I am just returning to this site after being gone for years. I have a question about the secretor/non secretor status and rh negative blood. I am 0 negative. If i am kissing an A or any other blood type and i'm a secretor and they are a secretor...why wouldn't kissing an A cause my body to start creating antibodies against the A kisser and eventually if we kiss long enough i'll end up killing the A blood type. Why doesn't this happen?

have you checked? Are you sure this isn't happening? 8)

The funny thing is that years ago whenever i kissed my husband...the A...i got sick the next day. So i quit kissing him. If i had continued kissing him..i might be dead now.

lol I have thought about the same thing.  If As make antibodies against Bs (cheese anyone?), my husband and I should have trouble getting pregnant, right?  I have a B husband and a B baby.  I have no trouble getting pregnant.

I'm an O neg. secretor and my ex is an AB+, don't know secretor status.  Come to think of it I was sick a lot during our marriage LOL.

You already have A and B antibodies against anything A,B,or AB. Thing is kissing is not the same thing as getting blood from an incompatible donor...thank goodness, incompatible red blood cells will cause an immediate reaction that is often life threatening. Other cells that carry ABO antigens do not cause an immediate life threatening reaction in the same way that the red blood cells do.

My boyfriend is an A blood type, but I suspect that he is a secretor. So I wonder if I get some dental benefits from kissing an A secretor. ;D

We definitely need Dr. D's input!

I have a more pressing problem at the moment. So i just started the diet a few days ago. Eating just about everything that is beneficial. Except for  a  Hershey bar everyday. I had organic steak tid bits for breakfast with sauted red peppers and onions cooked with a little tumeric. Shortly thereafter I got a pain in my stomach area. It comes and goes. Kind of sharp..and my stomach feels really hard. I don't think its incarcerated whatever. I did have canned white beans 3 days ago. I want to know if this is abnormal..or normal when you're eating so many beneficials. Is there a place on this site where it talks about problems that might occur as you begin this diet?

And i'm not really pulling anyone's leg. I just have a funny way of expressing myself. It was a serious question.

Are any of the beneficials brand new foods that your body is not accustomed to?  That can cause some adjustments as you get used to them.  Also there is the possibility of food combinations not being compatible, such as canned beans with fruits or sugar.

How long have you been eating that Hershey's bar everyday?   ;D

oh,....ummm...ah....one every day for eight years?  They never caused me  the kind of problems that eating bread or dairy has caused me.  Everytime i went through a period in my life where i ate bread..i gained weight and had digestion problems.  But i'd be willing to give the hersheys up. I find that a teaspoon of maple syrup on my ezekial cereal takes care of my sweet tooth. I almost never eat beans..so that might have been it..and i'm not used to red peppers either.

I know i'm on the wrong subject site but everyone seems to be everywhere.  I think of a new question just about every hour.

I flirted with the fit for life diet last summer...never mixing fruit with other foods..the idea being that the enzymes that break down fruit are different from the enzymes that break down other foods.  Something about acid foods and alkaline foods cancel each other out and then neither food gets digested properly. Does Dr. D address this anywhere? . I suppose i could  put acid and alkaline in the search area.

I was searching for information on Alzheimers(which my mother has) on this site and found something i had written in 1999. And i'm reading it and thinking...wow..thats just what i wanted to know years ago..and what a scare when i saw my own name at the top of the thread. Anyway, i'm back on the diet and  i pretty much have always given my mother protein and vegetables. She is 0 neg. and she had a passion for good bread her whole life. I would never give her potatos because she had arthritus in her fingers...and once i did for a while and her arthritus got worse.  And when i stopped the potatos..the fingers got better.

So..thanks for listening.

Also...until i learn my secretor status..i'm sticking with the foods that are beneficial for both types. Is there something about these genotypes which i know nothing about at the moment which could change the status of the foods that are supposedly beneficial?

As for guessing my secretor status..i saw that one post where there were a few characteristics of non-secretors. Does every non secretor snore? Do secretors not ever snore? Is there a list somewhere of characteristics of the secretors?

Thanks again.

there s lots that has been said throughout the forum.....
no specific listing cause we are all individuals .....
use the search feature ......enjoy your reading! ;)

get the GTD book from your local library, to get an idea of the possible changes in food values versus the different GTs.
also a good read would be the monographs for each GT in the BTD online store, as well as this on O basics

cozette,
You are very welcome on this Forum, with any and all questions, and there are a lot of people who enjoy supporting each other toward better health.  So I hope you will continue to keep sharing your journey with us.
The Genotype diet is a different approach, and is based on many factors, blood type being only one of them.  So it doesn't overlap with the bloodtype diet.  People generally choose one program or the other. Both are excellent, and you can take your time getting familiar with the genotype program, while still following the bloodtype diet.

It's close to impossible to know if you are a secretor or nonnie, although we all enjoy speculating a lot.  The only way to know for sure is the saliva test, and most of us feel that it is an investment that is well worth the effort, especially if you have a chronic health issue or major weight problem.

I think you have a good idea;  following the lists for both non and secretor.  You could also eliminate the avoids for both, if you want to be sure, until you get tested.

I snored when I was heavily toxic.  Once I removed most of the toxins from my diet, I stopped most of the snoring.  During times of very heavy detox, I still snore, but it is much less often and not as heavy as before.

Can you find a Hershey Dark chocolate? It has less sugar & more chocoalte which is OK for Os [& 2 of the 3 O genotypes, which you are more likely to be].
I have learned to eat plain unsweetened chocolate powder as a tea/coffee type drink - black chocolate as opposed to black coffee.
The food combinations work for me. I am stricter on the fruit one & find I shouldn't mix proteins(beans & meat, e.g.).
I can get by with rice & meat unless I eat tons of it.
Dr. D is not a big proponent of combos, but certainly lets us share our experiences.  I suspect that once our bodies balance with BTD/GTD, other issues will heal.
There are various levels of detox we may experience. Stay with us & it will get better. There's lots of wisdom & friendly support here!!

I'm a non-snoring nonnie.  I sleep fairly lightly and I actually wake myself up sniffling if I have a cold (which is very rare now, thanks to my fantastic diet).

cozzet, If you end up being a gatherer, chocolate is a Diamond Superfood.  Of course, that doesn't include the sugar!

But anyway, if you find that chocolate is hard for you to do without, you could improve your odds by switching brands.  Endangered Species Chocolate bars has a variety of dark chocolate with an extremely low sugar content.  It's the dark chocolate that does the good things, so at least you could improve upon the quality of chocolate as you gradually fine-tune your diet.

I'll go buy some of that chocolate in the morning.  Oh, it is morning.  Can this diet make you not want to sleep? I was looking at the gatherer and explorer types.  Gatherer can have a high BMI...i'm one pound away from being obese(i'm 160 and 5 foot 2). I'd say i've always been 10 to 30 pounds overweight my whole life..and isn't that the one that is usually rh negative?  Or is that the explorer? I'm extremely sensitve to medications...can hardly drink, can't smoke dope..most medications make me nauseous though I  wish i could do all those things. I ordered the book from the library. My middle finger is longest. My upper leg and my lower leg are the same length. I don't know what else is relevant. I'm more muscle..lee than flabby. More weight in stomach. Legs thinner. And i'm 64 and my hair is still black. And i can write backwards with my left hand while writing forward with my right hand. That has to mean something.

Very impressive, that handwriting ability!  Must have something to do with being able to be left and right-brain oriented at the same time.

I hope you like the chocolate!  But remember, I am not advocating eating avoid/toxins.  I consider total compliance to your eating program to be the best option for good health and normal weight.  However, if you are going to eat chocolate, go for the least harmful.  :-)  And maybe, watch your portions!   ;)  See if you can eat only enough so that you are getting your "chocolate fix", without overdoing it.

I bought the chocolate and its not engaging enough to overeat.  but its okay.

About green tea: in the local coop...green tea plain and green tea decaffeinated. If plain green tea is good for all types...and caffeine is bad for 0s...which tea would be better...its natural caffeinated state or its unnatural de.caffed state? Do we assume when the green tea is tested it is in its natural state?

I only did the finger test and i have more testosterone than estrogen. Does that make me more like a man? Is that why i can identify with a man's position more easily than a woman's side? Sarsaparilla mimics testosterone and it is good for 0. I had a tea made with sarsaparilla once and i raced two blocks in lickety split...like a race horse...and that after not running for 20 years. I never tried that again.

Every once in a while i drink a teaspoon of calcium with magnesium and D added. When i used to take the pill form..it gave me a stomach ache.  It is conceivable that my stomach ache the other day was from the calcium drink. I took a drink of that today. If i get another stomach ache...I would then surmise that was from the calcium drink.  Non-secretors have "less ability to absorb calcium"....may i then assume that i'm a non secretor?

I bought some "dulse" and it really smells like dead fish on the shore. Is there a way to eat this where you can hide the taste?

Okay...i'll stop thinking now.

I like making nori wraps with my lunch or shredding it into my salads....versatile! :)

What about fish that are good for you that are high in mercury..like walleye? Stay away from it? Looks like the best fish for 0 with low mercury is rainbow trout and ocean perch. And maybe pacific sole.

I'd like to take this time to explain why i stopped this diet in 1999. I had misunderstood or not read carefully enough about portions of meat for 0s and i was eating 16 ounces of meat a day. morning, noon and night. After 3 months i was so sluggish i just gave up on the whole thing. A few years later i read that it was 16 ounces a week.

Now this fish things is getting on my nerves. I just started eating all the beneficial fishes on the list and now i face the mercury problem. I just gave my mother a bunch of walleye and she has been coughing..though they might not be related..I don't think its a very good idea to give a food with loads of mercury to a person with dementia.  I can see the two of us ending up having nothing but seltzer water or soda water all day long. Though i wonder if that would be a good idea for me...a three day fast with nothing but seltzer or soda water. Any 0s ever tried that?
Posted by: Victoria, Sunday, December 7, 2008, 9:47pm; Reply: 36
I think this is in the same category of Dr. D suggesting that we aim for organic foods and chemical-free meats.  A food may be good for us, but a toxic exposure may contaminate the animal and create a different set of problems (even if the animal meat itself is good for us).  Contamination of food is not a genotype issue, but an environmental one.

I eat a lot of fish, but always try and avoid high levels of mercury.  There are brands of canned tuna, for example, that are tested to be very low in mercury.  Also, I get only wild salmon, caught in very clean waters.  It's worth making the effort to find the cleanest possible sources for the beneficial and superfoods that we eat. I was looking through the ask dr. d'adamo questions and found the following which applies to my original question in a fashion of sorts.
STUDY: Lewis antigens as a possible cause of sudden death of previously healthy adults and infants and of diseases and phenomena linked to tissue ischemia.

JOURNAL: Med Hypotheses 1997 Dec;49(6):525-7

AUTHORS: Grzeszczuk J

ABSTRACT: In persons with anti-Lewis antibodies, erythrocyte agglutination might take place during breathing of odors from secretors of Lewis antigens. The agglutinates occlude capillary vessels, increasing resistance to blood flow. This might lead to the sudden death of adults, sudden infant death syndrome or to diseases accompanied by tissue ischemia, such as migraine, glaucoma, epilepsy, etc.

COMMENTARY: This study proposes that some cases of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) may be the result of exposure of the non-secretor infant to Lewis antigens from the breath of secretor parents. The resulting immune reaction would then block the blood vessels leading to sudden death.

Non-secretors are almost always Lewis A positive/ Lewis B negative, whilst secretors are Lewis B positive/ Lewis A negative. Thus, Lewis B negative non-secretors can certainly produce antibodies to the secretions in the breath of Lewis B positive secretor parents. This hypothesis is not as far-fetched as it seems. Other studies have noted that the Lewis A antigen of non-secretors can serve as a point of attachment for strains of bacteria known to be implicated in the production of toxins known to result in SIDS like deaths (2,3)

The take home message? Secretor status may be something worth evaluating as a risk factor for SIDS. Sadly, I doubt any pediatric treatment facilities are currently doing this.

Maybe difficulties between couples can be traced to blood incompatibility.  i'm rh negative and i'm supposed to be able to give anyone blood but i can only receive the same blood. One of my best friends is a man 15 years younger than me. He lived with me for awhile and i thought...wow..he is so easy to live with. We were intimate for a while  and I never had any problems such as being irritated afterwards which was a common problem for me(irritated mucous membranes?). I just found out that he is O negative.  Thinking back over my past sweeties...i would say most of them irritated me physically, emotionally.....and probably mentally. I always thought i'm just not the easiest person to be with after awhile. Friendly, kind, generous, witty and then after awhile i'm irritated, brooding, distracted and just want to be alone. Maybe its the blood thing. I know that in India they think people should marry who are the same height not that that is a meaningful bit of information. I also know that it is quite common for As and Os to marry....I read somewhere..maybe here...that the Japenese Os want A spouses or if they are an A they want O spouses. Why, I don't know. From being on this diet for a month..there is only one thing that i know. One of the spouses has to stay home to cook. And the other has to go to work and make enough money to buy all the necessary foods. How a two person working family could ever have health is beyond me.  And maybe a maid to make ghee all day long. Speaking of ghee..i made some today and it turned a darker color...I don't know if i ruined it but after putting it on my food...i started just drinking it straight out of the container i had it in...and felt like i was privy to some secret of the gods. I think from now on...that will be my stock birthday gift for everyone I know.  I would like to go on a nothing but ghee diet...sort of like a fast...3 days on nothing but ghee.

As an aside...while googling rh negative i came across a conspiracy theory that rh negative blood type are descendents of the lizard people who came to this planet to control everyone.
Or, another one, that they are descendents of some of the lost tribes of  Israel.  Has anyone ever belonged to a club where only your blood type is allowed?  I think that would be cool. 4 or 8(secretor status included)clubs and after six months they would form a club that included all of them...and we'd film the whole thing and watch who gravitated towards who.  We could start a singles dating service based on blood types based on what we came up with.

okay...back to cooking.

I woke up this morning with a ghee hangover.

I have a friend who is most definately one type or another..i can't remember now..but i read all the vegetables that were diamonds for her. She has a blood clot in her lung and is on warfarin. She was not allowed to eat almost any of the diamond vegetables because they thinned the blood in some way. Now how far behind are lazy doctors that they know which foods can thin the blood but they in no way suggest to a person to prevent these issues by changing or adding things to their diet. Its all backwards.
