Good Morning Everyone!

I heard about the BTD almost ten years ago, did it for a while and felt much better, but fell off due to chaotic lifestyle changes that made doing it impossible at the time. Recently it came back to me in the form of a friend who has been on it for two years and has encouraged me to come back due to recent health problems. I have high blood pressure at 29 years old, am morbidly obese, have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, and a long family history of cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. As before, I already feel better. I have been a type O negative believer for a very long time, and am VERY happy to be back on the type O diet with no plans to leave soon.

I am 150 pounds overweight and am a little desperate to get the weight off and never look back. When I do research online about BTD and weight loss...well you can imagine the mish-mosh of misinformation I found there.

Has anyone lost 100 pounds or more on this diet and are willing to share their experiences? How did you adapt your diet to make your weight loss possible? Is there any hope out there for me?

Hi, and welcome back!

I haven't lost that much at once, but I really yo-yo with pregnancies, so if you add it all up...I haven't lost my last pregnancy weight yet, so I have 35 pounds to go (again) but I know I can do it.  Before I found BTD, I couldn't manage to lose a pound, no matter how much I cut calories, so I'm very thankful to have the power now.  

I often lose weight just by avoiding the avoids, but it really comes off when I eat very little grains, no milk, and low sugar.  Follow the portion recommendations, and focus on beneficials, low-carb is great for Os too.

I find it easier to be compliant when I just focus on how I feel today and this week, rather than focusing on weight.  I never weigh in more than once a week, as often I drop inches when I don't drop weight, and vice versa, so the weight measurement is too fickle for me.  I find a healthy rate of weight loss is about 1 1/4 pounds a week on average, it doesn't sound like much, but it adds up over time.  It comes off a little faster the further I am from my goal.

Definitely getting your secretor status is a good idea, that helps in every way.  The neutral dairy for O secretors was sabotaging me as a non-secretor, now I use avocados instead.

Don't forget to take all your measurements, blood lipids, etc. and some before pictures...things are gonna change before you know it!

Yes there is a mish mosh of opinions and info.  It seems that the majority are eager to find a "new" diet, but few are ready or willing to accept the level of responsibility that the BTD offers us.  It takes a high degree of maturity to realize that we are accountable to our bodies.

I agree with Melissa about getting your secretor status tested.  It will make all the difference in the world when it comes to really seeing results from this lifestyle.  Many of us have found this to be true.  

It will also be very helpful for you to get a copy of LY4YT and follow the lifestyle recommendations by Dr. D.  Especially take note of the Red Flag foods for your blood type.  These are to be avoided like the plague!  

I don't know if anyone on the Forum has lost the amount of weight that you are aiming for, but I have heard many members speak of high levels of weight loss.  I have lost only 20 pounds, but this program is the only thing that ever allowed me to take it off and keep it off.  Most importantly, this program Saves Lives!

Dr. D. has said that this is not a weight loss plan, as much as a weight normalizing plan.  It is also and most importantly, a program that heals the body, helps to prevent disease and deterioration, and builds wellness on all levels.  

In LR4TY, there are portion and frequency suggestions that will also help you along your way.  And if you hang out with us here on the Forum, you will get a lot of friendly support.

It's a very hard thing to be overweight.  Kudos to you for wanting to do something about it!  Perhaps there aren't people who have lost that much weight because nobody with that much to loose has tried this diet or stuck with it even if they have tried it.  I know some pretty big people and it seems that they have all tried many different diets for a while, then they give up because it's too much trouble or they miss their favorite foods.  I hope we can encourage you to stick with it.  Maybe you'll be the first to lost 150 lbs on this diet!  You can encourage so many other people!

sounds lie you may have a "thrifty gene" which makes you hold on to calories. I know of a B woman in Ontario Canada who lost over 150 pounds on the diet and all she did was follow the diet 100% with daily 40 minutes of walking as fast as she could with two 2.5lb weights in each hand. After 12 months she had all her excess skin removed via surgery from the fat she lost

a lectin free diet will help clear your insulin receptors.....

I am new to BTD .. but.

I used to weight 161 kilo and I went to a weight loss / wellness clinic here in Australia.  This clinic was called SureSlim.  They took a blood test and you had to weight for the results and they then tailored an eating plan to suit you.  This was their spell anyway.  I now realise they were using BTD guidlines but they never explained that.

While using their plan I lost 30 kilo in about 3 or 4 months.

Since I stopped it I have struggled to lose weight but instead remained about the same as I was when I stopped .. this has been over about 3 years.

It wasn't until I started to change my eating to the BTD way that I realised how identical the 2 eating plans were.  I am hoping I will lose weight again and I have to admit to losing about 4 kilo since starting with BTD.

Not sure if this answers your question but weight loss is still a matter of calories in / calories out.

Your welcome .. they also tell you not to share your eating plan and I always though it was because they just wanted everyone to pay the $800 it cost to join ... now I can see what the real reason was.

$AUD800.00 :o sheesh bloody outrageous considering that for the cost of a blood test we get the priceless benefit of the BTD and the BTD community.
(For any Americans reading this thread that's almost $US800.00 at the current exchange rate.)

Hi    I have lost 103 3/4 lbs on BTD  I lost 50+ maintained for six months than lost the next 53 3/4 and still going down.  

I cleared my cupboard and frig of all avoids and eventually ended up eating I would say 90-100% 95% of the time.

I went from a wheel chair to a walker to a cane to walking on my own.

I went from 3 liters of oxygen 24/7 to oxygen only at night, and a week ago was tested and now I'm off of oxygen, and with more weight lost soon to be off of sleep apnea machine(bi-bap)

I am dealing with COPD-they say it is incurable- but I feel if it isn't gone it's as close to being gone as it will be.  I feel the cayenne pepper was a big help here I eat 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon daily with 40,000Heat Units (HFS) they also have 80,000. I was on insulin before each meal.  Now I'm on two pills a day and glucose is between 70 & 110.

I still want to lose 70-100 more.

I have a friend who had lost 120 pounds. This I knew. But this last week, we got to sit down and talk a while about exactly how she did it. She eliminated foods from her diet that bothered her. After much discussion, we realized that she, an AB, had been following the AB diet without realizing it, almost to the letter! Just by listening to her body. See? It works even among those who don't know what they are doing, just that they need to stop eating certain foods because they bother them.

I need to lose 150 pounds and started getting serious with another plan.  After starting I got involved with a trainer that had me follow BTD while following the basic tenets of the other program.  Life has been grand ever since.

Now I am not losing 50 pounds a week or month, simply a consistent 2 pounds a week.  That is a healthy weight loss.

Don't be fooled by fad diets.  At the very worst BTD has you eating healthy whole foods.  At the very best it helps you avoid foods that put stress on your body.  If you feel great eating the BTD way then why would you change?

We've had quite a few case studies of this sort in the clinic. Larry Nesbit has a group down in Tennessee that has literally lost cumulative weight in the tons.

You just have to stick with it and give your body time. Mekan is  on the right path.

Oh, geminisue, I'm so happy for you!!! Last I knew, you had gone from oxygen 24/7 to just at night, with other improvements. Oh, I'm so thrilled for you. Thanks for the inspiration to Do It Up Right!(woot)LOL
