Well - I have just got my secretor status results through the post and I am a NON - secretor! I just knew it! Had better go back and get reading my LR4YT again! Had an inkling when I had some scallops the other day and felt awful - ok for secretors - bad for nons!

Any tips for being a nonnie please?

Thanks  ??)

Hiya Mrs G and welcome to the exclusive world of nonnie-hood!!

I think my main piece of advice would be to follow the nonnie diet closely, as I'm sure you would anyway.  We nonnies need to be even more strict than our secreting bretheren in my experience.  Do this and you'll find yourself not getting common colds and viruses that seem to afflict everyone else.  Being a nonnie rocks in IMHO (dance)!!

Oh, and now you should check out the nonnie clubhouse:

and here's a couple of threads you might find useful:

Welcome again to the nonnie club!!

Mrs. G - I'm just getting used to it myself, but coming around and almost
feeling a little "special" after a week of great support from this forum.
You'll get tons of advice!

Yes, I know - it is great here - I wish I had been aware of this a long time ago. Pushing through the detoxing as I know this is the way to go. The nonnie business explains a lot! All exciting stuff!

Ok just donít get scared by what you read.  :o Us nonnies are survivors.  We let those virus come in and then we beat the blank out of them.  :P  We clot up faster so if you get cut, youíre a healer. :D

It is always best to know what youíre up against and then youíre better prepared to handle it.

The doctors would come up with all kinds of excuses for frequent urinary infections while prescribing medicine.  Well, now I understand Iím more susceptible to them so I take D-mannose when needed.  Thatís the active ingredient in cranberries.  BTW I rarely need to take it anymore.  If I get an infection, I take Bee propolis which is a natural antibiotic.  Antibiotics reduce the good bacteria along with the bad.  So I eat yogurt and take D-mannose.

Welcome to the Nonnie Clubhouse (clap)(dance)(shrug)(woot)

Hey there, Mrs G!   ;D  Knowledge is power.   ;)  Dr. D has given us this entire program to make our own constitutions work for us, rather than against us.  So, it's all good.

I followed the B Secretor food list for more than a year, just because I assumed that I must be part of the majority.   ::)  :-)  Anyway, it was not time lost, because I was getting my "sea legs".  By the time I got my nonnie status, I had things in perspective, and I was really primed to dive right in.  10 years on the Non-secretor diet has been one of the best times of my life.

I've posted this many times on the Forum:  If I had been a secretor, I really don't know if I would have been able to be as focused and consistent as I am.  I'm not that self-disciplined, but I've followed this diet 100% because I am convinced that as a non secretor, I don't have the lee way to be careless.  It has paid off in a big way!  My health has responded beautifully to this wonderful approach to food.  And now, 2 years into the Genotype program has been even better.

Just trust the program and make it your own.   :K)

TY - Just taking a step at a time at the moment. All good though, bar the detoxing! Thanks

I was shocked to find out I was a nonnie as I am generally very healthy.  I rarely get sick and I am a nurse and mom and therefore contantly exposed to stuff.  I think my biggest hurdle being a nonnie has been the sugar, but that was why I started the diet in the first place was because I knew I had such sugar issues.  Well, it's been about 6 weeks now on the diet and I've followed it very closely, and I'm finally feeling "sugar detoxed".  In other words, I don't crave like I used to, especially when I eat something sweet.  When I started the diet, I noticed that rice cakes made me crave bad stuff (which I heard from many others here too).  However, now, that doesn't happen...they just fill me up and I move on.

I find that I'm much less "obsessed" with food.....I don't always feel the need to be munching on something.  The "emotional" eating had tapered.  I even was able to have some 85% dark chocolate today without feeling the need to eat the whole bar.  Before, eating once piece made me just crave it more.  Now I can just have a square and the small amount of sugar in the there doesn't set me off.  I'm feeling much more balanced.  I have found, thankfully, that I do not require 100 percent compliance either.  I would say I'm 90+ percent compliant and I've been just fine with that.  When I do have an avoid, it does not bother me.  It doesn't happen often because I really do want to get rid of these white lines on my fingers!  So I'm really excited to see how things are come summer and hope to see lots of improvement.

All in all, the nonnie diet has been fine for me.  I came into the diet mostly detoxed so I think that is why it has been easier for me.  Good luck with's worth it!  Welcome to nonnie world!
