BTD Forums  /  Eat Right 4 Your Type  /  Mozzarella cheese vs. String Cheese????

I am new to the BTD and this is my first post.  Hope I do it right!  I am a Type O and mozzarella cheese is listed as a neutral but string cheese is listed as an avoid.  But the string cheese is mozzarella cheese. This is confusing--does the form of the cheese make a difference?

Hi Wazzugal !
Please look at the ingredients; additives, preservatives and so on  and you'll agree that quality mozzarella is a cheese allowable for a good amount of people, string cheese is a heavy processed food aka avoid. E.U laws have also a sort of string cheese allowed for pizza and called mozzarella without any good right made from milk powder. It is a shame and a plot against our health.
To preserve some gastronomic tradition could protect our food !

You have to read the packages.  Some brands of shredded cheese & string cheese have avoids in them or hidden corn-derived products.  I notice the difference right away.  When my son didn’t have time to go to Whole Foods but went to Trader Joes I had a reaction after eating it.  When I eat corn products my face gets puff & my sinus’s stuff up.  You can find good ones even at regular grocery stores, but become a label reader.  Now, if my son goes to TJ then he picks up a bulk mozzarella hunk for me which I have to shred myself, if I so desire.

Thanks for your help everyone.  I have noticed such a change just eliminating wheat and gluten from my diet but I am persevering to follow all aspects of the BTD way of eating.  I have so very many health problems as well as weight issue--60 yrs old, about 80lbs overweight, I have type II diabetes, HBP, HChol, HTRYG, Reflux, allergies, rhumatoid arthritis, sleep apnea, Low Thyroid.....  I take medications for all of these and can't help but think that the 10 or 12 prescriptions I take effect my ability to lose weight.  I have read the posts that talk about secretor/non-secretor; hunter, etc. SWAMI, and all these more complicated things but right now I just want to effectively manage the basic BTD and see what differences take place. Any and all help is welcome!!!! ??)

I always wondered this too.  Because if you buy good string cheese, it's just mozzarella and cultures and what not and I saw that string cheese was avoid  on my list.  I'm thinking, it's just mozzarella.  But I guess there may be some bad stuff out there, eh?

I reckon they would actually affect your ability to do a lot of things - maybe even function normally... ??) :-/ Goodluck with it all...

I have never in my life seen string cheese with any "weird" additives listed on the packaging- it's usually just mozzarella cheese. I've certainly seen shredded cheeses with additives, and "american" cheese with junk, but IME, string cheese is just mozzarella cheese in wasteful, overpriced, packaging.

Then again, I don't actually  buy the stuff because it's 3-4 times the price of mozzarella in a block, and DS is quite happy eating chunks of mozzarella that I (or he) cut up. So it's possible that I simply haven't noticed the packaging.

I travel lots for work and string cheese is convenient to carry.   That’s why I read the label carefully.  Not all brands are equal.
