Now that I am 60 yrs. old, it is highly unlikely I will have any more children. Is it as important that I reset my genes as described in the book?
I am pretty compliant, but occasionally have some dots or avoids, sometimes to finish what is around the house.
In a couple of weeks or so, I may eat out, which is rare for me. There are very few veggies in restaurants & rare olive oil. How damaging will it be to have a meal of compliant meat, potatoes & a salad of some sort? How far back will that set the reset function?
How important is the reset at my age?
Of course I want to be healthy & apparently the GTD is much better than the BTD in my case. I don't see huge changes, but I am staying with it.

GTD or BTD will help us age gracefully..... ;)
how gracefully you want it, is entirely up to you.....
choosing wisely is already a step forward in regards to the SAD diet.

Hi,  Melissa J gave some indication in the thread: "we are getting close to black dot time"
She said eating a black dot sets her back a couple of weeks.

Eating out can be a problem. You might be lucky to get a decent salad with your steak and won't need to eat the potatoes to get full. Ask for a side of mushrooms and onions- that would be a Gatherer compliant dinner.

I don't think that age makes a difference- resetting your genes addresses a multitude of weak points that have nothing to do with the ability to bear children. What would the men do was it otherwise?  :)

It's not the ability to bear children - it's the passing along of genetic material, which I can't do as I'm a menopausal mama!

Has Dr. D ever had a patient that completely avoided every dot & avoid for over 3 months(except those on death's door)? That is almost impossible!!
I find it hard to believe that one dot would negate all the good work done. It probably doesn't put you back in square one, but it sets you back somewhat. But, how far - and do you have to start at the beginning again??
Today I had large amounts of diamonds, a little avoid, & now I am finishing up some organic brown rice flour, which actually is an avoid or dot as only basmati is allowed for gatherers.
Frustrating? Yes! But still it is exciting that I am in on a great dietetic revolution.

Hey, I've been pretty good about the black dots.  The only things I've had was squash like twice, pineapple once because I forgot, and cashews once.  I'd say that's pretty compliant.  I mean, it's not like I went and got a to-go cheeseburger from Wendy's (death in a box, anybody?).  Will my good genes be reversed because I ate pineapple, squash and cashews?  I hope not.  But when you compare to what I could have eaten......

Oh, yeah.  I forgot to post about the original subject.  I would guess that your genes aren't what you need to focus on right now, but feeling well and avoiding diseases.  Remember, the whole point of the BTD was to help us avoid developing the diseases common to our blood type.  If you're still following the diet, and you feel good, chances are you can avoid some of those diseases and possibly reverse them if they've already begun to develop in your body without you realizing it.

I thought that re-setting the genes by the diet would be a re-programming against the diseases that our genes are already programmed to occur as we age (for those of us who've already had our children)like for instance, alzheimer's, dementia, heart disease, cancer, stroke...things like that. ??

Mrs. T O+ I was thinking about that very same question earlier today. I came to the conclusion that it is not that important to reset my genes but it is important to do the best I can for this aging body. I plan to stick with GTD for as long as I possibly can. I have not lost any weight but I no longer have stomach problems and my skin is the best it has ever been. Must be doin' sumpin' right.  :D

Gee, I sure hope eating dots or avoids once in awhile would not put you back all the way to square one.  I believe that if our bodies are healthy that they can handle the occasional slip.  Iíve been eating in restaurants for a week and partying with friends.   I try to be compliant with what I order as a main dish.  Who knows what spices they contain?  I did slip a few times with bread and butter.  I also slipped with rum & coke.  The non-organic meat got to my son more than avoids.   We did find that wonderful buffalo place where you could see the herd grazing.  The sailfish row with quail eggs was totally compliant and delicious!

You know, typing here on the forum with the ice pack on my twisted knee made me forget about the pain for the 1st time since it happened this morning in my hotel room 400 miles from home.  What a therapeutic site this is!

Hope you feel better. Sometimes being on line is like watching TV. It gets your mind off pain, but doesn't dull your mind as much!!!!
I'm glad you can keep up with us even when out of town.
