a strict Type A diet.

I would separate OIL from fats.. !   ???? Oil is OK yes?  

I use one stick of butter every 2 month.. olive oil all other times.. I put olive oil in a spray bottle .. makes smaller portions for lets say 2 eggs.. a table spoon oil for all meals.

Goldie where is the ghee in your diet? loose the butter and make some ghee, it will increase your health rather then deplete it.

Yes.

Typically people refer to a fat as oil if it is liquid at room temperature, but it is still fat even if we call it an oil.

I would stick to lamb, mutton, and rabbit actually... would not recommend beef unless there is no alternative.

Ruthiegirl, that's an interesting suggestion! I should try to measure my husband to see what genotype he is. I always thought he was a warrior because of his personality ;D

I don't know Ribbit. I have not studied much about the characteristics of the Warrior genotype, actually. I just took the word by face value  :P My husband would not give up something he believes in/cave in to someone without putting up a real good fight! That's all there is to it  ;D

Lola, I just took a quick look at the monogram. Seems to me that my hubby fits into the Explorer profile, except that he does not have dark hair and brown eyes... he has blond hair and green eyes. I have yet to measure him and look at his molar though. Funny that you've lived with someone for so long and don't know about those little details   :B ::) ;D LOL!

I bought the fish oil from NAP for Hunters and it has helped tremendously to curve my cravings for fat.  I'll crave stuff like massive amounts of butter or potato chips and French fries.  Even eating lots of meat did not help the craving.

It may give him some lamb if he is an A that does Ok on more meat, but never beef. :)

Makes sense!  Your body was asking for what it needed, but didn't know how to specify which fats.  ;)

OIL no I see oil as beneficial.. where I see fats as detrimental to the digestion ... calorie wise it is the same maybe but as far as using it to move things around oils help (ME) more then fats.. but then I eat very little fat..

ghee I use it but in such small amounts its hardly worth it.. I don't care for the flavor to much.. in the fridge it gets old, on the counter I hesitate.. BUT YES thanks for the reminder.. to try again.. I made my own and I bought.. both are the same..

I wonder is there something one could add to the flavor?  I can not imagine anyone eating it as a spread.. I wonder why my taste buds are so jumpy.. thanks for the conversation.. off to make ghee once more..

I use ghee as a spread on the Lundberg lightly salted rice cakes...

I wouldn't add anything to the ghee in the jar, as anything added to it will make it spoil rapidly..  

I add any compliant spices to whatever I am putting ghee in or on to make the flavor what I want...  I sometimes sprinkle cinnamon on my ghee/rice cake...  I spice vegetables and then put some ghee over them instead of butter...  I like the flavor much better than butter...
