Join the Recipe Database Team

Dr. D has put in a significant effort to improve the Recipe Database functionality, including adding almost all of the features that had been previously requested by various members. See the Snazzy New Recipe Database thread.

Now it is our turn to put in an effort to improve the data in the Recipe Database.

Here are the tasks that we need help with:


Would you be willing to help with any of the above tasks?  "Many hands make for light work". Besides working on the recipes will give you a chance to find some good recipes or ideas you can use. Time for a few others to jump in and join the team!

I would be interested Don.  I tried the link for the database team Q and A and it just took me back to the forum home page.  I also tried adding some recipes...but no discernable way to save your work.  next time i will type them first in a word processing program so i at least will have them to cut and paste later.

you should start by reading the guidelines
I'll be glad to help you get started just post your questions and someone will help you out. It's a lot of fun and a good learning experience too.

Don,

I found your recipe for spanish rice, and thought I could add my own version which uses spinach, fetta, onions, lemon and garlic.

But all the links you have posted here either just go back to the main board or they say there is a systems admin error or something.

I'm more than happy to help out as I have me (an A) and the lesser half (an O) and have had to adapt many recipes to suit.

I'm sending away for our secretor tests this week so once I have those missing pieces of the puzzle, it should prove all the more interesting!  :o

Yes, unfortunately the forum software upgrade messed up all the thread links in posts. I have fixed many of the links in various posts as I find them, but there are still many that need to be fixed.

I fixed all the broken links in this thread.

Please add your variation of the recipe if it turns out good. Certainly finding recipes and adding them is one way to help.

Hi there,
I did attempt to add a recipe in the base 4 section under add a recipe. Dont know what happened but when I typed it out, there was no add recipe button. So if anyone would like a great recipe for sweet potato salad just message me. :)

The Add button is at the bottom of the Add Recipe page.

Did you Preview the recipe? If so, you have to go back to the Add Recipe page to add the recipe.

Are you still looking for people to scan through old threads and blogs for recipes to add to the database?  I'd be willing to give that a go, if so.....

With reference to violet's problem above, I don't know what browser she was using, but I don't get the add recipe button at the bottom of the page if I use Mozilla, which is my normal browser.  I have to go in via Internet Explorer before it appears.

I use the latest version of Mozilla Firefox and don't have any problems with it and the recipe database programs.

hmm, mine is not the latest version, so maybe that's why.  Can't be bothered to upgrade it when it's working for everything else, never know, I might wind up worse off!  I'll stick with using IE to add recipes.

I've never had trouble with an upgrade of Firefox, either in Windows or Linux!

I believe the recipe edit team has done the work......
what you can do to help, is give us a heads up whenever you find a recipe which needs editing.
either post the link to the recipe, or write down the full name of the recipe, for easy access.

Goodness me - over 1000 recipes! We should have a party to celebrate! I think Ribbit gets the prize for the 1000th recipe posted. Congrats!

Made these last night for my O mom's bday, she isn't on the diet strict yet, but she is working on cutting gluten first, and avoiding easy avoids.  I'm an A and looooooved these!

Dont see a calorie breakdown on the recipes, but I put the ingredients into a calorie counter site and the whole pan was about 1200, so if you get 16 small squares, only 75 calories each!

I'm so not a good pastry chef, I'm awesome at cooking meals, because then a 'dash of this, a little of this' works fine. Baking is trickier because of measurements and the science.  Like, I really have no idea what baking powder or soda does for a recipe!  I guess years of baking people get experienced at that.

I'd think flax meal would work instead of the eggs, the eggs are really binders, it only rose a little bit when I baked it.

Baking powder or soda helps it rise.  Baking powder is usually baking soda plus something acid (cream of tartar is what I use) to make the chemical reaction needed to create fluff.  Baking soda plus vinegar, lemon juice, molasses or whatever....works just as well.  Remember if you're going to use baking soda plus something, add it at the very last so you can pour the batter into your pan as it's fluffing up.  Otherwise, when you stir it, it may lose its fluff before you get it into the pan.  It's not so tricky if you can use eggs.  But if you're baking gluten-free without eggs you have to work fast and make your fluff happen more in your baking pan than in your stirring bowl.  I hope that makes sense.

Did you ever make volcanoes in elementary school and the "lava" was baking soda and vinegar?  That's what happens, small scale, when you bake.  Poof!  Bread!

What a cool idea!  I've baked butternut squash before in chunks, but it never occurred to me to make them in french fry shapes and actually pretend they were sweet potatoes.  Yum!

I used to eat baked sweet potato fries daily, they were my number one carb dish. So, I needed a subsitute fix fast, lol! :)

I really miss sweet potatoes.  We grew them when I was little and I have fond childhood memories of them.  They're not a nightshade like regular potatoes and I can eat them without a negative reaction.....but going from the A nonsecretor diet to the Warrior diet, I had to give them up, sadly.  Thank so much for the idea.

I just made the pumpkin pancakes, does anyone know what size can of pumpkin, I used a 15 oz can and the pancakes are thick.  I also added a 1 tsp of pumpkin spice....not to back
