Why has cinnamon's status changed from being an "avoid" for O nonnies, to now being a "superbeneficial" for O nonnies who are "hunters"?

I mean, despite the fact that I'm a short and, in recent years, stocky meso-endormorph (my middle finger and thumb don't easily touch when I circle them around my wrist), I am actually, by means of the advanced criteria in the GTD, a hunter, not a gatherer... I even have a strength of +15 on the hunter scale.

What should I do with regard to cinnamon which, apparently, has some real benefits for my metabolism?

Check it out for yourself.  If you have problems with it, eliminate it, if you don't...:D

I plan to trust Dr. D's research and proceed with the GTD, but just like when I started the BTD I will try to pay attention to any good or bad health changes that occur with the diet changes.

my guess: its been upgraded for gatherers too since it has been discovered to help insulin, or lower blood sugar, or something that is a boon.....which makes it worthwhile even though it may have some bad affect , perhaps very small, as well.

Sounds reasonable to me. I think the food classification is always about the balance of positives and negatives, compared to the disease risk for the blood type or now genotype. It is fun to try to figure out why a particular food is classified as it is.

Thanks, it's really a testament to Dr.D as to how many long time forum members are around.  I can come back after a long absence and still feel like home.

HI,  This is what I found out about my body's response to wrong food.  I noticed a bump behind my upper front teeth and I had happened to eat peanuts(I can't remember how long after the peanut eating).  I wondered if it was associated with a response to them.  So I watched what I eat the rest of the week and the bump went away within a day.  Then I ate peanuts again and you can guess it, there was a bump but not as big.  So no peanuts(and this was before finding BTD.)  Now when I have wrong foods I notice the roof of my mouth is slightly "padded".  Normally there is a ridge down the middle and some raised lines going from side to side behind the front teeth.  Right now it's only the left side and its very minuminal but since I've become sensitive to this reaction I have found that padding comes forward to behind my front teeth when I eat pizza - a no no for O non and also for Gatherer.  I've never heard anyone say anything about the roof of their mouth maybe everyone is laughing.  I thought this was a good place to share.

I get a 'puffy roof' sometimes too, also a raw one, when I eat things I shouldn't in quantity.  The soft tissues of my mouth are often a good indicator of how well I am eating. :)

Jumping in late on the cinnamon discussion, I remember reading something in GTD about the warming spices being good for our metabolisms.  Cinnamon has shown to be especially good for blood sugar issues.  I love it, had a hard time avoiding it over the holidays, and now I'm indulging in it everywhere I can think of.

The puffy roof isn't as weird as the scalp bumps I get (actually swollen lymph nodes, I believe) when I eat some foods.  I've never gotten a puffy roof, myself, as far as I know.

I have gotten a lump in the gum area on the outside of the teeth (inside the cheek) that usually seeps "salt water" and goes down after several days...  

This was pre-BTD, so it could have been due to any number of common avoids...

Same here, but it's not just avoids that do it.  Some nuts, raisins, honey....it's like the roof of my mouth swells just slightly.  But not every time I eat these foods.  Only sometimes, less and less over time, thankfully.  I get those little "salt water" blisters in my mouth for no apparent reason occasionally too.  They come up really fast, drain, then are gone.

Thank you for not making me feel nutty about the roof of my mouth's "padding".  I wonder if sinus could be part of reaction to wrong food?  Perhaps its in Dr D's original book where he talks about lectins and their impact on the bodies system.  I'm afraid to try too many of the new foods at one time in the Gatherer's list.  I looked at millet bread and it had wheat in it too.  I had manna bread and it said "whole Rye".  But then maybe I need to go to another "board" to ask about "whole rye" in manna bread.

Hi Molly, I'd noticed the same reaction to certain foods, so you're not alone  ;D

I'll try and make a note of which foods I've eaten next time it happens.

The roof of my mouth is sometimes bothered by things I eat and as someone mentioned, I do believe it's connected to sinus issue, for me.
Pre BTD, I used to get a bump under my 2nd toe. Hurt like heck and sometimes could hardly walk. All gone now too except if I cheat. I think sugar is the major culprit for many things w/ me.
Melissa, funny you should mention scalp bumps. Had those all the time prior BTD. Never, ever connected that to my diet. There were times that my scalp actually hurt as well. All gone now, except if I'm bad. It's so wonderful how we can discern the foods that are bad for us when we know how to watch.  ;D  Once again.... many, many thanks to Dr. D.  I really and truly believe w/o his knowledge and sharing it w/ all of us, I would probably not be around. I would still be eating all the junk, inflaming my system and w/ heart issues, not a good story. So it is w/ much gratitude that I continue on my BTD/GTD journey.

I read the other day that cinnamon also helps w/ cholesterol.

Yeah, scalp bumps.  I'd get them all along the edge of my hairline from ear to ear along my neck.  Sometimes up on my head too, always in the back.  Now they only come back if I eat potatoes or peppers (that ole nightshade allergy, I guess).

I took cinnamon yesterday and within a few hours I had a bloody nose and puffy sinuses.  It does feel like it's amping up my metabolism, but it also seems to be irritating my linings.

Hmmmm.  Food...and nosebleeds.  I've never thought about there being a correlation, but next time I have one I'll make a note of whether or not I ate anything unusual.  Thanks for the tip, Ron.

Interesting - thanks for sharing!

I'm really looking forward to having cinnamon again as I love it. I followed the O secretor and enjoyed it until I discovered I was a nonnie, now as a Gatherer it's back in again.

(Avocado's the opposite, avoid for O-secs, OK for O-nonnies, now black dot...  ::) )

Some foods make my mouth itch and swell too: apples and pears (black dot), hazelnuts (avoid) and some unidentified fish here in Asia.

I had a similar reaction to walnuts when used on top of salad.  Walnuts were a benny for blood type O.  But for Explorers, they're avoids.

To Ron-O-Non: Bleeding nose? That's intense, maybe you should be really careful with this.

I have been doing the BTD since September and the ONLY cheat I have indulged in is chicken chorizos from the organic, gluten free butcher at my local farmer's market. They contain hot pepper, cinnamin as well as cloves, black pepper, and rock salt. Delicious and no reactions so maybe I am a hunter too.

I haven't even been adding black pepper to my food at all- although I just read yesterday that it's alright if you grind it fresh. Maybe my one little noncompliance was truly inspired, because I am so addicted to those chicken chorizos that when the farmer sees me coming he'll hand me all of his stock! I am too happy to be embarrassed about it.

I think I'll head down to the local bookstore this week and "hunt" down a copy of that Genotype diet book for myself. (My ring fingers look way way longer than the index on both hands.)

No laughing here, Molly. I have had various problems with the roof of my mouth from time to time.  I haven't been as swift as you to explore these symptoms, but I will be more careful now about tracking the causes. It isn't often but sometimes mine feels swollen or "padded," as you said, and now and then it feels downright sore as in REALLY sore! Usually I'm not feeling my best when this happens, anyway, so I just blamed the mouth problem on the other feelings, and I was probably right too! Sometimes it is hard for me to figure out the difference between the way stress is affecting me and/or what I might be eating at the time.

This thread is about cinnamon, and I had been taking it for a while because there was some thought that it would lower cholesterol. I love it so it was no problem for me to add it to my diet but after a while it began to cause severe pain in my stomach. After learning more from the GTD about how a food might be irritating my stomach (but the irritation won't show up until later when I eat something else), makes me wonder now about what actually was causing the problem - it may not have been cinnamon at all. The connection between dairy products and wheat is fascinating to me too. What an interesting world this GTD has brought us into!!

from experience cinnamon always worked well for me and i was even disappointed when i saw it off the list... its good for insulin issues... back on the cinnamon- woohooo

Cinnamon's always been cool w/me too!  I was so happy when I read the GTD!   I like to put cinnamon & cocoa powder w/honey on bananas.. wow good.
