There are many Non-secretors who have been seen their understanding of their health issues change and deepen, when Swami calculates a different Genotype.  Did Swami (either Xpress or a practitioner running Pro) surprise you?

It didn't change my GT at all but it sure changed my food lists a lot. For the better  ;)

It didn't change my GT either, but gave me a much wider range of foods.  It incorporated alot of the BTD foods too.  I like it much better than just the straight Gatherer food lists.

Yes, swami changed my GT to Explorer.  From the book I would have been Nomad.  Plus the book gave me the impression that you are definitly the GT the charts show you to be, regardless of whether the strength testing agreed with it or not.

Yes.....changed me from Explorer to Gatherer....yet gave me back most of my B- Nonnie foods.
Posted by: TJ, Wednesday, December 9, 2009, 12:01am; Reply: 5
Reading the descriptions in the book, I identified much more with the Nomad GT than with any other.  However, with the measurements and the advanced calculator I was a Gatherer.  The Gatherer diet certainly didn't fit my needs.  The vanilla Nomad diet wasn't right for me either.  Anyway, SWAMI identified me as a Nomad, and my diet is a combination of the Nomad and B-nonnie BTD.  I am satisfied thus far that the SWAMI version is an improvement over either the vanilla Nomad diet and the BTD.

"Vanilla Nomad" in this case would be the basic Nomad diet in the book.  ;)

Right on Heidi.  People in the open source software community (linux) often use the term "vanilla" to describe a software package that hasn't been modified from the original form. ;)

Lola - Yes, I've done SWAMI and the secreter test - confirmed nonnie.  SWAMI puts me at 39% Explorer according to my health history, measurements, etc.

It is what it is...I'm adjusting  ::)

It kept me as an Explorer but my food list changed quite a bit.  The majority of items shifted one way left or right some changed 2 ways over.  I am closer now to my former B nonnie diet than to the generic Explorer diet.

Well the strength testing should have been the final arbiter, if you were not narrowed to just one in the basic or intermediate calculators.

When I saw the first picture of you, Heidi I knew you are an Explorer!  Although there are differences, you remind me of both my sister and my mother (when I was a tyke).

Genotype calculations came out Gatherer, but I knew I was a Hunter, because I strength tested Hunter and the Gatherer profile didn't seem to fit.  Swami put me at around 54% Hunter.

I'm pleased to give a try here, even with venison and some polenta ::) :o....but I assure you I won't touch any wheat, macadamian nuts :-/,nor pumkinseeds, sunflowerseeds nor soy products... :P nor blackstrap molasse....and then the super joky is,,, I can have wheatfree senape...but then other wheatproducts are allowed....(funny)(funny)(funny)(wiseman) ::)(think) I know and remembered all kinds of wheat gave me inflammations, so far... bye....(hand)(shrug)(naughty)(goofy)......

Morning everyone!

I answered yes because the GTD book confirmed Teacher and I think Explorer or Nomad of which I paid little attention because Swami was enroute. But Swami said 56% Hunter which is what I really suspected.

It's interesting, we like titles don't we ??) It's like at banks, everyone is a VP!

But the reality is, "it is what it is" regardless of a title. The diet, supplements, exercise, and lifestyle are what we really need to focus on.

My book is at home, I'll have to look tonight. Regardless, strength testing did not show me to be a Hunter in the book by a lot... But as I mentioned Swami said Hunter by 56%

Ahh, I see. Going by strenght testing alone could get people in all kinds of trouble  ;)

I kind of skipped right over that part of the book when I was determining GT and went right to the measuring and tables in the back. Going back, just for fun, I test strongest for Explorer and Hunter comes in second.

I didn't know my secretor status when I first read the book so for a brief (10 minutes or less) time I though there was a chance I could be a Teacher. We had done my fingers incorrectly. Had I know my secretor status there would have been no doubt even with the incorrect measurment. (Secretor = Teacher, Non-secretor = Explorer with that set of measurments)

I went completely through the GTD book step by step and had an ND measure me. I recorded everything in the book, answered all the questions, etc. And still Hunter was second to lowest score...

At first I thought I was a hunter, then the measurements had me gatherer by a hair. The SWAMI has me as explorer, altho the diet seems more a blend of hunter & gatherer.  I read the 'tips of the day' & the descriptions have me a mix of hunter & gatherer more than explorer. Yeah, I am left-handed & can't tolerate caffeine, but I am amazingly hunter-gatherer in my needs & behavior.
The test you take to see if you should do BTD or GTD had me as GTD, but SWAMI has me as a blend, which is easier to eat. The few things I had to give up(or relegate to dot status)when doing the gatherer diet made it extremely difficult. It's amazing how these few foods-broccoli, beets, sweet potatoes, avocados, & maybe a few others-make my life so much easier!  I'm not compltely convinced that I'm a nonnie, but all points to it. I know there are demarcations in each GT & you must be only one of them, but I'm sure I am so close to all 3 O GTs. It would be nice to have SWAMI in person & get a Lewis blood test, but this is it for now.

Just confirmed it...

But I strength tested as Explorer too.

It is all so new I am still comparing foods to the previous incarnations as O Nonnie and Book Explorer.

Since I don't have genome stuff yet, and I am half N Euro and half C Euro (does anyone know what Hungarians are considered? being Finno-Ugric-- I think we aren't really C European)I am not sure what ethnicity to put.

My coloring is from the Danish half and bone structure from the Hungarian half.

I'm hoping that in the next publications of strength testing that it will be made clearer that we should be ignoring the columns that are relevant to blood types that cannot be ours. Our naturopath even fell into this mistake on first glance. :o

Lots of differences between explorer foods in book vs. explorer foods in Swami. I definitely prefer the swami explorer foods !! :D(dance)

GTD put me as hunter first, before I knew my secretor status. When I found out my secretor status (not that I am 100% certain, but as a Lewis double negative the chances of being a secretor are very slim!) GTD then typed me as explorer. It didn't seem a good fit in any way. However, Swami has made me a gatherer...and 6 weeks along, I am one happy little gatherer  ;D

I have never had much doubt that I am an Explorer, Snazzyshazz.

I did get a little obsessed about whether or not I am Lewis double negative near the end of last year, while not being willing to pay to know.  When I checked the LDN box in my Swami and looked for differences in my food lists, not one thing changed.  LDN and Explorer are not identical in my opinion, but it may be that being LDN "forces" you to be an Explorer. My wife is an A+ sec , and although she types as an Explorer, she has little of the quirky traits that I used to associate with the Explorer label.

All Explorers may be equal, but LDN Explorers may be more equal than the others.   :-/

I decided to remeasure my torso and leg lengths because when I did it, I did it myself.  My husband had just had surgery and I did not want to wait until he was out of the hospital.  I found a couple of interesting things when we did the re-measure.  (My legs are only about a 1/2 inch longer than my torso.)

#1 In the Advanced Calculator, there is a glitch if your torso and your legs are equal in length.  As a woman, O+ non-secretor with longer ring fingers and longer upper legs, you are an Explorer if you go to Torso longer or Equal Section.  If you go to the Legs Longer or Equal Section, woman, O+ non-secretory with longer ring fingers and longer upper legs, you are a Hunter.  So if your legs are equal in length to your torso and you are a woman, the book is confusing.  I am not sure if this issue arises in other instances

#2 When we re-measured, we used a tape measure meant for surveyors.  It is done in tenths instead of twelvths and you cannot measure down to say a 32nd of an inch, since it is meant for measuring large land areas.  When we used this, my torso measured longer than my legs, making me an Explorer.  I changed my SWAMI to reflect the new measurements The measurement for Torso/Leg length was time locked, so I couldn't change that, but I thought it was interesting that SWAMI told me it did not agree with my GT.

We re-measured again with a regular tape measure and I am once again a Hunter and my SWAMI is happy!

The statement regarding this at the top of the tables on pages 294 and 295 should be the same as on pages 296 and 297.  Per page 60, the tie always goes to the torso...

I was an Explorer on every strength test in the GTD book... but when I input my data into SWAMI I was 38% Gatherer.  My guess is SWAMI must have seen a good chunk of Hunter too and a tiny bit of explorer because there are parts of each I really identify with... just don't completely qualify for any of them.

Confusing!!! :-/

I'm a Warrior from Genotype and, of course, a 47% Explorer with SWAMI. Many food changes. I like being an Explorer! (smile) I am large-boned (Explorer), but not left handed. No Rh negative blood type, but I am a non-secretor! I am not brown-eyed or dark-haired, but I am a super-taster! And not many doctors have ever understood any problems I've had until I figured it out myself and told them - an Explorer challenge, for sure! So far, haven't had any liver or gallbladder problems, though. I hate coffee! Dr. D. has a lot to say about the Explorer having the propensity to be anemic, but I have never seen anything like that - more apt to be the opposite. So it is all very interesting, to say the least!

I was a teacher according to the GTD book & according to SWAMI without my secretor status entered. I just got my results back today & I'm a nonnie. After entering in non-secretor (& making sure to select "choose my genotype"), my percentage went down from 53% to 51%. White & whole wheat flour moved from neutral to avoid (bummer). White wine & seltzer water moved from avoid to neutral (yay!). I've still gotta go through any changes more closely, but that's what I saw at first glance. I'm so happy that I stayed a Teacher since the work out suggestions & foods work well for me.  :)

I seem to "fit" with the health challenges of both Explorers and Gatherers. SWAMI has me as Gatherer though, so I guess "blood sugar stability" is a higher priority than "detox" for me right now. I wonder if it will change if I ever lose these 25 pounds.

I definitely have more liver issues (and a lower alcohol tolerance) than my 17yo Explorer DD.

I was balancing between Hunter and Explorer and secretor status was one of the trigers. Since I've put in some more details into SWAMI (low platelet count, personality test) it puts me as an Explorer regardless secretor status. And this is interesting because according to Advanced Calculator I could be an Explorer only if Non-secretor, whereas with Secretor I'm 45% Explorer, Non-secretor 48%, 47% with no status.

If anybody came out 100% one genotype, or even as high as 90%, that person didn't really need SWAMI. He or she could have followed the lists in the book with great results.

I'm not entirely sure what Andrea entered into my SWAMI for nationality.  My ancestors come from Eastern Europe- Russia, Romania, and Poland. But since I got a SWAMI pro rather than a SWAMI XPress, I just gave my info to Andrea and she figured out what to enter into the computer.

Bekkki- I suppose you could try changing your nationality in SWAMI and see if it makes any significant differences in the end result. Play around with a few different options if none of them seem to be a "perfect fit."
