Been very compliant to LR4YT and doing awesome...until...I made 2 different scrumptous dishes with soy...one was tempeh and the other was a soup with tofu.  I know I should have made them on different weeks so as not to go over soy amounts but what is done is done.  Anyway, after 2 1/2 days of my big old lunch being soy and also ingesting some soy milk in my coffee I noticed increase fatigue and depression.  I was all full of energy and such before these days and with each day it got worse.  

Yesterday I crashed and was so cold I had to get under a heating blanket for 2 hours on high to get my fingers back from being blue on the fingernails and hurting so bad (Raynauds I know).  I was craving bread and dairy and well...greasy things.  What's that all about?

Am I wrong in thinking it is the soy?  I guess I messed up the amounts and would do better with soy in the evening when I want to settle down?

Still waiting for secretor status.  It arrived on the 8th so hopefully  by the end of the week or early next week for results.

Any suggestions???

Some people have a sensitivity with the soy and their thyroid.   I actually thought that soy was affecting my thryoid..getting the same symptoms as you ..even hoarseness.  I had my thyroid checked a few weeks ago and it's normal.  Not even low normal. It's totally middle of the road..normal. I had a thyroid panel done.
The nurse said it's my weight that's causing the tiredness, fatigue and the hoarseness is from sinus.  So are you carrying around a lot of weight?  If not get your thyroid checked.. :)

Thanks Mayflowers.  No, I do have a thyroid problem and I am on synthroid (considering changing after what I've read here).  So  maybe that is it.

No...I do have about 15lbs to lose but I also have a good bit of muscle.  I'm about 5'7", 174lb and a size 12 in most clothes.  Medium boned with very broad shoulders and good proportions.  Sure, I could stand to lose some weight but it isn't a huge deal I think.  I do want to work on that but my fatigue and depression were the first things I wanted to attack.

Thanks for the info on soy and thyroid.  :)  That is probably part of the problem.

Oh and sleeping issues...that was the other thing.

Fatigue, depression and sleep issues were my biggest issues.  I have been taking some magnesium 2 hours before bed and making sure my dinner is light and I use a heating blanket to keep me warmer as I'm so cold and that has seemed to help quite a bit.

Sl, Try methyl 12.. three times a day to reset your cicadian rythmn.
Soy does things to us A's it may be cleaning things up  and you feel the effects too fast.

Thanks Andrea!  Ok...will do that!  I did buy the Methyl 12 actually but didn't start taking it yet as I wanted to see if the Mag by itself helped.  I think it does (also took care of morning constipation too...sorry for TMI).  Will add the other.

Didn't realize soy had so much power.  Will be more careful with it.

I feel I am soy sensitive. My thyroid is normal and my weight is close to normal. I do best on miso soup if I want to use soy regularly.  Tofu often has other ingredients that cause me problems. Fermented or sprouted soy is what I tolerate best.  I like the NAP LIve Cell A because it contains sprouted soy.

Tempeh is sprouted right?  I felt better after that meal.  Tofu is the one that threw me off.  I made a miso soup but I had the tofu in it.  I know not to boil the miso btw.  I loved the soup because I loaded it with bok choy and chard and onions but the tofu I think really messed me up.  Will do it without it next time because I just love that soup.  It doesn't need the tofu.  Will use it not as the main part of my meal but just as a cup of soup before my hearty salad.

Will look into the Live Cell A.

How is the protein powder?

Yes, I think it could be the soy.  Particularly the tofu.

Not all A's do well on soy, I believe.  My son is an A and he's allergic.

Soy is almost all GMO.  Get organic.

No tofu today and I feel so much better.  Brain is clear, belly seems flat and I"m not cold.  Yay!  Ok...yet another lesson learned.  So much to learn.  Thanks AB...now I know I'm not alone.

Tempeh fermented = good.  :)

Soy is chock-full of estrogen (attention all males and those who put their babies on soy formulas!).  I consummed it daily - soy milk, tofu - a few years back before I sought treatment for the same symptoms as you.  Actually, I began using it because it was advertised (nutrition and women's magazines) as being the perfect supplement to help one going through menopause because it contains estrogen.

Turns out I became so estrogen dominant from the soy (the only new addition to my diet) that it took finding an "alternative medicine" doctor, who is also very big on nutition, to straighten me out by prescribing pharmacy strength progesterone cream to balance out my hormones.  I suggest you google "estrogen dominance" and check out the symptoms.  

Also, the doctor told me that soy is very contradictive for those of us with thyroid disease.  Another baddie for thyroid issues is fluoride.  If your community puts it in your water, make sure you get a really good filter.  Thyroid disease is rampant these days and the rise of it has been tied to the fluoride.

Soy is NOT good, people.....even if it's a superfood for you, I stand by my personal experience.

If you have (or have been told you have) strong or dominant cheekbones, I would guess that you are an Explorer.

A practitioner will be able to confirm, but it sounds like you fit the Explorer woman bone structure.

Hey PC!  Yeah, I thought so too and truly expected to measure out Explorer.  When I carefully went over data and got my blood typed it seems I am a Warrior, or so it seems.  Thus, I've decided to stick to the BTD, wait for my secretor status to arrvie and then make an appointment at the clinic.  You made me feel better because I thought I was way off base for thinking Explorer when things turned Warrior.

Yes, I have strong cheekbones.  I'm look very much like good Russian/Ukrainian stock.  Both sets of grandparents are from this region.

I never heard that strong/dominant cheekbones signifies the Explorer GenoType in women. Interesting, though! Is that in the book?

I don't feel I have dominant cheekbones and it turns out I'm an Explorer. I have deep-set eyes. My face is on the flat side. In some ways, I appear Asian. When I was young a friend who had been to Korea said that I reminded him of people there. My face is long, but I'm not at all a Warrior. I measured as a Teacher, but my fingerprints indicated Explorer enough to override Teacher.

I'm glad you brought up the Live Cell A. I have sprouted soy on my SWAMI now so I got some. I took it last night. I was hoping it wouldn't end up interfering with my thyroid and make me cold. Well, that didn't happen! I even woke up weighing less. Soy lecithin granules are fine for me as well. I haven't tried the soybean meal yet.

Soy is a good food if you are type A*. Forget the phytate and rat thyroid stuff. By this I do not always mean that soy will make you FEEL good if you are type A. Some of the good things soy is doing may, in fact, not make you feel so great after you eat it, but it is good for you none the less. Here I am thinking of the effect of soy lectin on the blood and immune system.

Anyway, think of soy as a good detoxification medicine for type A. Detox is not always pleasant. If eating it daily is too much for your system right now, cut back -but eat some!

The Type A diet also has a large amount of other veggie-based proteins and a surprising amount of seafood (even some poultry) for a 'vegetarian diet'.

Unlike the O diet, which seems to have its milieu determined by great abundance, the 'A diathesis' may have been shaped more by scarcity. I might even conjecture that those early hunted-out type As must have been fighting off starvation by chewing on a lot of grass and acorns. This diet and resultant lowered resistance to disease was what probably killed off many of the local type O's.

Though not a diet of super nutrient density, the A Diet does tend to produce the best long term health scenario for type A in the simple sense of survival.

Personally, and I mean this respectfully, and I could also be wrong.  But I think that a blanket statement about all A's might not be completely true either.  The only thing I can point to is that on the BTD, coconut oil was an avoid for EVERYONE.  And remember, avoids were called poisons.  We know that isn't the case.

My only point is that I think things have been updated since 1999.   Now it may be that MOST A's do well on it.  But I don't buy the ALL A's thing.  Not everyone, including A's, process estrogen to the same degree.

This is partly due to Flouride, Chloride and Bromide flushing Iodine out of the body...  Make sure you get adequate iodine in your diet...  
Table salt usually advertises that it contains iodine, but because it is sodium chloride - it flushes more iodine out than it provides...

ABJoe,

Good advice, makes sense.  

However, there has been many endocrinology publications written advising against iodine products for people with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) because it can cause a flare-up of thyroiditis.  That's me.  

So I'm on the fence about it and wish Dr. D would explain why he recommends iodine (kelp, bladderwrack) as blanket advice for a healthy thyroid considering that some of us are Hashi people.  I've brought this up before so my apologies to all who are bored with the subject.  It's just that when it's YOUR disease you have a vested interest in clarifications.

And yes, Lola, I've read every link you've posted on the subject.  Still no answer on the specific issue of thyroiditis as opposed to typical hypothyroidism - which does indicate the advantages of taking iodine.

Same here.  That's why I started this thread.  It doesn't make sense to me.  On the other hand, it kept, spirulina, wakame and another one as superfoods.  So....  There is something about bladderwrack and kelp that is different from the others.  What it is, I don't know.
