Greetings all,

Just wondering if anyone has any success stories on fighting depression after going on the BTD.  I personally feel tons better after about four weeks, however I was already pretty much on the diet (which is interesting in and of itself) and am doing many other things not related to diet (journaling, exercise, etc) so it's hard to pinpoint what exactly is helping the most.  Not that I'm complaining! :D

DH and I have both battled depression since we were kids.  Yes, it's helped tremendously.  Mostly for us it was the removal of wheat.  For DH it was also the removal of corn and soy.

BTW, I'm in Lakeview.  I had mixed feelings about the Olympics, but am glad that South America finally will get them.
Another regular BTDer is in Lombard.  There are a few other scattered around Illinois & Wisconsin.  You'll find us as you get more involved here! This is such an awesome forum.

For me, after getting on the diet, really stressful events seem to trigger a manic response, and after that a period of depression will follow.

I thought I was going thru a depression cycle recently, but started doing Reiki (on my myself, need to get a full body), and have noticed the depression does not seem to be bothering me, so much.

I think I need to do daily reiki treatments, though, and that should keep me balanced.

Surprisingly, I was in a real stressful work situation, and was even getting emotional because the boss was pointing out my short-comings regularly (read the thread about getting eye surgery and halogen lights "killing me"), and yet, I did not go into a depressive cycle.

I was doing tai chi practically everyday, which included some qigong exercises.

I was not able to do much reiki, though.

I've had a depression relapse the last few years related to dairy & wheat.  I've had wheat once a week the last 3 years & have had dairy daily the last 3 months.  It's hard because I know better..... Going off both very strictly for the summer & indefinitely.

For me, I know that certain foods can trigger depression, such as wheat, innapropriate dairy (I'm allowed small amounts of a few specific cheeses on my SWAMI) and too much sugar. Also, a lack of red meat sets me off. I discovered this about a year ago, when I was eating less meat to try and save money, and was asking on here for supplements to help me battle depression. On that thread, somebody suggested I save money on supplements and buy more meat instead.

It truly does make a difference. Even when money is tight (and it always is, but some months more than others) I now know that I need to budget in  red meat several times a week.

Exercise is another biggie- it's easy to "not exercise" when I'm depressed, and it's easy to "not exercise" when I'm feeling down physically for any reason, but I must exercise regularly to keep depression in check. I also need to be careful not to overdo things. It's a balancing act. But sometimes, even 1/4 mile walk will help me to feel more stable emotionally, although I aim for much more exercise than that.

Interesting, maybe a short burst of 7 mins of sunlight might be very therapeutic for you.  Too much is not good and too little is not good either but just a bit might help quite a bit.
Chicago can be pretty short on sunshine.
Of course all things work for good and the diet is a great way to get your cell function healthy.

best is to go off chemicals...better to go for aminoacids ;) strictamente onto BTD and yo're going to have success; Enada NADH is a good stabilizer as well  :D
all my clients do have success with and on BTD....& go for a good psychologue :D be honest with yourself and work on your *self* ;).... good food means good body and good soul ;) ;D....

Yes vitamin D from sunlight key. Also, protein from appropriate animal sources & right kind of fats.
