Hi everyone. I started the blood type diet last Monday and I am down 5 pounds. I am hoping wheat has been a culprit in my chronic fight with asthma and allergies. I had an asthma attack 2 weeks ago and ended up at the clinic and they lectured me on taking steroids this and that. I need a new way. Not drugs and am hoping this diet helps.
I am also hoping to drop 10 more pounds and over all feel healthier. I have calorie counted for so long but couldn't seem to drop the pounds. Now I see it was the food choices not the calories themselves. I seem to always be fighting aches and pains and a foggy head daily as well so I am intrigued to see if that is helped some.. My fiance is also a blood type A like me so cooking us dinner is not too hard. He will add some cheese and extras on his meal but I am able to keep strict on mine. Also I have to add the exercise plan for the type A really amazed me. I could never figure out why when I bust my buns at the gym I always end up sick some how and really run down. I took it easier this last week and still worked out 4 days but took it easier and felt better overall.
I also have the Allergy book by the Dr. and have cut out olives and all cheeses to help with the asthma situation. Any asthma peeps out there to motivate me or have any advice? hehe  Anyway. Love the forum - everyone keep up the good work!  ;)

Good luck, and welcome to the forum!

If you fiance is an overall healty man, he doesn't really need to be as strict with his diet. For many people, being 90% compliant is enough. But for those of us already dealing with health issues, even trace amounts of avoids can sometimes cause problems.

Welcome!  I'm new to BTD as well.  I've been doing it seriously for the past week and a half or so.  I'm still feeling my way, trying to wean myself from caffeine now.  I also have problems with environmental allergies, foggy-headedness, and also headaches.  I do feel that I can breathe easier since avoiding wheat, but I'm still getting headaches, just not as bad thank goodness.  I have a feeling that we notice these immediate benefits, but I am expecting a little backlash (de-tox feelings) as I go forward.  I look forward to chatting with you and sharing our experiences.  :)

Hi and welcome to the forums!

As a fellow A who suffers from asthma/allergies as well as migraines and chronic fatigue, I completely hear where you're coming from with all this. I've noticed just staying mostly complaint does help me to feel better all the way around as far as all of those go. I haven't really pinpointed it to one specific thing, but just the whole diet in general!

So yeah, if you ever want someone to talk to who's got similar going on, feel free to hit me up any time! Once again welcome, and have fun! :)

I have been on the boards for a long time but the diet very little. Once again I'm getting on it because of my asthma and weight. Losing the wheat has been the biggest problem for me. I had ditched the dairy years ago. Now it's time to ditch the wheat as well. My asthma is getting worse and worse. I've always been a hater of doctors ( probably because I have a great constitution, didn't need them) and big Pharm. Going in the direction I have been they would have me in their grip in no time. Right now I am on Flovent (cortico steriod inhaler) and Singular ( one side effect depression/suicidal tendencies). I just started the diet again so I'm sure in time I can ditch these two prescriptions. It's going to be nice to watch our progress.

Hi Di13 and welcome!

I put my asthma into remission by eating right for my type. And I initially lost 40 lbs, which was just an added bonus! No more steroids, no more inhalers, no more wheezing or coughing, or not being able to catch my breath. My suggestion is to stick as close to compliant as possible for the first 6 months or so to let your body reset itself; after that, you may never want to go back to eating foods that made you sick!

It was so long ago, I honestly don't remember the specific chain of events regarding the steroids. I do remember that I just stopped taking them and found I didn't need them any more. After that, I only used my inhaler every month or so, then even more infrequently. I don't even bother to renew my prescription anymore for that because it's been so long since I've used it.

It's slowly coming back to me...I have a breath measurer (plastic) that I used to monitor the force of air coming out of my lungs, and I realized that even though I stopped taking my steroids, my lungs were staying the same, and then slowly getting stronger. I knew I didn't want to be taking the steroids for the rest of my life (this was back in 1995) and got acupuncture done weekly in addition to changing my diet. I think it was maybe 6 months of diet changes and acupuncture when I stopped the steroids. As I said, it was a long time ago. :D

I did accupunture for a while but had to stop because I couldn't afford it. A master at taichi did some accupressure on me because I had a bad cold and  it hurt so bad. I got sicker but attributed it to a healing crises.
