I suppose it doesn't matter now because this data is locked, but how are we to tell the difference between being a regular PROP taster and a supertaster?

The strip tastes pretty bitter to me and it seems to linger for a few minutes. I've tasted worse things before... ones that have made me fight the urge to gag. Is that how I'd know?

I would consider you a taster....
super tasters would gag at the taste of the strips!
they simply can t stand it.

it'll be interesting to see what I am.....I can taste the bitterness in broccoli and cruciferous vegetables, but I still enjoy them. WITH butter, please. the rich sweet butter and the bitter green stuff is a great combo.

Oh you will know a Supertaster, it is pretty funny (not to them) to see them react to the strip. I always make sure they have a glass of water nearby.

Yes, you will know if you are a supertaster.  Uncontrolled facial grimacing and entire body movements...yup, it's attractive I am sure! ;D  I tasted that stuff for HOURS after.  HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!!!

And for what it is worth, I love brocolli.  Not sure that is really a tell for taster status.  

Just remembering it has me shuddering again!  And it was ages ago that i did the test!

Okay, now I'm wondering about my own results:

The strip is indeed bitter and nasty, but I didn't gag or shudder...even tried it a second day to see if I got the same reactions...which I did.

The odd part, to me, was that both times I get a strange constricting/tingling sensation in my lower jaw and near the jaw hinge - sorta like drinking really really really dry wine or wine that hasn't aged enough which lingers. The taste also lingers for hours which is what Gumby (a super-taster) describes.

So which am I?

If you hate brewer's/nutritional yeast, would that mean you're a supertaster. I don't understand how people would put it on popcorn.

I'm a supertaster and I like nutritional yeast. ;D  It's a superfood!  Never tried it before it was a teacher superfood, but did not have trouble with it at all.

Interesting. That might be one food that makes me want to gag, although I haven't tried it in years, since I was first doing the A diet. And yeast is so good for us Teachers. . . .

I'd try it again if I was you. I have found that my preferences change over time and even more so and more quickly with changes in my diet.

Personally, I like brewer's yeast, but instead of on popcorn I put it in my almond milk. To me it makes it taste sorta like Grape-Nuts cereal.

I was reading the Teacher diet section in the book and thinking, yes I should try Brewer's yeast again--the only thing I'm not sure of is whether it is gluten free. Is there a brand that is best to use?

The brand I like is Lewis Labs brand. It's 100% pure brewer's yeast and is gluten and GMO free. It comes in a mostly white canister with black and gold "trim" on it. It's in the supplements section of my Whole Foods store and is about $16. The GT3 amount of 1 teaspoon/day means it's about 3 months worth...assuming you don't forget to take it.

I buy the Gayelord Hauser brand.  It's gluten free and looks like it is about 8 or 9 bucks US for a 14oz tin.  That's about what it costs in Canada too.  You can google the brands to see what they look like...makes it easier to spot in the store *lol*.

I use it with my egg.  I either sprinkle it on top of my egg on toast, or I mix it in with my egg and quinoa.  It adds a nice gentle flavour and isn't gritty or anything.  I am sure it would dissolve very well into a smoothie too, unlike lots of other powdered things that get gritty.  Grit is my undoing lol, can't stand anything gritty!

I've been wondering about the same thing. As a Hunter I'm supposed to be a supertaster whose description fits me to a T. I've never liked coffee, cannot even stand desserts that are coffee-flavoured (such as tiramisu), am a non smoker and alcohol grosses me out. (I kind of got used to the taste of wine by now though. Unfortunatly ;).) Neither do I like broccoli nor Brussel sprouts or other strong flavours such as celery or licorice. Don't even  get me started on blackstap molasses or marmite. I also detest overly sweet stuff such as meringue. Still, when I do the PROP test I only find it bitter (comparable to green tea which I can stand), but not as disgusting as under-cooked broccoli or black coffee. That would make me a slight taster, no?

Where did you get the Prop strips ( the GT kit?) from and where did you place it on your tongue? Middle of the tongue for a few seconds.

Yes, I got them from the GT kit. I did place them on the middle of the tongue and actually chew on them for like 10 seconds or so. My wife (also a Hunter) did have that disgusted look when she tried them. In a lot of ways we are very similar. She also detests alcohol (she is actually a tee totaler) as well as spinach and broccoli, but does like coffee and dark chocolate.

IMO if you're willing to do the test again you are probably  not a SuperTaster  ;D
I thought about doing it again just to make sure, but I just could not talk myself into it  :X Nasty nasty taste that lingered for hours. Water didn't help so after about 20 minutes I tried eating something and brushing my tongue. The food & brushing did take away the intense yuck, but it was still there for a long time.
When I tested the kids, one ran to the sink to try to spit it out the other just shrugged and said it wasn't that bad. DH could also taste it but didn't have much of a reaction and said that taste was gone after a few minutes.

Yes Heidi, it was like that for me too!  

I am a supertaster and my wife is a taster.  The description of hours is not any kind of exaggeration. Two hours after my test I still wanted to "spit the taste" out of my mouth.  The usual trick to removed spice from you tongue, suck on a cracker or piece of bread, just did not work.   ::)   :P   :(
