Vegetable glycerine is listed as a diamond food for me. But how do I eat it? When I go online to search for it, it comes up as something to soothe the skin with. Also, if a product is derived from coconut, would it be OK for me (coconut oil is superfood for me but not coconut meat)?

Vegetable glycerine - food quality, is a liquid sweetener, somewhat similar to corn syrup.  Some is sold for beauty use, as well.  It is Neutral for all blood types per Typebase:  http://www.dadamo.com/typebase4/depictor5.pl?601

Thanks ABJoe. I didn't know it was sweet and can be used as a sweetener. That's great! So when I buy vegetable glycerine I should look for the food grade one then, not the one for beauty use, right?

I bake with it...add it to homemade applesauce to sweeten it...I sometimes mix 1/2 VG and 1/2 agave
or half VG and half honey or molasses or a mixture of a bunch of different sweeteners....  It makes baked good moist....Good in muffins and cookies..but I rarely use it to replace 100% of sugar.

My health food store sells VG made by NOW.

Glycerine is often used in low "net carb" products to retain moisture and sweetness. Glycerine is commonly used for this purpose in most protein bars so that the bars stay moist and chewy.

worth a try even though palm oil is on avoid for O - ??

could it be used in smoothies too?  how much a spoon or less and cost???

IT is used everywhere in prosecced anything.. under plam oil.. a new fad as it keeps things fresh forever.. (like Crisco - the only species that eats it are humans..)   ::)

This would be the most important news.. as I was ingesting something with palm oil in it.. but also OAT oil..

does anyone KNOW any place where to get ingestable Oat oil.. ???  I looked all over the internet. but no chance of it being food quality..

It could be on enormous break-throug discovery if I could figure out how to (even) make my own OAT oil..

ANY ideas?????

so also: is Vegetable Gycerine another name for PALM oil????

As little as I know, some vegetable glycerine is made from coconut oil.... so it probably isn't another name for palm oil.

Generally, when a rating is different between two different foods that come from the same source, the difference is due to what is being used versus what has been taken away...  In this case, if you start with an avoid oil, but take all but the glycerine away and it becomes a diamond, then it must be the oily components that are avoid while the sweet part is good for you...

This is my understanding but someone, please correct me if this is wrong...The actual food from which vegetable glycerin is made isn't being ingested..  Glycerin is chemically considered an alcohol.. but for food purposes, it is classed  in the USA as a carbohydrate by the Federal Food and Drug Administration and this is because it provides calories but is not a fat or a protein. So, because it's really not a fat, the fact that it came from an oil is rather a moot point.

Veg glycerine is the most wonderful sweetener! Unlike most other sweeteners, it has absolutely no flavor so it is nice for delicately flavored green tea, for example, and it's much easier to mix in than honey which gets really thick and settles to the bottom.
I've only used NOW brand which is food grade although it doesn't specify on the label - but does on the website. It will be found in the cosmetic section.

Veg Glycerine is also used in brewing, so can be bought in brewing supply shops too...
