I've been following the BTD since Jan '07. I went "all out" for it, emptied my cupboards and fridge/freezer of everything except compliant foods. I lost 16lbs and I wasn't overweight. At home I'm as close to 100% compliant as possible, so that I have some credit in my "not-embarrassing-my-friends" account when I'm eating out.

I've noticed that I can get away with potatoes every once in a while with no noticeable effects. But 1 slice of pizza and I put on 4lbs overnight and it takes a week to come off again ::) . My doctor laughed and said I was a typical O ;D

So when I got the LR4YT book I was expecting to identify completely, but I was surprised. Apparently Os are supposed to be prone to anger problems, and need vigorous exercise. But that's SO not me. I'm far more a long walks person than a tennis and squash person, and it takes an awful lot to make me angry. Indignant or frustrated maybe, but I walk away and simmer rather than shouting and losing control.

Can anyone tell me - am I doing myself harm by walking miles rather than pounding them out on the courts? Or am I already balanced enough to get away with it? Any advice or input would be much appreciated!

A lot of that could be social conditioning, too.  You were probably brought up to feel that 'shouting and losing control' are inapropriate responses - especially in a woman.  That doesn't mean that you don't get angry - it just means that you have learned to control your reaction.  

As Lola says - whatever works for you and if walking does it that's great  :)

Haha! Yup, that's probably me too! But I'm pretty laid back as a rule. I might have an indignant moment over something like someone cold-calling during my tea then hanging up on me, but really bad things tend to depress me rather than make me angry.

I guess I was just a bit surprised that I didn't fit the O personality or exercise picture as well as I fit the food picture. And worried at the thought of having to take up tennis to be a "proper Blood Typer"!

I also prefer long walks (and long-distance 'slow' cycling) to tennis, squash and other high-energy activities. I tried tennis, but could never get into it - too fast for me.

This I can attest to.  Before I got onto BTD my mood swings were really bad.  I could turn from one mood to another within seconds.  You know...0-to b*tch in 1.2 seconds which is not really my character.  Although my girls and hubby would beg to differ...especially when it comes to BTD eating. ;)  Since I have been on this way of eating for six years my moods have really mellowed out. Especially after finding out my secretor status which really got things under control.  I can't remember the last time I have flown off the handle and that really makes me happy.  Thanks Dr. D. for the happy 'pill' you've given us. I love really tough exercise -- explosive, weight-bearing kind of stuff.  I enjoyed tennis, soccer, karate, bicycling, volleyball when I had the time for such things.  I'd've played hockey if I could skate.  I was bored senseless playing baseball.

I was prone to explosive bursts of anger up until several years ago.

The one thing I couldn't understand about LR4YT is that it said I'm supposed to be an outgoing leader.  That's just not me.  But I remember far back when I was a boy being very outgoing and bossing people around.  I posted in another thread that maybe my eating habits changed me.  I avoided meat and vegetables and craved noodles.  Then as I young adult I decided to become a vegetarian.  Now that I'm eating proper foods, I think I might be trending toward extroversion.  But it's too soon to tell.

walking and yoga for me. but I can see how a lack of cultivation of active sports in my youth and childhood has led to this. although, I am an artist, poet, meditator  type of gal.....one of those shamanistic type gatherers, (or herbal witchy type) I guess.

I thought my occasional explosions were due to being a Scorpio!
Guess being an O and a scorpio is worse. I don't like running and stuff like that. I would much prefer to do a nautilus workout at the gym. I want to try the elliptical thingy LOL.We get a membership Nov 1 so we shall see.
Me and an A at the gym not a beaurtiful thing.
Yes I am an extrovert but try to convince people I am really shy.

The elliptical trainer is great.  It works both the arms and legs, there's no jarring impact like with running, and you don't have to sit like with spinning.  It's my fav cardio workout.  I like the stair climber, too, but it doesn't work the arms.

OK, interesting. Anger -> exercise, right?

Yesterday I got my secretor results, and I'm a nonnie. So's my husband who's an A. So he rang me up and was telling me all about the "new" things he wanted for tea that he could now have. I went right through the database and wept at all the foods I now can't have!

So I stomped off to the shops in ... well a bit of a fury I suppose ... maybe I do get angry after all :B ... and I found after I'd powered up a hill at top speed (in 30 degrees of heat) until my leg muscles were hurting, I really did feel a little better. Better enough to concentrate my mind on buying food rather than wandering around wallowing in self pity.

Maybe I was in denial. I am an O non-secretor through and through, and I may as well get used to it. ::)

YES!!!  This is how I feel doing the O exercise.  Once you get that burning feeling into your muscles things really are alot better. ;)

Actually cleaning the apartment from top to bottom usually has the same effect, but does anyone else find that cleaning windows makes you think the same thoughts as you were thinking last time you cleaned them?

I've just got back from shopping. We bought a bread-maker, some rye flour, molasses (blackstrap) and agave syrup. And had a steak meal on the way home. I feel great!

we bottle the aggression up inside, we are tought to be nice, happy and lovely... nobody wants to see aggressive

whenh i did the "part one" course at "the art of living" it was like 20 years of anger were trying to come up all at once... it felt...terrbile
actually, at the time it was too much for me to handle so i shall do the course again and practise the techniques every day

Yeah, like how I felt this morning.  Every night for the last week the baby has woken up every single hour because she's cutting 4 teeth at once.  I'm already so severly sleep deprived I can hardly stand up straight, then she won't stop crying long enough for me to cook a meal.  My adrenal glands are so exhausted that a cup of coffee, which my dear husband had the forethought to brew for me before I asked, didn't even faze me.  It took me one and a half hours to cook lunch today, what with stopping to nurse, clean up a little boy's "accident" on the bathroom floor, (which lead to scrubbing the potty while I was there, mopping the floor with washcloth that desperately needed a trip through the washer and wiping down the tile walls that I noticed were really dusty), read two stories to weepy children, clean up three spit-up puddles, kick a dead bee under the rug, put a stop to 1,697 inter-sibling arguments, nurse again.....and it took everybody a whole 10 minutes to wolf down the quinoa, fried okra, and as-yet-undiagnosed pink-eye-purple-hull peas (probably have the same diagnosis as black-eye peas, but since I don't know I'll feed them to the whole family).  I realized when I sat down to eat lunch and nurse (again---when will these teeth come in?!), I hadn't even had breakfast.  No wonder I was hungry.

I tried to break down and cry but couldn't.  I think it would have felt good.  All I could conjure up was one tear, which nobody even saw, so what good did it do?

Why am I posting?  I should go outside and stomp up a hill, dragging my children behind me in a little red wagon.  Or I could tell my children to be quiet (ha) while I do some deep breathing.  

"Come, children.  Put 'Alice in Wonderland' on pause and we'll go outside for a while."

Yeah, same here.  I went home last weekend, and my step-mom found a nice bread-maker for $12US at a yard sale, then naturally when I got home and checked my secretor test results, I was nonnie--that's figures, right?  But I sort of expected that--I've always been so over-sensitive and sickly--so having it verified wasn't such a shock to me as it seems to be for some people.

How did a INFP end up in electrical engineering???? (eek)  Mind-boggling.  Maybe you should revisit the personality profiles and see if that one is still true.  I used to think I was INFP, too, until I started getting healthy and my real personality became apparent!

Possibly, but I'm afraid that I clean windows so infrequently I have no chance of remembering exactly what my thoughts were the time before. :)

Ahh, you noticed that!  Well, when I was younger I was INTP and good in math and science, so I just set off in that direction, and the inertia has been hard to overcome.  Now I think I might be swinging over to ENFP, as I wrote in a previous post.  I wonder what it would've been like if I really did go to college in Oregon for Forestry like my guidance counselor suggested?  (And he didn't even know my blood type.)  I find that hiking through the hilly woods helps me burn off steam very well.  But I don't see a career change in my immediate future.

I've been told my body is a combination of an ectomorth  endomorph.  "Your mind will always be at war with your emotions," was what my master bodywork teacher told me.

Intelectually I know I need to exercise more, but my heart would rather be doing something more interesting, that engages my mind. Exercise never does that for me.

Yeah, I'm fairly observant--for an N!  I have a theory about this whole personality thing.  Supposedly your personality never changes throughout your life, but different experiences can accentuate and strengthen previously weaker aspects of personality.  For me, and long struggle with depression made me more in tune with my feelings, and brought out my idealistic side more, hence the T/F mix-up, and being depressed naturally makes you more introverted, hence the I/E mix-up.  Having a strong religious and moral background also helped me develop my idealistic side.  So I think all in all, because of all the trouble I've been through, I've turned out to be quite well-rounded, but with the depression and other illnesses gone, my ENTP traits are coming through loud and clear!

::) drive 55 infp is the negative side when ENTP/J goes to the wrong side called desintegrative way ::) ;)....so you should go to ESTP/J, named the number 7 in Don Richard Riso's enneagram ;) 8)

an infp can be also technologial when he/she has merely the three part in her psychogram than the four-part ;) :D.....
btw.... mostly all 3ers are very sensual to technologies :D ;D .....

I agree with you, Drive 55.  I haven't taken the test to see what I am, but on the choleric/sanguine/melancholy/phlegmatic scale, I used to be a phleg/mel.  No longer.  After stress, depression, removing myself from my former life...hm.  What am I?  I feel like a sanguine melancholy if there is such a thing.  My friends see me as such now.  Where can I take the test?

My experience, I agree there's nothing intellectual about exercise, nothing emotional, no joy, no instant reward. It's void of feeling, of passion. The only thing present is will power. (Will power? Moi?!!) I call it a first chakra thing, even below the first. It touches some well hidden fears and complexes I so carefully strive to hide from myself. Here I must repeat to myself Lola's signature: "The hardest you are on yourself, the easeier life will be on you!" After exercising I come triumphant on the other side, as if I have made it walking through a scary tunnel. Every morning. And upright, too: the work on the elliptical is excellent for posture, as long as I keep my arms down. :D

Perhaps if you're exercising indoors on a treadmill, then your exercise will be devoid of emotion and passion.  Why not try kick boxing or dance?

Well, please let me tell you I am not exactly complaining, but rather trying to come to terms with exercising, to which I am sure there is no replacement. Like there's no replacement to walking in open air, listening to the birds and sensing Nature. Beyond that yes, I am a born dancer, I believe most of us are. There's a bit of a problem here, since due to a severe complicated fracture in my left distal tibia + fibula which occured 7 years ago (O vegetarians beware!) and left me a little impaired, I cannot jump to my liking!  This Summer I became acquaited with an expressive movement method named 'Rio Abierto' (open river?) and liked it very much.

I'm very new to this.It sounds like perfect sense so I'm willing to try.As for anger issues,I've got them in spades and a really bad case of hateful on top of that.

It's the elliptical I use. I hate the treadmill, treading on a moving gum sheet. Some say the elliptical is better for your knees. If I am desparate I can always stick in my earphones and enjoy TV channels. (nerd) (woot)

This 'trick' is I think the best advice I've ever got regarding posture, and it's been working more than fine for me. It has a reflex in the face: it automatically creates a smile, and immediately ignites a good mood!

I'm really enjoying lurking on this O thread!  As a B nonnie with a B nonnie daughter, I can relate in my own way, since we are sort of O-like.

With sufficient exercise, our lives are so well-balanced.  And as a B, we also need the variety of changing what we do.  I watch my daughter practicing the African dance moves that she is learning in class, and it's natural to smile, very big!  ;D

We have a stationary bike set up on wind-driven trainers in our livingroom, and this makes us sweat beautifully.  On the other end of the livingroom is the Rebounder, which is always a joy to bounce on.  There is a space between the sofa and the computer for floor exercises:  pilates, yoga and hand weight work.  We hike when the weather is decent, and walk in the neighborhood when we can.  All in all, it enables the body to hold onto the positive emotions.   :K)   8)

Hey Squirrel and all!
I was looking for something in the old threads and found this particular message. You know what struck me the most? That all those who agreed with Squirrel are Gatherers...and the GT2's generally are not into strenous exercises. There we were wondering about it in  Oct 07...and now we know the answer thro GTD!

I think walking is fine. Some people have good reasons for not doing strenuous exercise. Walking is very good exercise.

I used to go jogging/walking a few times a week and I used to love it. I only jogged 1/2 a mile or so but it was enough to give me the euphoric feeling that joggers love. I seem to have developed a Magnesium and other nutrient deficiency that caused me to stop jogging. I didn't feel I had the pep, and sometimes I have totally depleted my Magnesium from jogging, which took days to recover from. I think BTD and Mg supps with B6 (P5P) has a great chance of reversing this. I'd love to go jogging a few days a week again some day.

I might be able to get away with jogging maybe one day a week or something like that, at this time.

Strenuous exercise is known to deplete magnesium, so anyone like me with borderline Mg deficiency needs to be careful not to overdo it. Many things deplete Mg. We need something like BTD to assist us with Mg repletion.
