Does anyone else suffer from salt cravings?  What do you do about them?  

I'm not usually a big salt eater (more of a sugar addict) but the better I stick to the Hunter diet, the more salt I crave.  I desperately want chips, just to suck the salt off, but they make me hurt terribly, so they aren't worth it.  I've resorted to sucking on rock salt to keep from eating junk and I'm pretty sure that's not such a healthy thing to do on a regular basis.  Anyone got any better ideas?

It may be adrenal fatigue or zinc deficiency.

Try getting Celtic Sea Salt or Redmonds Real Salt (Utah Salt with Iodine).  Whenever, I crave salt I tear up some kale or collard greens and sprinkle it with salt and bake in oven for 10-15 minutes.  The "Kale and Collard Chips" come out crispy and salty. I also put a pinch of salt in my water with 1 full lemon. This quenches my thirst and helps my salt cravings.  I don't crave sugar but I do crave salt.

Yes, make sure it's sea salt.  Table salt won't do the trick, but sea salt should give you plenty of good minerals.  I do about 1 tsp. of sea salt in my water.  I used to have salt cravings as well, but they're under control thanks to the GTD.

I only use sea salt for cooking, but I can't stand either it or lemon in my water.  I've been sticking to the diamonds and SF's, but snacking on those, without quelling the craving, is just filling me with way too many calories, and I still want more.  Last week I roasted pumpking seeds with olive oil and sea salt, and ended up eating three cups (shelled) by the time the week was over!  Eek!  I tried an electrolyte drink once.  YUCK!!!

At least I'm not craving sugar any more :)

Now that I think about it, the rock salt is not nearly as satisfying as eating something with sea salt, even if it kills the craving.  And I've never burnt my tongue with sea salt  :)  

Does making collard green chips with the salt change the nasty taste?  

Is eating extra salt bad for you if you don't have other health problems?  Except for pernicious anemia and all the crazy nonnie sensitivities, I don't have any other health issues.

a sea-salt drink is nearly similar to a sort of an electrolyte  drink ;) ;D...yep...perhaps add some bt-recommended fruits....in your drink ;)

Make popcorn, Plucky.  Yes, you heard me right.  Warm up some rice cakes, then crumble them up into bite-sized pieces.  Drizzle with melted ghee and sprinkle with sea salt.

That does sound good!  I'll have to try it.  Never thought of eating rice cakes in place of popcorn.  

I just don't get why the only time I crave salt is when I'm eating really healthy.  The more fruits and veggies I eat, the more I want salt.  And the more I salivate, too.  Drives me nuts!

I love the roasted pumpkin seeds way too much    :)  Okay, to be honest, I like lots of food waaaay too much.   ;D

I drop 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt under my tongue, and savor the flavor and may go quite awhile before needing to meet that craving again.

My guess is that you're craving salt because there's something in the salt that your body actually needs- either the salt itself (sodium chloride) or some other minerals that are mixed in.

I say, go ahead and eat something salty if that's what your body needs right now! If you don't like the taste of salt or lemon in water, how about drinking broth as a beverage?

I just read last night that if you have trouble going to sleep, have a glass of water and then drop a bit of salt on your tongue. Just let it dissolve, don't rub it against the roof of your mouth. Supposed to "lull" you to sleep. Then again, what works for one may not for the next.  ;)
