My wife and I have another bet.

Her goal: loose 20 lbs.   Her inital weight: state secret.

My goal: loose 30 lbs.   My inital weight: 339.4 lbs

She has her Swami.  I have promised to bake the most beneficial bread possible bread once for her to try, and as often as she wants it afterwards.  Anything that she wants to help her achieve her goal, in line with Dr. D' Adamo's advice, will be hers.

Even with all this, she has No Chance.    ;D

It's a no-loose proposition for me.  If no matter who wins the bet, my point about the value of the whole dietary system will be vindicated.  The faster the winner achieves the goal, the better example of dietary success.

Munchkin was telling me about how his attitude towards his avoids has changed, when I realized that mine has as well.  I took my family to a Dairy Queen to celebrate a milestone in my son's maturation.  Everyone else had some corn syrup laden dessert.  I had left my mug of green tea in the car.  It would have been a good example of bad manners to the kids to bring it into the restaurant.  The thought of eating anything in that Ice-cream-and-burger palace did not enter my mind.

I might be in danger of appreciating what Victoria's talk about her change of attitude.   ;)

This diet has changed my attitude to food.  And, yes, this has been a long time in the making!   :)

Can't wait to hear the results.  Tell your wife.. "You Go Girl"
And it is time to think of a new tradition to celebrate milestones in your family.. rather then food.

Way to motivate yourself and your wife!
Baker and mathematician - you're very handy.

Well done resisting temptation at dairy queen, though I wonder if they might have had a frozen blueberry yogurt or something that you could have had.  Though probably sickly sweet now you're used to natural flavours.  :P

Non-food treats may be the best though, like Andrea said.  What about family outings to go outdoor bbq or picnic at the park and play sport, or go bowling, movies, play mini-golf, play at indoor play centre (though don't eat the food there either :P).  Something fun and memorable.   We recently went to the zoo (with a packed picnic lunch) and I think I enjoyed it more than DD.  Loved seeing a bear eating and playing with it's food very relaxed with us around.  We were relaxed because there was a big barrier between us and it too.  :)

The forfeits are:

She wins: We sign up to play a team sport.  (So she can try to beat me again, no doubt)

I win:       I get subscription for a publication that I like.  (So I can win that argument)

The bet was her idea.  The youngest of four sisters never lacks for competitive drive.

No temptation to fight, Symbi.  I was just waiting to get back to the green tea that I made myself leave in the car.  It may seem impossible to you.  I assure you that Victoria has been "there" for a long time, and that Munchkin and I have just arrived and are getting used to it.

I am hoping that as my energy improves that I can sustain seventeen-hour active days, as I did in my twenties.

Ah...good point and funny too!  Truth is my A body can't do anything but contemplate its navel for 17 hours at a stretch.  LOL.

You and your wife have a great bet going there and you are so romantic for making her favorite bread.  Go PC!

Made me laugh too!! But shouldn't it be "...thou art not an O..."

And Lori I guess you could just be grateful you can actually see your navel ;D Some people might not be able to :D

Sounds like fun whether you or her win, it's a win win situation!

I am well versed with temptation, having lost 20kg in the last 2 years on the BTD (in a family on the whole that bad mouth it and DH who is anti).  Half way through that cured acid reflux with erosion over six months of strict diet (bought on by a coughing fit) that severely limited what I could eat (really missed green tea at that time).  Also DH smokes and I'm an ex-smoker  ::).  Family parties are full of food I can't eat so I take my own.

The thing with temptation is, IMHO there is a human limit to willpower and determination (in me anyway!).  So to reduce the amount of temptation is a good idea.  Too much resisting may make people feel like they are deprived.  Hence, the need for healthy treats sometimes and rewards along the way (whether food or not - your rewards are great!)

I do believe you weren't tempted, like I say the tastebuds change when you enjoy natural foods.  Like for example, with me, MSG flavours don't taste as good as they used to, e.g. in stock cubes.  A nice stock with vegetables is much more delicate and better (and healthier) flavour once you get used to it and the cooking!

Keep up the good work, we're rooting for you both!
