I was wondering if anyone has heard this phrase before: "you either love avocados & hate soy, or love soy & hate avocados.  It was in reference to knowing if you're a secretor or not.  I have to order the kit & hope to soon, but wondered if there was any stock in that phrase.   Thanks.

not really....
I began btd 13 years ago, adding soy from time to time....
then had my secretor status checked and dropped the soy and added the avocado.....

now with gtd, don t even miss either one!!! lol

it s all in your mind.....heard this phrase before? ;)

I absolutely love, love, love avacados and guacamole, but sadly, they are a black dot for me.  Soy has always been ok, could take it or leave it- and go figure, it's a diamond food for me.

I love both Avocado and soy. The price of avocados often limits my consumption.

A lady at my health food store told me that phrase & said she was told that if you like avocados, but couldn't handle soy, you were a non-secretor, but if you did well on soy & didn't like avocados, you were a secretor.  Of course, as you can see by my signia that I'm referring to "O's".
So from that arose my question.

Oh, you were referring to just Os...cuz I was gonna say that I love both too, and both are superfoods for me.   :)

hubby is an O, and he likes both too though....

When someone gives advice like that you have reason to suspect that other help they offer might be questionable as well. It may have been well meaning and based on bad information from another source they trust or it could have been more irresponsible.

OK This is very strange. Ive never joined a Forum before. I've found it absolutely impossible to follow ERFYT. I'm A and have allergies to cherries, apricots, plums etc The only fruits Iver been able to eat are melons, bananas, oranges. I'm also allergic to soy but I thought that I would give it another try and wondered if I could spread avocado on rice cakes in the morning as I like to have something with my coffee. What to do?? I would really like to give this one full month just to see if it works. This is hardly a reply...

Welcome Kajune.. :D

I am an A as well.. allergies are often just intolerances to foods. But  as A's we have so many choices of things to eat that I am sure we can help you figure it out. You might want to cut out all fruit for awhile and concentrate on just vegetables. Then reintroduce them.


Are you eating a hearty A breakfast?

What are your symptoms that you get from these fruits?

Or even take a look at the Genotype diet?

Kajune many of us have food allegies and sensitivities this does not stop us from following the diet.

Often after we followed the diet for several months we find we can eat foods that we can eat some of the foods we were not able to eat before.

If you have difficulties following the blood type diet, this may be that you are a nonsecretor and should be following the nonsecretor diet.

Both rice cakes and avocados are okay for type As.

Avocados are an avoid for Type O unless you are a non-secretor.

Avocados are a black dot for me..I like them..I could take em' or leave em'.  Lets say I never crave avocados. I wouldn't care if I never had one again... I do love soy though.

I am an A+ teacher, secretor status unknown, and I love avacados and have learned to tolerate soy milk, Edamame, and recently tried tempeh--texture much better than tofu, but still not what I would call mouth watering delishes or anything.  I don't love or crave any soy and could do with out, but now trying to add them to my diet. I totally gag on tofu.

Some people are very much in tune with their bodies, crave foods that are good for them and don't really like foods that "don't make them feel good." Toddlers are pretty good about it (and will literally throw food on the floor or smush it into their hair rather than eat something they don't want.) But sometimes people get "addicted" to foods that are bad for them, and this screws up the system.

And many people are simply out of touch with their body's signs and can't trust their "gut feelings" about foods at all. Even if you're learning to listen, it's easy to get distracted by sugar or food additives or "naturally addicting" whole foods that aren't good for them.

If people were able to figure out their secretor statuses without lab tests, then these same individuals would be able to intuitively figure out their own perfect diet, and would never have a reason to pick up Dr.  D's books. They'd be healthy from "eating right for their type" without even trying!

I'm happy to say that I got my sister to drink soy milk at least. :)  She's not a vegetarian..by a long shot but she should be..being an A.

My unsubstantiated guess is that many of the wrinklies that live into their ninties and beyond have indeed discovered their 'food plan for their type' in the course of their lifetime.
I am watching my 20 month old grandchild carefully (he is either A or B) and note at the moment that he is stuck on kiwi fruit and strawberries.

My mother(A) ate beef all the time, which was wrong for her type(& helped kill her).
My husband(AB) & my grandma(B)craved what was right for their types with some variations.(Husband is still alive!) I was a mixed bag. Thankfully all that beef we were raised on was not bad for my sis & me(Os).  
It is funny that those who aren't forced to eat certain things may more easily 'eat right for their type' without realizing it!
BTW, I love avocados which became dots on GTD after being great for O-nonnies. :(
I never was too crazy about soy & it's a good thing, as I'm an O!
