BTD Forums / Nonnie Clubhouse / Question for O-Nonnies
Posted by: 855 (Guest), Tuesday, October 23, 2007, 5:51am
I asked this question in another thread but then decided it may get lost in there.
I would like to know what effect apples have on Type O Nons
Thanks in advance

I don't remember...it has been too long since I've had one. :'( I used to love eating them with big Snyder's sourdough pretzels.

Well I don't know if I am a non or not.
But apples are okay for secretors and avoid for nons.
I eat an apple every day at lunchtime.
I'm only been following BTD for about a week but today after I'd eaten lunch I got felt so bad. My stomach churned and I made several trips to the bathroom.
Just made me wonder and hence the question.
Probably way to much info though .. lol

Apples dont bother me. I might keep on eating them on occasion even though they are an avoid. They dont upset my stomach or make me ache.

I think I get a stuffy nose after I eat apples. I love apples, though and miss them.

Apples tear right through me like a rusty Ferrari.

Ron -like the prairie dog!
Tillarna - I love apples, particularly Macintosh in the autumn here (now), but since I found out I was a nonnie, I cut way back and only have one occasionally. Haven't pinpointed any troubles to blame on them, yet, as I have been able to do with other foods. :P
Just remembered - I stopped drinking apple juice years ago, 'cause it would give me rip-roaring stomach pains. I was able to drink small amounts of apple cider without much trouble, key being small amounts.

Thank you all for your input. I have decided it wasn't the apple that made me feel badly. Haven't tested the other alternative yet though. I had Cherry Jam on my sandwich that day which I haven't eaten since. Might try it over the weekend and see what happens.
Thanks again

What type of sweetner is in the jam? What kind of bread did you use? Homemade or store bought. What are the ingredients?

I know the bread if fine .. it is a wheat free one and I've been eating it for a week now (I'm new to this)
Cherry Jam was store bought and not one I usually buy. I suspect it is to blame. But I need to prove it to myself the hard way. I must be stupid .. lol

You should be fine with apples if you are a secretor (as your avatar states).

Yes but I only found that out after I'd asked the question.

I personally think a whole apple now and again is a nice thing, but beware of the delicious, nutritious, yet not-so-nonnie-friendly form of apple consumption known as "cider". Boy howdy! I'm with Osuzanna: having lived in Vermont for several years I can tell you, I LOVE apple cider but it doesn't love me. A little dab'll do ya, O nons!!! I have the same reaction as Osuzanna: tum-tum upset. And I have a pretty easygoing tum as a rule. But cider and also apple juice? Fuggedaboutit. A whole apple is better, although still an avoid. But it is a nice thing, loaded with fiber and pectin and beautiful autumny taste. I'm a fan, but consider our friend Socrates: everything in moderation. When it comes to our avoid friend, the apple, even moderation may be too much *lol*. Make it a once in a while, seasonal treat. And if you are going to partake of any hot-spiced cider or cold, gorgeous pressed cider or any type of cider, I'm telling you, take a small shot-glass sized taste only. You'll thank me later!
