Avocados are listed under "Live foods", which lists a serving size as 1 Cup.  Given the high fat content, they aren't exactly the same as other veggies (well, it's actually a fruit) so should it still be that large a serving?  Don't get me wrong...I would happily eat a couple cups of guacamole a day ;D but I'm not sure that would be all that wise.

if on your list, the value given should be fine.....

being a non secretor O makes them very beneficial.....

I love avocados & lost them on SWAMI.
BTW, instead of starting another thread, I thought I'd ask what canned commercial mushrooms are called on SWAMI. I was eating them again as a gatherer, but am unsure of what they are called on SWAMI.   I suspect one of the dot categories! :(

Are they button mushrooms?  Button mushrooms are white/common mushrooms.

Another shocker! How did green beans/string beans become a dot for me when they are superfoods or <>s on all 3 O genotypes? They were a staple & I mixed them in place of starches in various things. Here we go again, but I'm so glad that many dots became neutrals.

I checked the GT book & all GTs have green/string beans as a <> or superfood, so how could they be dots on my SWAMI??  Hopefully, that is a typo!

1 cup of what, exactly?  

- 1 cup of avocado slices?

- 1 cup of avocado, cut in to 1 inch chunks?

- 1 cup of avocado diced in to tiny bits?

- 1 cup of guacamole, which involves smashing the fruit and compacting it down?

These are all going to have different caloric/fat values.

1 cup of avocado slices is going to yield a very different caloric content than 1 cup of avocado smashed for guacamole.

don t forget all are guidelines.....making it complicated or easy is up to each and everyone of us.....

I can smash a cup of avocado chunks into guacamole and have that,
or I can compact and pack a lot of crushed avocados to fit into my cup and stuff that for lunch....

common sense is advised.

I do not know if this relevant in your case (or any case for that matter).

Strings beans are high in a Lectin (PHA). If you needed to avoid this particular lectin or needed a diet low in lectins in general, string beans could be rated poorly.


Another possible issue is string beans can have significant pesticide residues.

In your SWAMI printout in the Further Customization (1) section (Page 7 on my report yours could be a page earlier or later in the report):

Are you emphasizing BTD or GTD values?

Are there Nutrients that are emphasized or deemphasized?

I am particularly interested in food ingredients that were strongly deemphasized.

Wow! I've been eating sooooo many green beans these past few years & enjoying them even more as I try to cut carbs. I usually feel good when eating them, in contrast to feeling bad if I overdo the dots.
I'll have to check those pages later. I think it slows the computer when I pull up the SWAMI(haven't printed it yet - need child assistance). It has given me back many favorite veggies as neutral again(like I thought it might)as well as regular rice going from dot to neutral!
Are string beans the same in lectin amount as regular green beans? I would think so. Actually, I think only string beans are listed. What about plain green beans?
(I suspect 'green beans' are actually a hybrid from string beans as we don't like to eat such stringy things.)

C#:  SWAMI gave me a mix of GTD & BTD, while I clearly tested GTD on that test that is given here somewhere. I think the cancer in the family & the need to lose a little weight made me GTD.
I suspected I was a hybrid & now can proudly say so!!  :)

Snap, string, green are all the same species are all the same species (Phaselolus Vulgaris).

In the states there is not a consistent pattern for how the names are used.

Snap means the beans snap when you break them.

String is for the string that runs along the side of the bean. Most varieties that you can get today have the thread bread out of them (or at least it is not very noticeable). People still call them String beans whether there is a noticeable string or not).

There are two entries in Typebase for Phaselolus Vulgaris one sounds as if it is for the yellow variety and the other for the green bean. But the description and heading is not definitive. Yellow (and green sometimes) are called wax beans in addition to string and snap. The yellow listing has a picture of beans that are green.

In Typebase both entries are neutral for type O.

In the GenoType Diet book. There are two entries for Phaselolus Vulgaris in the vegetable protein table.  One is "Green, String bean" this is a superfood for gathers. The other entry in the vegetable protein table is for snap beans which is neutral for gatherers (not displayed).

They are listed once in SWAMI, because Gumby requested the two separate listings be combined.

These are seperate entries with seperate values in swami, but are the same listing in the typebase.  I don't know the difference between a string bean and a snap bean...is there a difference or is this a listing error?  The string one is listed as "green, bean string"  and snaps are "snap beans" on my list.

I thought they were the same. The shock is that they are avoids where they are not avoids for any BT or GT.  I'll try to find a substitute!

;D  Yes it was a great day when it got fixed *lol*!  It was driving me nuts because both had different values for me....one a diamond and one a neutral.  I lucked out, Mrs T, they ended up all in the diamond category for me.  Oh happy day! 8)
