Being that nonnies are suggested to make a dietary shift from carbs to more proteins (especially in O-nonnies), would it be likely to see greater instances of kidney damage from a nonnie diet, because too much protein damages the kidneys?

High K intake is protective of the kidney...

I would recommend grass fed, if possible, and a healthy intake of beneficial vegetables.

not if you balance that protein intake with beneficial veggies! ;) and the proper amount of good water!

an important point....I got a kidney stone  after I started eating lots of beef, but I passed it and have had no further problems because it underscored the need to eat lots of vegetables and fruits to keep the system from getting too acidic. When we follow the O diet, we should follow it as prescribed, including all the fruits and minimizing the grains. (I think I was eatng eggs, meat, rice, spelt bread, and salad. I needed to eat kale, etc. ...I started eating a vegetable with every protein and no more trouble)

I should say that by that method, I eat hand over fist. Or rather, hand size portions work better for me. Although I do eat prodigous amounts of fruit and veggies as well. Just balance your meals, don't fret about fist-size or hand-size.

I have LR4YT. I've checked there and the recommendation is 2 "fists" daily (max 140 g x2), and this would be meat and fish together, of which 2/3 should be meat and 1/3 fish. On top I am allowed 1 egg a day, and lots of nuts. That sounds enough (or does it? probably yes, as soon as I add enough greens).

Portions depend on the person, & you need trial & error to figure it out.  I find I need more than the chart says, but not a huge steak at every meal like some need.
I could easily eat a # in a day when available, but occasionally it is good to have a meatless day. When I say meat, I also mean poultry & fish. Right now, red meat is more available, & since my husband is an AB, I don't encourage too much chicken in the house.
I'm looking forward to the turkey at Thanksgiving & I eat most of it!! Yum!!
