BTD Forums / Nonnie Clubhouse / Diabetes/Alzheimer connection x10 at 25 year old

It seems that now the people with a propensity for diabetes also have the following issues to consider..
the numbers tested are not only important for diabetes levels, but having higher sugar levels will also increase the propensity for Alzheimer's. Incremental in number / 10 times more likely.. and depending on the age, by 10% more for each of the higher sustained numbers.. (my listening numbers)
SO where we have the diabetes book to follow, maybe that is not even the issue for those GENO TYPES that have Diabetes in their future..Alzheimers is! Like young people who measure as Gatherers should be much more willing to look at diabetes factors MUCH EARLIER.. decades earlier..
Like looking at their grandparents and great-grandparents and superimposing their diabetes and Alzheimers issues in the young will make a big difference...
When I was young I focused on cancer as that was my moms history.. instead I should have looked at my father.. or his parents.. sorry to say, I lived 3000 ,iles away and did not see them get sick, nor EVER thought about that side of the family HISTORY!!!!
So this is a thread where I would test all children at 18 for genetics and if they are PRONE to diabetes then assume that they will get it .. the question is only when!!!
The foods available to each of the BTD/GENO susceptible groups are wide and far enough so that 18 year olds would not have to feel deprived as they would not have to be TOOOOO strict.. but every bit of understanding and learning about food and even testing early in life every birthday would not hurt..
Another test should be made every time they get sick, as that is a time the sugar numbers hows up years earlier with a good indicator of status and propensity for later..
I would have been willing to make a difference even 15 years ago at the beginning of BTD but even then no one realllllly advised how assuredly I could count on becoming diabetic even with BTD and later develope Alzheimers!..
I know that BTD pushed out diabetes for some years, but never the less I was NEVER made aware.. as much as I should have..THAT it was INEVITABLE..... AND NOT MY FAULT!!!!!!!!
AFTER ALL I had given up all sorts of carbs, dairy and grains and many sweets 30 years ago.. THINKING that that made a difference or at least would make a difference later WEIGHT-WISE... WELL time has past AND it seemingly was NOT enough!!
When diabetes is in your future, please heed what I am saying above and think of Alzheimers too..
I have many times explained that I have done the best I knew and as much as anyone for over 30 years.. gladly having removed many many kinds of foods that would have hurt me much more.. BUT It's not about just doing that..
MAYBE it would really be beneficial to us who now have Diabetes, that WE ALSO strengthen our ability to prevent ALZHEIMERS... why wait until we have it... PREVENTION is the operative word NOW..
The Cost of Alzheimer's is way to great for us, not to look at the dire prognosis either now or later.. the guarantee that we will get ALZHEIMERS is as much assured as was diabetes years ago predicted by BTD for diabetes and NOW in Gathers and other GENO types.
Being Gatherer now means DIABETES prevention NOW to prevent ALZHEIMERS later.. It's seemingly nearly unavoidable.. but PREVENTABLE for years if we FACE IT NOW! doing that which we need to do.. including NAP supplements to help us along the way! THIS has to BECOME a long time, long term plan..
Reducing damaging foods is one thing.. but understanding even the influences of healthy foods like fruits (even without grains, nor avoid dairy) is not enough.. we need to become much more PROACTIVE and see diabetes as just one more sign of how we perceive the world of foods.. IT'S dangerous territory.. and we need to learn...and learn now. 8)
I wish I had KNOWN this YEARS ago.. but now that science is telling us more about this, WE can make a difference.. in us and in the next generations.. 3 generations going either way!

YES YES YES Lola LOL and thanks for every word you typeLOL
>>> and at least read the BTD book on AGING where the SUPS listed are all for better brain functions later in life, starting now by preventing strokes and permanent brain damage...
The BTD CARDIO book is equally important with the emphasis on specific sups to protect our blood vessels right now!

I too understand that diabetes and also only too much sugar in the brain can prepare Alzheimer's disease. I am still healthy and nearly thin (one inch too much on my waist alas) but on my mother side 3 Alzheimer cases in her cousins. On my father side grandma and her mother diabetic. This grandma of me lived perfectly 80 years old and declined till 87 years old without abusing sugar and sweets as her mother and using wheat daily (A sec ?). I add I never cook cakes or pastries, as my mother. We had them for birthdays, Christmas, Easter or with guests and very very seldom.
Simple carbos and sugars to limit drastically also if I am thin and also the allowed ones?

Patients with type 2 diabetes generally are put on a 1500-1800 calorie diet per day to promote weight loss and then the maintenance of ideal body weight. However, this may vary depending on the person's age, sex, activity level, current weight and body style. More obese individuals may need more calories initially until their weight is less. This is because it takes more calories to maintain a larger body and a 1600 calorie diet for them may promote weight loss that is too fast to be healthy.
Men have more muscle mass in general and therefore may require more calories. Muscle burns more calories per hour than fat. (Thus also one reason to regularly exercise and build up muscle!) Also, people whose activity level is low will have less daily caloric needs.
Generally, carbohydrates should make up about 50% of the daily calories (with the accepted range 40%-60%). In general, lower carbohydrate intake is associated with lower sugar levels in the blood. However the benefits of this can be cancelled out by the problems associated with a higher fat diet taken in to compensate for the lower amount of carbohydrates. This problem can be improved by substituting monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats for saturated fats.

BUT with BTD, I basically eat 900 calories in lean meat protein and nuts, (never count them) with green vegetables. No dairy, no starches and no direct sugars other then fruit or berries. At the end of the day this allows me as much as I wish to eat with ease..
Counting carbs in my case to stay under 60 are good days, if I go over it just a bit, no big issue.
and I see myself doing GREAT.. my numbers should prove me right.
WHAT I will do after I get swami is to add the list of sups recommended. I feel that to be important even if I have to pay for it out of pocket. I feel secure eating in this way having choices in foods and can stay within the Super/ BENEFICIALS as I have done for years. with Swami I might loose some extra pounds and learn new habitual eating protocols.
I am certain that (FOR ME O NON) this is as it should be, making much more sense then the above which would include all sorts of AVOIDS.. I am sort of content with my choices in foods as it seems a much healthier way of feeding my brain (without avoid filler foods) but with valuable minerals and vitamins and taste things as well.
I might be able to spread the choice of carbs over different meals at different time frames, so as to stabilize the sugar load- w'll see. I am going to be happy to see how Swami will advise me.. I hope it is along these lines.
PC your discussions have been very helpful as have all who came along my trip into this uncertain health territory. [/color] 8)
