I've read that non-secretors are at a greater risk for recurrent UTI's, bacteria urinary tract infections.

http://www.dadamo.com/program_advanced_secretor.htm

"At a very basic level, being able to secrete blood type into your saliva, mucus, etc. allows for an added degree of protection against the environment, particularly with respect to microorganisms and lectins."

Is that the explanation to why some people are more suspectible to get recurrent UTI's. What are your experiences of being non-secretors or secretors and how often do You get UTI's? I have had many UTI's, sometimes several times a year.

I am Le(a-b-) and do not know saliva secretor status but I wonder if one can draw a conclusion between having recurrent UTI's and not secreting ABH.

I don't get UTIs (as a general rule) anymore, since being on the Warrior diet.  My 7 y.o. AB (assumed nonnie) used to have chronic UTIs.  I was forever limiting fruit, limiting carbs, giving her D-Mannose and cranberry....and usually only getting it down to a dull roar.  I put her on the Explorer diet and she hasn't had one since.

drinking my water and compliance as well as maintaining my ecobalance in check has done wonders

I do not overdo carbs in any way....there lies my success, I am sure

I usually mix a teaspoonful of sodium bicarbonate, (baking soda), into a glass of water and drink every 3 hours. This stops the urine from burning, as it is an alkaloid that will neutralize the acid of the urine. Then I take "cranberry pills" instead of going to the doctor to get antibiotics. This usually helps me getting rid of the infection.

I didn't think of the possibility that carbs might feed the bacteria. I've recently read that sugar and carbs feed cancer.

how compliant are you when following your plan?

you do consider yourself a nonnie, in terms of carb, grain, sugar choices, no?

I believe you have a pattern right there to watch out for.

ever take deflect?

I am a non-secretor B and have a very sensitive bladder lining.  I need to make sure I empty my bladder often and also drink plenty of water throughout the day.  If I feel an irritation I take CranAid Tea or cranberries in any form which really helps.  I also keep an eye on my urine PH. If it gets too alkaline, bacteria love it.  Dampness and taking a bath just set up a bad environment for me so I avoid as much as possible.  Sad eh?  Whatever works for me.  My OBGYN prescribed me vaginal estriol cream for dryness and it has prevented UTI's for me considerably.

I'm a non-secretor and I rarely get UTIs (knock wood!).  I try to remember to drink fluids throughout the day.

Read here and see that nonnies have more UTI's.

Following your diet will help quite a bit but it will take time. Often bacteria levels in the GI tract are high and that sort of spills over into the rest of the body particularly the urinary tract.

Taking care of your GI tract will go a long way in helping get rid of UTI's. ( I mean long term)

Taking a blood type specific probiotic as well as some ara6 would be my suggestion.

here is  protocol for a health urinary tract that Dr. D recommends, it is only for 4 weeks. I suggest you give it a try of course along with dietary changes.

Non-secretor but no UTI's. Maybe Explorers get them more and they are often non-secretors...just surmisin'! :)

i used to be afflicted regularly, before BTD, even had a kidney infection from a really really bad one.

my nan gets them and i recommend cranberry juice or pills to her - they definitely work.

also, there is a link between sex :B and UTI - rec is to pee afterwards so bacteria do not have a chance to hang around in there!!
