BTD Forums  /  SWAMI Xpress  /  SWAMI Xpress Check Boxes-Q for Dr. D
Posted by: Chelsie, Monday, August 31, 2009, 3:41am
I would LOVE to see a check box option on SWAMI Xpress that would take pregnancy into account. Is that possible to add? I've read Eat Right 4 Your Baby so I know there are foods on my BTD/GTD list that are listed as beneficials, but are major avoids during pregnancy. It'd be sooo nice to only have one list to look at   ;D

Also I was diagnosed w/Fibromyalgia years ago and it's mostly under control now, but I have a question...
One of the big changes I made in my diet under the direction of my naturopath was to eliminate foods in the nightshade family, as in tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant... and I see that tomatoes and eggplant are neutral on my list... If Hunters in general tend toward problems w/inflammation why would these foods not be in the avoid column?
I'm sure there's plenty I don't know about the chemical makeup of these things as well as their reaction in the body, and I for sure don't know all the ins and outs of SWAMI... Just wondered about these in particular and thought maybe we need a checkbox for Fibro too or maybe I just need SWAMI Pro lol   ;)
Thanks for all your hard work!!!   ;D

How did you answer these questions:

Have you been diagnosed with allergy or autoimmunity:
Do you have a history of low grade infections:
Have you been diagnosed with thyroid disease:
Have you been diagnosed with arthritis/ joint disease:
Do you have a history of environmental sensitivities:

Do you have a family history of arthritis/ joint disease:
Do you have a family history of thyroid/ endocrine disease
Do you have a family history of allergy or autoimmunity:

These and answers to other questions determine how a food is rated. Unless the responses to the questions asked indicate otherwise, the results are going to be a blend of GTD and BTD values. Several of the foods listed are black dots for hunterand neutral for nonsecretor. These could average to a neutral.  Foods will go up and down in value based on responses to questions. Not all SWAMI hunters would have ratings allowing them to eat these foods.

I believe I answered 'no' to all the Q's about myself that you listed, but maybe I should've answered yes to the autoimmunity one as some people do consider Fibro to be in that genre and I could've answered yes to the low grade infection one as I have a history of epstein-barr virus, but didn't even think of it when I was doing SWAMI b/c it's been soooo long since I had a ebv flare-up.  It's so tricky... maybe I'll go back in and change those values, if I can, and see what it does to my list.
In regard to the family history questions-arthritis is the only one out of the 3 that anyone has, and I answered yes to it when I filled it out.
Thanks for posting and getting me thinking  :)

Ok, so I did some research, and since it's been more than 10 years since my fibro diagnosis things seem to have solidified for the docs out there and I see that it is not considered a type of arthritis or an autoimmune disorder. Soooo is there something else I need to mark on SWAMI to take fibro into account or do I just forget about it and move on??
I'm confused...

can you be more specific?
fibro as in fibromyalgia or fibroids or?

the book on arthritis also deals with fibro, so yes, those go together...

Fibro-yes, I meant Fibromyalgia...
Our local library system does not have the Arthritis book, which is annoying but also strange seeing as how this area has been known as a big retirement community for a long time-go figure.  bah.
Anyone have the O type no-no's from the book?

Wheat is supposed to be a big no-no for fibromyalgia!
It's also one of the huge no-nos for Os.

Mrs. T-Yes, I noticed a HUGE difference in my body after I cut wheat out for good when I started GTD over a year ago.
Any other fibromyalgia no-no's I don't know about?

Lola-the book cannot be put on hold as no library in the entire county owns it; however a friend of mine just told me that in the past our library has been great about purchasing books that have been requested by patrons so I'll give that a whirl and see what they say.
